Let's discuss something weird.

All of you probably know about Voyager, the space program which sent probes all around the solar system, then towards and into interstellar space. What you might not know is that Voyager 1's continued operation is completely anomalous.

First of all, it has lasted much, MUCH longer than expected. Though it was designed to last until 2025, many of its subsystems were supposed to shut down much, MUCH earlier. However, they somehow managed to remain operational.

The second anomaly concerns its speed; Voyager 1 is accelerating, and the cause is unknown.
>>
>>14882698
Wasn't it propelled by this super-weak system that was supposed to last a long ass time?

Or am I thinking of something else?
>>
>>14882698
>Voyager 1 is accelerating, and the cause is unknown.

Yeah, Where did you get that information?
>>
>>14882731
look out we got sci here!
oh shit!

>the door is over there retard
>>
>>14882720
it was propelled the gravity of the gas giants. and the solar wind from the sun. I don't get where op has the idea that it is speeding up. it has actually slowed down. because it is now out of reach of the solar winds of the sun
>>
What is VGER from Star Trek the Motion Picture?
>>
>cause is unknown
Actually it uses and ion propulsion system, so yeah.
>>
>>14882720
Voyager has an array of hydrazine RCS thrusters, but they are not used for propulsion, only reorientation. They still have enough fuel to keep the craft stable for a few more decades. After that, only electric gyroscopic methods of reorientation will remain.
>>
>>14882868
So this begs the question. What's the point of it even being there? What else will it encounter? We know there are no other planets around for Voyager to photograph.
>>
>>14882876
No, you're begging the question. It's toast, so we're sending it off in to space. There's no mystery to it, there's no covert operations, no illuminati rituals, no paranormal spooknicity. It's the easy thing to do and for some of us the thought of it drifting far after we're gone is a nice one.
>>
>>14882820
Voyager 1 definitely does NOT have an ion thruster.
>>
>>14882698
Actually, the Voyager acceleration anomaly's been explained. The heat distribution from the nuclear generators causes a slight imbalance of thermal emission. The this tiny imbalance in infrared photon emission causes an equally tiny net force. And that force turns out to be juuuust the right size to explain the difference in velocity.
>>
Inspirational.
>>
>>14882741
Why would it be slowing down in an environment where there is virtually no friction?
>>
>>14882885
lol what if it crashes into the alien capital and starts a intergalactic war
>>
>>14883167
Not exactly slowing down. more like no longer being propelled. because a lack of solar wind pushing against it
>>
>>14883173
Why would aliens start a war with aliens in another galaxy after being provoked by us?
>>
>>14882814
/thread
>>
>>14883281
no theyd start it wirh us it wouldnt be immediate but theyd know about aliens (us) and fear and resent aliens (us) and when we do meet itll be the first in the long line of what will come to be known as the Intergalactic Voyager of War.

and we will be known as Voyagers due to them finding a debris of the Voyager that says "Voyager".
>>
SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE
>>
>>14883167
There are still stray atoms in interstellar space.

Over time, something as small as Voyager will totally slow down.
>>
>>14883321
1. Any aliens with interstellar capabilities could stop a satellite that size from doing any actual damage

2. Any aliens with interstellar capabilities would have "evolved" beyond feelings like xenophobia

>>

little do they know its just their retardition showing.

theyre ironic because theyre unexpected, i have analyzed the bible and discovered the truth of jesus's hidden system of morals and i apply that to all of my i-paintings. i think those who happen to open their eyes and drop their sttempts at ridicule would see their mind and heart open to the undistorted message that the church hides.

I don't know what you're talking about backtracking, that was the first post I've made in this thread.

We don't know of any current planets with intelligent life. The likelihood of voyager crashing into one of those and not just crashing into a random dead rock is pretty low.

The rock that formed the Arizona crater was about as large as Voyager *when it landed*

Except I do, and I'm not even a Marine Biologist. Diving is just my hobby.

Why would I drag heavy equipment round with me when I can keep it at the marine biology shack?

Ok, back on topic, its not that hard to believe that voyager still works, the rover on mars still works, and it was only supposed to work for 6 months. Given the amount of pieces that have to work together, I would not be surprise if builders stayed conservative with some parts lifespans to garner support to beef up other parts.

Im placing my bet that the human race gets almost completely wiped out within 1000 years. It bounces back as usual and within 10000 years the new human civilization is capable of interstellar travel far beyond our current measure. They will find voyager still within our galaxy and consider it to be of alien origin, having no concept of NASA or the previous age of men. It will be hilarious.
