If we assume quantum computing is possible and that we can arrive at a unified equation to emulate physics, then it would follow that a quantum computer can emulate reality.
It would also be possible for a quantum computer in said emulated reality to emulate reality again, and a quantum computer in that reality, etc., etc.
If there are X possible emulations before it is no longer possible to continue creating realities (due to limitations of the "real" computer), then the chance that we live in the "highest" reality is 1/X
It's not really a "Matrix-like" simulation, simulation implies shortcuts and the idea in The Matrix is that the brains and bodies of the people are real and organic, existent in the "real world." The idea here is that reality is perfectly emulated to the point where it is indistinguishable from the real thing, and that the human brains and bodies inside are products of/part of the emulation as opposed to being "plugged in."

After that awful The Witch thread, I feel the need to recommend an actually good horror movie.
The way this movie ends is just incredible.
Full of suspense, absolutely terrible, and completely consistent with the tone of the rest of the film.
The whole film is just one slow buildup to that incredibly tense ending.
Compare this with The Witch, where the ending basically ruins the whole movie.
Jesus Christ, The Witch was shit.
I think I'd rather read some shit pasta about summoning a tulpa than watch The Witch again.

In V/H/S there are these recordings of paranormal events that, in turn, seem to provoke paranormal events... or at least dramatically affect the people that watch them. Now obviously the movies were just movies... uneven in quality, just a bunch of fun with blood and boobs.
BUT here's my question: if it were possible to create a video that affects anyone who watches it, in a real, no-going-back kind of way, what would it take?
Is it possible to use a combination of chanting, hypnotic and subliminal imagery, strobes, binaurals... I mean... if we really worked at it, applied all of our occult knowledge, could we create a video that would stand alone as something that (at least psychologically!) affects people in some specific way?

Also interesting are the sparse claims by some of Army Rangers and tactical ops being deployed to deal with incidents where humans go missing or are harmed by so-called "rogue" individuals, which if true, would seem to suggest a certain level of awareness on the governments part regarding such creatures. These groups are said to operate with a significant degree of efficiency as well, coming into an area then leaving the next day with no casualties and "the problem taken care of".
It's not unthinkable that public ignorance would be the most practical form of conservation for a species such as Bigfoot or Dogmen which remain largely out of sight. In incidents such as German Town Ohio it appears that the DNR along with local government have gone so far as to appropriate parcels of wilderness as off-limits sites to prevent curiosity seekers and civilians entrance into these woods.
The idea of a massive all-encompassing conspiracy is highly unlikely as the situation just seems to be a case of simple pragmatism on the Government's part as a fairly low-mid level. Quite honestly no real scientific discovery or gain justifying the assure further decline of such species, be it Bigfoot or Dogmen, and no exorbitant amount or resources or funding can really be justified in dealing with or preserving them either. So long as these creatures seem content to stay out of human habitation the fairly minimalistic approach of "patch & pray" seems to work relatively well when dealing with cases of human disappearances.
I does make one wonder though that if there is any credence to these things existing or the allegations of the Missing 411 reports, just how many of those missing persons can be attribute to Bigfoot and how many to Dogmen?
