So I see a lot of people on here asking how to reach "Enlightenment" as if it is some "10 step plan to Enlightenment!" when in reality, it isn't that simple.

Yes reaching Enlightenment is spiritual, but not completely, and definitely not in the way you see these "mystics" talking about it. (i.e. Reaching enlightenment through magic/contacting a spirit guide/etc.). Don't get me wrong, it can help progress you towards enlightenment, but it wont do the trick.

To be Enlightened, you must be closer to/one with yourself. (i.e meditation, diving into your own subconscious, etc.) but you must also be very knowledgeable. I don't mean in Magic and the Dark Arts, I mean actual knowledge. History, Science, Philosophy, Languages, etc... Enlightenment means "Waking up"/ "Realising your place in the world"/etc (it varies depending on the person). Which in turn means, you wake up to how the world actually works, and you have become a decent human being (all depending on what your misdoings are now, i.e cursing a lot/laziness/irrationality/etc. And if you actually put an effort to fix it.)

I know humans have gotten to a stage where we only care about ourselves and our futures. That's the problem, we need to wake up as a Humanity and realise that we are all one race influenced by the same thing. Knowledge. Nobody can deny it, every one of us craves the same thing. Enlightenment truly is the next step in "Human Evolution. There is no progression, without unification.

Read books, go outside and talk to people, and most importantly, never stop asking questions.

Buddhism was enormously influenced by Christianity, and a lot of the things we started considered "ancient Eastern wisdom", with the advent of Orientalism, actually originated with Christianity.

For instance, “mantra” and “japa” (mantra meditation) just meant a regular prayer in Eastern religions until a while after Christians started using constant repetitions. The earliest Buddhist canon, which is the Pali canon, dates from 29 BC and make no mention of mantra meditation. Christian meditation dates back to the OT (Genesis 24:63). Joshua 1:8 says to keep the Law constantly on your lips, to meditate on it day and night. The word translated as “meditate” here, means to mutter or growl quietly. Paul says to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17) The earliest extensive written instructions on Christian mantra meditation, were authored by Saint John Cassian, in 420 AD, at the behest of Bishop Castor of Apt. The earliest account of Buddha as we think of him now was written by Buddhaghosa, and dates from around the same time Saint John Cassian was writing (earlier accounts of Buddha are closer to something out of Homer). The Visuddhimagga, Buddhaghosa’s extensive meditation manual, makes no mention of mantras; here meditation is focusing on something (or focusing on precisely nothing), but none of the instruction says anything about use of mantras in meditation. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, from the 4th Century AD, mention mantras, but here they have nothing to do with mediation, they’re invocations used to gain power over things, probably the identical sense to what they were for Brahmin priests. As for Hinduism, their most famous mantra, the Hare Krishna, was not used for constant repetition or meditation until 16th Century AD, when it was popularized by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

Has anyone actually had an encounter with someone who they legitimately thought could be the devil himself? I know how strange and outlandish this question might be, but seriously.

I myself am not a religious person. In fact, I consider myself spiritual, but very very far from being religious in all its ideological senses. With that said. I believe I have encountered the devil himself. I'm talking about the Devil. Not figuratively speaking, but the Devil.

For most of my life I have always been quiet, reserved, easily discouraged by failure and setbacks--which in my life there have been numerous. To say the least, as a young man about to turn twenty, I was still optimistic about the future and very ambitious. What I do have is talent. I have musical, written, academic and artistic talent. But over time as trials in my young life grew more and more burdensome, I began growing cold about things and even jaded. Yet still I endeavored to pursue. But then I met an amazing individual--also my age--who was incredibly intelligent, charismatic, and was an outstanding conversationalist. Let's call this person "L.X."

It was very easy becoming friends with L.X. L.X. took deep interest in my pursuits and interests. We started to hang out all the time. L.X. would introduce me to people he knew, and they were all very talented people. Needless to say, me and L.X. were destined to be best friends, and that we became. As time went by, L.X. took harder and harder interests in his business pursuits. I always noticed that L.X., though he never actually worked a real job like everyone else starts off with, always had money. Lots of money. If I didn't have cash it didn't matter because L.X. would take care of it. That's when L.X. started talking to me about my dreams. He grew easily disinterested in my other friends and stopped associating with them altogether. I noticed over the years a strange change in L.X.
