Honest to God question - what's the appleal of both Anchorman movies? I was unable to have any fun with the first one and dropped it halfway through, And yet it's super-popular and with a cult following.
What did I miss? Is it one of those movies you need to watch in specific circumstances? Or something else?
>>1851861
This guy should stay in the B-movies, where he belongs.
Promoting him to big-budget productions was a grave mistake.
>>1851927
Lol, fuck off.
>>1851937
Because?
He has literally two faces to make, one tone to speak and chews his lines every single motherfucking times like they were a fucking raw meat. Let's also not forget how dead serious he approaches all his roles, no matter how fuck-huge schlock it is.
Seriously, have you seen any of his recent movies, where the hype around "Michael Fassbender, greatest new actor eveh!" died down a bit?
Because it's the same kind of shit like with Bradley Cooper, who - fortunately - already disappeared.

You can play an emotionless robot (especially since said robot is not emotionless, nice showing you didn't grasp the movie) without sucking at it.
Just think about it - Christian Bale can't fucking emote and yet he fucking owns in Equilibrium, while playing a guy stoned up to his nose to surpress emotions.
>>1851598
I'm amused at the thought of the kind of conversation JG Ballard and Spielberg would have as Spielberg explains to Ballard that while his autographical book is amazing, he's going to write out the lead character because large parts of the audience tends to find kids to be annoying cunts.
>>1853564
Considering Jamie is not an annoying cunt in the book, that would indeed be an interesting conversation.
Seriously, it never cease to amaze me how Bale was first casted to play that role and then made a fucking career on the fact he played the most annoying kid that year. Literally what the fuck
>>1853865
While I will admit that the script in already increases his power level, the real problem is simply that child actors are very often annoying simply because they are fucking awful.
There are a few exceptions like Haley Joel Osment that are just freakishly good at what they do however. For the most part, they just crank everything up to ELEVEN, which is what Bale did.

really powerful scene. love cilier's (bowie's) look into the distance after the second kiss knowing he's just sealed his own death, before the intense eye contact
the scene after that where all the PoWs sing christmas songs to him after he's buried up to the neck is so moving
probably one of my favourite films of all time. the only let down is that the japanese actors clearly are pretty limited in their english skills which can detract from their acting abilities
>actual aerial maneuvers other than slowly rolling left and right
I understand risk assessment and all that shit, but planes just sluggishly moving back and forth isn't real maneuvering.
I especially love how they portrayed one of the Zeroes doing a radical evasive maneuver in one scene.
One move, which I can't recall the name of, involves applying full pitch and right yaw, causing a sudden "zero-point" rising spin, thus throwing off an enemy's aim.
And the strangest part is, the Zero was so little and light that it was actually able to pull it off.
>>1857009
It's alright, better than the one in EP6. Once again too unfocused though because they still gotta show 2 other battles at the same time.

i feel like you dont know a whole lot about dogfighting
granted, this does seem better than what was portrayed in dunkirk among other movies
also i think you're talking about a snap roll, which most aircraft can do. not much of a dogfighting maneuver though, its a good way to kill off all of your airspeed,
>>1862234
Given how chaotic that scene is, most likely he was just told to fire the gun like he was panicing like a little school girl
>>1850394
shit what's the movie
>>1862309
Am I missing something?
Zero is just commonplace slang for the A6M series fighter.
Hell, even a fuck ton of the Allied kills in the Pacific Theatre were commonly referred to as "Zeroes" even if they bore half a passing resemblance to the A6M.
I don't care if calling them Zeroes is a meme or not, it's just slang.
And comparatively, yes, that is a radical maneuver when you look at a majority of war cinema, most directors would never want to attempt that for fear of losing a plane- or worse, a pilot.
Nope, not a snap roll, literally some sort of insane spiraling climb. Although, the Japs had some intense energy retention in the Zeroes, so I don't doubt they were able to pull off some insane maneuver like that.
If you're trying to get on your enemy's six, then yes, it's a dogfighting maneuver. Turn fighters and light aircraft are made for overshooting and close turning radii. So wouldn't it make sense for a slower, tighter-turning A6M to force a energy-powered P-40 to overshoot?

those are texans, not zeroes. they're painted up like zeroes but they are plain old t-6 texans. texans are a dime a dozen compared to other warbirds. any given year at oshkosh and you can see 20+ of them. the only real thing that suprised me was the relatively low altitude that it was performed at, something i admit probably wouldnt be done today even if they are plentiful.
a snap roll is literally just full back elevator and full rudder. snap rolls are not "insane maneuvers". any aircraft capable of doing a roll (ie any fighter ever) can perform a snap roll.
any pilot trying that in combat would find himself without a wing. it doesnt put enough distance between the start and end of the maneuver to be an effective jink. jinks usually involve a random 90+ degree roll followed by full back elevator. some lazy ass snap roll thing that puts you on the same exact flight path as before with little to no actual deviation from the flight path makes for an easier target on the initial pass as well as any subsequent pass.
