It was probably a local Canaanite deity, or it may even have been an Israelite one that the Yahweh worshippers disapproved of. The real holden calves were probably statues with gold plate, which isn't hugely expensive. The story of melting down coins to make one at Mt. Sinai is probably a myth, made to explain where the practice came from and insert into a story about a patriarch.

Interestingly, The Bible indicates the ancient Israelites believed foreign gods had some kind of power. For example in 2 Kings 3:27 the Moabite king carries out a human sacrifice that brings the power of his god (Chemosh) against the Israelites

This is the only video I've seen with Pavlita in it, but it wasn't put out by the Hungarian researcher. Zdenek in the video would've been interesting to talk to as well, because he founded the Psychotronic Research group after working with Pavlita. The problem is that a lot of these groups aren't in English, and researching parapsychology is seen as heresy.
