Pirate Python Programming for the Absolute Beginner.

Once you're done with it... well, buy it. But I mean, once you're done with it, you'll know the basics of programming, so you'll be able to move on to programming real stuff.

If you wanna program websites, you need to learn html/css/javascript/php/mysql (most likely). The best introductory book to this is That 8-in-1 dummies one... er... let me google... "HTML, XHTML, and CSS All-in-one for Dummies", I believe. Again, pirate it and buy it later if you found it useful.

If you wanna make games, you'll already know python, so moving on pygame would be a no brainer, specially as mobile is lucrative as fuck and you can compile pygame for mobile through kivy. The best book for learning pygame is "Making Games with Python & Pygame". You can actually download this one from the author's website, but again, once you're done with it, if you found it useful, fucking buy it.

As for making desktop stuff... I use kivy, but I don't think there's any beginners books for it, but you should be able to use it, though not perfectly but what can you do, after reading Python Programming for the Absolute Beginner and the basic tutorial on the kivy website.

Don't use java. And before you ask, no, java and javascript are two different things.

H-games are an odd bunch, are you looking for visuals and gameplay or are you open to more text adventures and the likes where fetishes run wild but visuals are nearly non-existent.

Well if you can deal with jap, use dlsite to find things you like and sukebei to download them.

I personally recommend Kurovadis, a very engaging platformer with good sprites.

Vitamin Quest is one I haven't played but seen a bunch of talk about and the screenshots make it look good. Plus theres a second one coming out soon.

Violated Heroine is great just a bitch to set up. Shame it will never be finished.

what level are we talking about?

almost every free video software has FFmpeg under the hood. it's quite powerful, but not very userfriendly (command line tool).

if you want a GUI, Avidemux is a lightweight non-linear video editor for all your basic stuff.

if you need complex editing with multiple layers and tracks there is really no way around Blender. yes, the 3D modelling software. it has a very powerful video editor built in. sadly, the usability is abysmal. if you want to get into it, start right with video tutorials on YouTube. otherwise chances are, you won't even be able to open the right interface in Blender to get to the video editor.

if you're not set on actual free and open software, but you just don't want to pay and stay legal - i believe Lightworks (yes, the professional editing software some actual hollywood movies are made on) has a free version. caveats: enormously complex and the free version has limited video output (very few codes, not all resolutions afaik).
