Well all things being equal, then sure - it's most probable that it's a hoax.
However there have been and continue to be tons of species that have been undiscovered, re-discovered, thought extinct in error, etc.
There are huge patches of forest in the PNW US/Canada that are relatively untouched still, and even tho it's obviously incredibly unlikely, some super sneaky unknown ape isn't 100% impossible.

I'm not saying it's actually a thing, but I am saying there is enough reasonable doubt to make shitposting about it kind of senseless.
As far as hoaxes and associated nonsense, yeah, it's safe to assume that most if not all bigfoot searchers/researchers are full of it. But it's kind of cool to keep an open mind just in case, even if it proves to be foolish optimism.

Your second question is the answer. It's easier to spout things that seem deep than to actually have to find any depth. People want to hear a nice message and not think too hard most of the time, so it became more popular. Because at first glance with all the jargon it seems pretty deep and profound. It just unravels once you question it. It's the same reason many new agers use drugs as spiritual experiences. It's easier and faster than doing actual studying and putting in effort.

Literally just read the whole Wiki page on him. Personally, I don't think it was suicide for a few simple reasons. That face he's making, the fact that is eyebrows are raised make me feel like he was surprised when he died, though even that being the case could still happen from hanging I guess just simply on maybe a pain he didn't expect to feel or something. Also, the suicide note that just read "suicide" is a little weird, even if he wasn't a native-English speaker. Lastly, if you're planning suicide at a motel, there's no way you'd bring a toothbrush and toothpaste with you.

My main question is more about his name. It was a character in a book who committed suicide. There are 7.5 billion people in the world, some names are certainly common or rare, but either way there's most likely multiple people with that name. Was this the only reason people think his name was an alias?

OP here. What struck me as odd was the fact that he died just 5 days after 9/11. Not sure of the significance of that.
