THIS. FUCKING. MOVIE.

No spoilers but just watch it right now if you haven't and you like Junji Ito.
I just watched this for the first time and holy shit, I had lost faith in horror movies but this has completely restored it. It's the first horror movie I've genuinely liked since Lake Mungo or V/H/S 1, it's just so good.
The innovative idea, the music is 10/10 a perfect mixture of dark 80's drive-esque music mixed with harsh noise, the aesthethic of a world with 60's technology but some very advanced devices (the ebook of the girl) and where people act like it was the early 2000's, I don't think I've seen that before in any movie. And the cinematography is great, amazing shots and use of atmosphere.

My only complaint is the last pool scene, it's retarded, but other than that loved it, what is the general consensus here?
>>
I'll have to cHeck it out.

SPOILER

The house scene where she sees the hooker in the kitchen and then runs upstairs and the demon appears behind her sister as a tall as fuck guy, that moment was tense as fuck, that's how you do a proper scare, not abusing jumpscares at all.

It was an alright movie, not that fucking good like you guys are making it seem to be.

It was a decent movie.

Nothing to freak out over. The vast majority of the movie was fucking boring.

They show almost every tense moment in the previews, or you get used to it after the 2nd scare and rhey get redundant.

By the end of the movie I was underwhelmed and wishing they showed the leads tits at some point. (They never do.)

It's a shining example of how far some people are up their own asses, liking this movie basically means you're 1) a dumbass, or 2) so pretentious that you have read yourself stupid, as Schopenhauer would say. And this is coming from a guy who likes Blabberdunk.

It Follows is cliche central, but since the cliches are all "references" this is actually a "feature" like how Windows is full of "features".

>protagonist: le middle class white girl #23429347234 from le middle class white family #2309420342098, that's literally her entire "personality" like every other movie with this shitty setup
>spends 45 minutes establishing this character, and by establishing I mean showing what movies say middle class life in US suburbs is like (why anybody gives a fuck at this point is beyond me)
>retarded softcore porn bullshit everywhere, from the crass naked boogiemen to the cringe tier dawson's creek sex scenes
>literally jump scares in 2015 (Checkin My Pubes In Bathroom scene when ball hits window; abandoned house when girl B knocks a piece of the wall out of the closet)
>le epic horror references everywhere, bazinga!

So to recap, this is a horror movie about a white teenage girl who has spooky monsters chase her that does nothing original, has >jump scares, and tries to be the 80s. And no, I'm not being some SJW about the white thing, I'm mentioning it because that's the corny standard movies tend to apply to white people. This movie is Transformers level vapid, it's bland to the point of coming full circle and actually being offensive, and I really can't even understand how people are jacking off over this shit so hard. Maybe it's a form of Gaymer Gurl Syndrome where everybody wants to be cool by liking the movie that Horror Buffs™ say is cool.
>>

No, it would be shitty if it had any cliche, from Tray Tray's chicken barbecue reunion to Malik's Ramadan post-dusk feast, the point was it's fucking boring shit you've seen a million times if you've watched horror movies.

I thought it was really good. Well shot. Tense. Fairly well acted with pretty sympathetic leads. As for the people mentioning plot holes and shit, the only one I can think of and agree with is the naked dude standing on the roof. That's the only scene in the whole movie that actually violates the rules (that were explained by an unreliable source, mind you.)
>>
The only thing I didn't like about it was that all the characters were a bunch of fucking hipsters.

I enjoyed the movie, even if the pace was a bit slow. I thought it built the tension well.
It did not become a favorite, but I found it nice enough to recommend it.

I'd be paranoid as fuck if that happened to me. How do they even sleep? How can the guy go to the cinema with the girl? Sounds like the perfect place to get killed. And how does the chain get so long? If you fuck a hooker you die, it will eventually get back to you, if you don't it will also eventually find you, and who started the chain? What if he's dead now? Does the semen demon just walk around forever?

But yeah the night I saw it I couldn't sleep, my room is small and with only one door so I'd be completely fucked.

Btw what girl was your waifu out of the 3 sisters? Reminder if you pick the main character you also get demon.
>>
It's funny because it actually sucks really bad
>>
>>16940130
it's the opposite of jump scares--sit bores. still terrible, just in a different direction than usual.

plus it was obvious fetish material for the dp and/or director, since 85% of the movie was shiots of girls' bare feet, including pissing on their own feet.

Amazingly good movie that has restored my faith in the horror genre. I have watched it a few times now. As with any artwork, many who see it will respond with a dull hostility and will label it pretentious (because they cannot understand it) and overrated (because they resent those intelligent enough to appreciate it). These will also tend to be the most vocal critics. Such is life. Lake Mungo is also an excellent film.
>>
>>16940722
None of those are plotholes you stupid fuck.

>what if the cursed person is in a gangbang?
Then it goes like this Whoever fucked her first > Whoever he puts his dick in next > Whoever fucks that person > and so on

>what if the cursed person flies across the ocean and bangs someone?
Then they probably have quite a bit of safe time before it gets back to them.

>what exactly transfers the curse? touching genitals? Cumming?
Probably just intercourse. It doesn't really matter and isn't exactly relevant to the plot.

>Why the fuck is all the technology form the 80s except the one chick clam shaped tablet PC?
Because the film is set up to be kind of retro but also modern, in a weird "alternate timeline" kind of way. So it is a familiar setting, but not entirely familiar. Again, not a plot hole because it is not relevant or related to the plot.

>why would they even show the ghost? it would be so much more exciting not knowing if its true or if the protagonist is just batshit insane but nope, they blow their load to get cheap spoops.
Why not? You preferring them to not show the ghost is NOT a plothole.
>>
>>16941207
It's based on a nightmare the director had, so he made it ambiguous as to what year it takes place in on purpose.

"There are production design elements from the ’50s on up to modern day. A lot of it is from the ’70s and ’80s. That e-reader cell phone—or “shell phone”—you’re talking about is not a real device. It’s a ’60s shell compact that we turned into a cell phone e-reader. So I wanted modern things, but if you show a specific smartphone now, it dates it. It’s too real for the movie. It would bother me anyway. So we made one up. And all of that is really just to create the effect of a dream—to place it outside of time, and to make people wonder about where they are. Those are things that I think happen to us when we have a dream."
>>
>>16941587
He took the chance because he couldn't just go "Hey lets fuck" and had to build up to it.
Turns out he probably could have just said hey lets fuck though.

I suppose the chain gets long once someone works it out and tells the next person. Then it's your top priority to pass it on and let them know they need to pass it on as well.

If the person at the end of the chain is dead it just goes back to the next person in line. Who knows what happens after that though.

1) orgies dont work that way, you dont take turns and stand around waiting
2)
>probably

3)Alternate Timeline... lol right. because anything in the game would hint at it not being in a normal timeline

4) Not showing the ghost would give it a deeper, psychological thriller vibe but i guess if you thought this movie was good, you cant handle having to figure stuff out on your own. Gotta appeal to the masses.
>>
>>16943561
Your dick goes in a fraction of a second before the other guys and now you have the curse. Then it goes to the next person your dick goes in, and from there it goes to the next person etc.
It's not that hard to follow.

Alternate timeline is the wrong way to explain it, but this post here does it better with the directors own words >>16942348

Again, none of those are plotholes.

Fun facts that /x/ may not have thought about, or known (and also a question):

-The naked woman that the girl sees just after she's been given the curse, is played by the mother of the (Chad) who passes the curse to her. This can be a bit confusing to work out, because this male character himself goes by a few different names as part of the story. But once they determine his real name and track him down, the mother character answers the door - a close watch with this knowledge explains why the lead character is disturbed when the mother answers the door - she's seen this person before. Finally, the actors are credited based upon first appearance, and keeping the above Chad character's name in mind plus timing leads to my conclusion in this paragraph (this actually takes a bit of 'leg work' to pin down, since we never get a really good, close look at the above nude woman).

-The poem that the teacher recites is also briefly quoted by the Dennis Hopper character in the much earlier war movie Apocalypse Now, when describing Marlon Brando's greatness.

- The house at the beginning of the film has a street number of 1492. Now here's my question: I think it's this same girl who emerges from the side of the beach house later in the film (it's the only thing that makes sense), but I never quite got a good enough look at her to be one hundred percent on this.

I like the above touch points to other areas of culture; both the Heart of Darkness journey up the river and Columbus' journey across the Atlantic were hazardous crossings of water, culminating in extreme violence (there's an obvious metaphor here that you can choose to accept as somewhat-intentional, or reject as reaching too far). Perhaps on a more literal level (apart from the STD allegory, which is the real point), the creature could be interpreted as a Grudge left over from some Colonial era, which itself is a deeply American trope in both The Shining and Poltergeist.
>>
>>16940722
>OH NO A MOVIE MADE ME THINK
>>
>>16943899

The mother of chad who answers the door is the naked woman we see first, and the girl who exits the beach house is the girl from the intro, don't know if that makes any sense.

The other things I didn't know about, interesting! But it's hard to believe the chain could've been perpetuated for 500 years, the thing is just too efficient at killing normalfags.

In comparison to everything else in the horror genre to come out in recent years, this is a pretty great movie, but when you put it up against staple horror movies from the past, it's just decent. I can appreciate the film's ambitions but (IMO) it ultimately doesn't achieve what it set out to do.

Great premise and cinematography let down by some really stupid scenes (the pool).

The idea that something is following you, that only you can see, and can be anyone around you is pretty terrifying. I wish they had done more with that element of the story and skipped the pool scene.

I did really like it though despite it's flaws.
>>
>>16946046
Hmm, I'm about to be 20...but okay. Let's go with what you said since your opinion is clearly fact.

You do realize people can enjoy any horror film, right? I'll agree with you that yes, the 70s produced some of the best horror films, but movies like the Babadook and It Follows are actually decent compared to the piles of shit horror these days. I'm a horror fanatic and rarely get scared now. Scariest movies for me have been the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Bake Street Hauntings, so this was a breath of fresh air.
