I've watched Across the River after the last rec thread, I'm not sure what to think about it. I like the atmosphere and all the buildup, but the ending seemingly cut everything short (like what happened in the abandoned village and why it was important that the main character was Italian) and it would be no different if the spooky parts were replaced with an attack of a man-eating bear or something, and if the old man was just a demented weirdo. Perhaps it flew over my head, and I'll have to watch it again.

>everyone has land (farm,orchards) on hills
>work there during the day, come down to the village to sleep
>one day a certain dude (whose name I forgot), stayed working a little too long
>nightfall
>gets on his horse and started on home
>the path to the village leads beside a graveyard
>forgets to cross himself while passing it like any good Christian should
>not long after, he hears a lamb bleating
>not unusual because in those days everyone let their farm animals wonder the woods freely
>he was a little scared at this point for being alone in the woods at night
>therefore he picks up the lamb and starts caressing it
