A big theme that's brought up near the end of the Son of Ogre arc of Baki the Grappler is the power of imagination and the willpower to enforce it. The character in question, Katsumi Orochi, is using that theme to force his skeleton to act as if it's "made up of a million tiny joints" so that he can throw out his limbs like whips so that they break the sound barrier. Baki is filled a bunch of psuedo-Science like that which makes it a very fun read, but the anatomy is very offputing to some people.

Baki's art style is something that you come to accept as you read it, so it's understandable if you don't really like it after just a few chapters. A lot of the anatomy in Baki is actually pretty decent, its just that the way the mangaka presents it doesn't make it very flattering. Katsumi even comments on it on the previous page that no matter how hard he tried to believe, his body just weren't meant to move the way he was making it, which leads to pic related, which leads to him losing his right arm and ruining his left hand and both feet.

God the art is so hideous I'm reading it right now and still can't really appreciate it, it's probably top 3 of the ugliest things I've seen in terms of art. Which makes the premise of the show about Kitano even more unbelievable because everyone looks fucking ugly, not just Kitano.

Also, just got over the photography-girl arc, which was pretty damn boring, it had no comedy at all which is a strong point of the manga so hope it picks up.

You have to get past the look though. Once you do it's hilarious. I think the earlier, rougher art, suited the story better. Where it was all hugely shaded and looked horrible. The later, cleaner, white look was boring imo.
