I am (eventually) gonna try and do the same thing too. I always recommend getting almost everytype of social media there is. But the basic ones that are for sure needed are DeviantArt, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter.
Be active on your social media and one of the more important things is have a personality. If you want to make a name for yourself, show your face sometimes and have a fun personality that people want to watch and stay updated with. Having this kinda personality makes people who aren't really into 3D art interested in you because you're fun. Your craft doesn't have to be absolutely incredible ( at least good) so long as you have an awesome personality, even if it's not your true personality.

I work at an internet company and customers SO OFTEN get their shit shrekt because they didn't keep their wordpress installation up to date or they were using plugins or themes that were out of date or no longer in active development.

ALWAYS keep ANYTHING that uses php up to date, or you'll get your shit hacked and your website will be sending out chinese spam in 30 seconds.

Artstation is good as other artists and employers get too see your assets publicly. However building up multiple websites/accounts for your art is also a good thing too. I would suggest Artstation though, very nice.
