So I'm coming to a loss for documentaries to watch. I keep them on pretty much as background noise while studying. Trying to study now and I can't seem to find any ones I haven't watched or haven't gone full retard. Here's where I ask for you guys to point me in the direction of some awesome ones preferably about the occult, medical marvels, history, or death. No aliens or psychics please, they don't personally interest me. Also preferably in English as I'll be mostly listening to them.
As thanks I have the entirety of the Scary Stories Treasury by Alvin Schwartz with the original illustrations by Stephen Gammell. I'm sure a lot of you have some great childhood memories of these. It's been a while since I've been on /x/ so I'm not sure if someone has done this recently. These are all scans from my own book that has wear and tear as it was second hand so it's not perfect. Every page is scanned as if you were reading the book except for a few blank or pointless ones. Even the info section is scanned for further details about the origins of old legends the stories are based on.
I'll be posting these in the order they are in the book regardless. I feel weird after all the effort scanning them over a year ago and having never shared them. Hope you enjoy.
Yeah, the writing is a bit cringe worthy. It was written for elementary school children. It's the art that made these memorable. Unfortunately all recent printings of the book have new artwork that just does not have the same effect. I get why they made that choice but it still sucks.
fucked up there
Heading off to sleep now. I'll post more if this is still up tomorrow.
Blasphemy. Get the fuck off /x/ and never return.
If you haven't already, I am recommend looking up Alex Jones and all of his documentaries. I personally enjoyed his Bohemian Grove one, but all of them are rather interesting.
Back to post more. Going right on to post the More Scary Stories section. I do have the notes, bibliography and sources scanned that have some further details about the stories. If anyone wants those, just say something and I'll put them up. I'm going to skip some of the minor pages but none that have the artwork on them.
Yup. I think maybe a handful of stories came close to spooping me, even as a kid. It was the art that gave me fucking nightmares.
In fact, I can only vividly remember the one story that legit scared the piss out of me.
Baby spiders bursting out of a "rash" on your face.
When I was a kid, when I saw a picture that scared me, I refused to touch the page in the book. I remember turning the page and dropping it quickly many times reading these. Especially with the dead hooker looking lady. She takes up the whole damn page and you aren't expecting that as the first thing you see after a page turn.
I always wanted to know what the hell was up with this artist to draw the creepy as fuck pictures in the series of books. Did he really just look through some crime pictures, accidental deaths, personal experiences?
He's done the art for a few other children's books. It's mostly normal looking stuff. I wonder if he got fed up with drawing kids' stuff and when he had the chance to do something darker, just really went for it.
you are very welcome
Yep, sure did. Thanks for pointing that out. Gonna scan that one in. I got a new scanner since I did these and haven't worked it out yet so it may be a few minutes. The story is called "The Window"
Got it finally. New all in one thing is a fickle beast.
polite bump. I had the trilogy as a kid. I would do anything to have these books again (in their original form) but these screenshots are more than satisfying.
as for your request, I was never into documentaries, but the Faces of Death series was always a good watch for me, even if they were mostly faked.
You're welcome! Copies of the treasury compilation can still be found. I got mine a couple years ago from an Amazon seller. I don't think I spent more than $15 on it. It's got some minor damage and what looks like oil stains on the first few pages but I consider it a good investment for the memories.
That is glorious.
I read all these back when I was in elementary school, thanks for the nostalgia op. The one story that still creeps me out is when two guys make and abuse a scarecrow then it comes alive and skins one of them, that was some dark shit for a kids book
That's Harold. Coming up in the next few images.
This is my favorite one. I want this little bastard. He's worth the price of rabies.
It's a bit in the notes and sources section. I'll post them at the end but here's that page now.
Nice full page of the art here
Forgot this bit carried on to the next page
The notes and sources are a pretty good read. Probably gonna post the ones for first two books after this one but they don't have any art in them.
