I was somehow lonely in the dream and felt connection to him, and could definitely feel that he fancied me. He seemed really good hearted, kind. It felt like I was in control and he was pleasing me.

To answer your question as asked, people who join cults are usually women seeking to contextualize some traumatic or generally "bad" recent event or longrunning trait in their lives. In addition to the merely mental-intellectual perk of having the anxiety of not understanding life or something in it removed, the appeal of being a cult member is that it essentially allows one to regress to a childlike role, where the cult leader or leaders play the parental role of the person who can be trusted to have all the answers and make all the decisions for you — another reason why it appeals to people in vulnerable states of mind, either those who have experienced something traumatic recently and don't know what's what anymore or don't want to be themselves any longer, or who never had that sort of dependable, safe guidance when they were younger (the same sort of people who are stereotyped as having "daddy issues").

Men usually join cults in pursuit of the women already in them, the sexuality of whom the cult leaders tend to monopolize as well, basically pimping them out or using their vaginas as a carrot-on-a-string to get men to join and feed more money and manpower into the organization. That's not to say there aren't also men who join for the same reasons I just outlined as being the normal ones for women, though.

Prior to the incident a green van with darkened windows has been following me around. When I parked my car to do business I noticed a shoddy looking middle-aged tall and overweight man filming with a camera.

A lot of the information comes from the Tibetan Book of the Dead or other esoteric works. I would suggest starting with the wikipedia articles for Monarch, following links that lead to info about Sex Kitten and for good measure check out blue bird, and the other MK experiments. Also look into the Tibetan book of the Dead article and follow links from there. They have some stuff sourced in their links that you can verify for yourself. In terms of the pop stars being relevant it is more their imagery than the specific sonic waves their music generates. Look at Katy Perry's music videos and it is extremely evident. While there is compelling evidence for their music having an effect on the consumer that is more a byproduct of the organizations that use these puppets. What I am talking about is the incorporation of the imagery associated with hypnotic and abusive mind control techniques being used in mass media like the pic in OP.

Could just be HPPD, I've never heard of that happening from DMT use specifically but you can get it from psilocybin which is a DMT analogue so it's probably possible.
