Sorry. Edgy doesn't make a movie better.
1. Blair Witch had better acting than Cannibal Holocaust.
2. Blair Witch had a better story than Cannibal Holocaust.
3. Blair Witch made you care for the characters. All the characters in Cannibal were douches, who cared if slutty Fay got gang banged and beheaded
4. Blair Witch was more realistic. Didn't rely on a cheesy score by Riz Ortolani.

Did you even watch Cannibal Holocaust?

You weren't supposed to root for the documentarians, obviously. They gang raped a native woman while filming it and laughing, attempted to profit off of the tribe, and presented themselves as somehow more sophisticated despite the nasty, gleeful turtle killing as soonest they arrived in the jungle. The tribe murdered the documentarians in defense. In case the viewer is somehow too dense to understand that they're meant to empathize with the "other," one of the actors breaks the fourth wall to demand "who are the REAL cannibals?"

Congratulations, you literally missed the entire point of the movie. But, by all means, keep trying to sound like a fourth degree black belt in film criticism.

I love Blair Witch Project, and all, but I SWEAR -- and to this day still believe it -- that you could see people walking in the distance in one of the shots while they were in the woods.

Alien Abductions: The Macpherson Tapes.

Seriously, go watch it. I think it's up on google video or something.

So, when the fuck are we going to have a movie night again? I remember us doing that 2 years or something and I've not seen one since.

I only vaguely remember the movie, it had a ton of black and white flashback scenes where a guy went nuts and kept murdering people close to him. After that the host kept putting on a random assortment of weird /x/ tutorial videos and documentaries. Ended up watching through to the morning, was really fun in the chat\thread.
>>

I'm pretty sure I remember something similar from a year or two ago.
I don't remember the site, but I remember that the lineup of youtube videos (some were movies, otherwise just generally spooky or disturbing videos) was under the video, and that it had a chat to the right that was sort of a mixture of chatango / a Twitch chat
Does that sound familiar?
I remember specifically watching Poultrygeist for keks
>>
>>16816351
The Borderlands was great. In my opinion, better than Blair Witch, although there were a couple legitimately ambiguously creepy scenes in bw that still get to me–the interviews with the tight-lipped yokels in the first half that seem real, like when you start asking the wrong people the wrong questions.
>>
>>16816635

Yeah, that's it! I don't recall Poultrygeist but that's definitely the layout it had. In any case, not really sure if we should just start one up some day or if threads need to be made ahead of time to schedule a time. I just wandered in last time.

People would struggle to name an objectively better scary movie even.

Y'all little kids don't understand because you probably were in diapers back then, but when The Blair Witch Project hit the theaters, people actually thought it might be real.

See, it wasn't as common as it is nowadays that a film would outright lie to it's audience when it said "This were real events". Most up to then were "based on actual events" which always leaves room for fiction.

Not to mention the entire fucking campaign around the movie. Shit, all the documentaries around it alone are creepy as fuck. The way everything is set up is geniously crafted to make you believe at least for a moment that it was real. Once you believe you are witnessing somebody's final days, even a badly recorded audio file can scare the shit out of you. That is what this movie did, and it was genius.

Not only that, it remains the most succesful movie ever made, cost-to-earnings wise. These motherfuckers didn't forget that less is always better in a horror movie. Absolutely NO jump scares on this film, even though found footage can exploit them like no other subgenre can. It's all psychological horror, it relies on you actually investing yourself in the story, paying attention to what these fuckers were saying and believing the story, thinking that it might have been real. It doesn't work at all for the modern fag that half watches a movie whilst browsing through his smartphone in the hopes of not being scared while watching a movie.

Anyways, it's worth noting that thanks to how succesful and good this movie is, it's copycats are now littering the entire horror flick scene, for years now. Unfortunately the bad rep these movies gather tend to affect the Blair Witch negatively.

Cannibal Holocaust is one of the legitimatly worst films I have ever seen.

First off it's extreamly awkwardly acted and edited. The gruesom scens are gross but they aren't scary. The killing of animals for no reason is disgusting and sad.

The cheesy main theme is terrible and the heavy handed "maybe we're the monsters" messages is dated and boring.

It's not just a bad film it's the worst film ever created.

This movie was masterfully crafted for sure. Its a shame that most modern "horror" just relies on spoopy jump scares and shit.
Modern horror is just "yeah these 5 kids went into this *inserted haunted bulding* and this is what follows" and then its just 1-2 hours of shitty atmosphere and jump scares. I miss when horror relied more on atmosphere and less on getting a natural reaction out of people.

Blair Witch is better, but pic related is severely fucking underrated. It had a neat plot, was pretty spooky, and it had one of the creepiest and coolest scenes in any horror film.

My only real criticism is that it would have been a lot better if it was less clear as to whether it was Alzheimers or demonic possession and you were trying to guess which it was until the climax.

>>
>>16824775

I always thought of it as a pretentious "look at us immersing ourselves in local culture" move, which is more or less what it plays as in the movie. A bunch of wealthy American kids patting themselves on the back for making a half assed attempt at living like the natives while on vacation.

But to come back to your point, it's hypocritical to complain about animal killing in the movie unless that complaint comes from a vegetarian who also abstains from consumer goods with animal byproducts (like glue). Yes, it's gross to look at, but those animals were eaten. Just because you didn't participate in killing the cow for your hamburger doesn't mean you're sitting high and mighty in judgment against those who kill their own food.

Not really. If you ever watched the movie you would know there are more to it than filming crew getting destroyed by cannibals.

Overall I like Blair Witch better though, because of the atmosphere. But the story is nowhere near to Cannibal Holocaust.

Sort of. Shyamalan said he made three cuts and made it into a movie. It does feel that way, there are parts of the movie that stick out a little more than the others. It's definitely supposed to be more comedic than scary, and it only starts to amp up around the end after they give the twist.

>>16825663
Hm. I wish that fucker would do a movie without a twist for once.

Are you joking? Please explain to me what even fucking happened in that movie. It made no sense and fucking Rapping BEANS from Evan Stevens was the final straw. Kill yourself.

Seriously fuck all of you, VHS was the worst fucking movie I had seen in years --- but it was better than the visit.
Fuck all of you.
How has Noroi only been mentioned twice? It's fucking terrifying but y'all too fucking retarded to read fucking subtitles and watch what happens at the same time.

>houses that October built
They could've done more, the idea was fucking awesome and most of the movie was great, but the ending was kind of rushed and I feel like they could've done more with the creepy mask girl

>>
>>16826366
yup thats it but there is actually like 3 of them. I remember one where they would look into the camera as they are walking by while the people were being levitated out of the house. I cant ever find that one it was the creepiest because the special effects were unheard of when that video was made and the acting was oscar winning performances.

Not sure if it was suggested yet, but As Above So Below was spookier than most suggestions above. Lost footage from the catacombs of Paris
>>
>>16826646
bullshit the mcfearson tapes are the spoopiest. specially because theres a conspiracy theory around all three tapes and why it was made 3 times.

>when The Blair Witch Project hit the theaters, people actually thought it might be real.
Same with Cannibal Holocaust, the director was arrested for obscenity and making a snuff film because it was rumored that some of the actors were really killed.
>>
>>16827501
But if you watch it today you can tell its obviously silly looking and fake.

The Blair Witch Project was also phenomenally acted.

>>

Apollo 18 was so godamn bad it hurt which is a shame because I wanted it to at least be passable.
>>
>>16827567
It kills me how everyone thinks that Blair witch was so well acted.
They didn't have to do anything but become nervous, scared, and be your average idiot person.
The only reason the acting is so good is because the director was very smart. They didn't allow the actors to know what was going to happen in the script, they let the actors improve quite a bit, they left them alone in the woods often and the actors were legitimately scared quite often. It wasn't that well acted, but very well directed/filmed
>>
I remember watching a "found footage" movie about a drug that you consume and make you witness some really creepy shit.
>>
>>16828318
>the acting isnt good because they were actually scared
what kind of logic is this
>>
>>16829840
A real portrayal of one's feelings is not acting. Tell me how many times you have acted today. The whole day?
>>
>>16829855
so do you want it to appear fake and laid out then?

I'm thinking of making one.

Western Montana is terrifying in the woods at night. Trouble is that the production team would have to set up a perimeter. There is real danger in going out in the woods at night here.
>>
>>16814255
It was great until the shitty ending.

was fun to watch once 4.5/10
