Firstly, I agree that people are entitled to a few things, which we helpfully call "human rights". These rights are a collective of entitlements based on the absolute requirements of a human being - food, water, safety, etc.

Human rights do not extend to complex desires such as romance. Romantic pursuit is not a base requirement of the human being, and this is where the term "entitlement" comes into play. A person who feels the world owes him his complex desires is a person who's point of view is fundamentally flawed - a person should gain what they earn through their own hard work; and with few exceptions, if they work hard enough they will gain what they were aiming for.

A reasonable expectation of what you will achieve in a certain timescale is not the same as a reasonable expectation of being entitled to these things. If you do not work properly to achieve these goals, they in no way inhibit your ability to survive. You are not entitled to them, and this way of thinking is flawed.

This is not something specific to the West, and this is not something which only manifests in cases where people are unable to find a romantic partner. While I agree in many cases it is caused by mental illness (especially in those cases where a person decides to shoot random strangers as "revenge"), I invite you to take a look at the world around you and tell me that this feeling of entitlement is not present in many aspects of our culture. It is an issue of personality and, to some degree, intelligence - it is not an issue of our culture or society being fundamentally broken and leaving victims in its wake.
