So the basics
>That's a fully grown blue whale
>The guy is about 15~20 feet away (I'm not good at judging distance)
>blue whale vocalizations can travel hundreds of miles and are clocked at FUCKING 188 DECIBELS
>>Long term exposure to sounds over 90 dB can cause hearing loss
>>Short term exposure over 140 dB can cause permanent hearing loss
>Death of hearing tissue occurs at 180 dB
for reference
>Gunshots are typically 150 dB (typically enough to bust an eardrum)
>Gunshots are instantaneous
>Blue whale calls typically last 2 whole seconds
>At 188 dB
maybe you're not completely deaf but your ears are fucked, but here's the kicker
>>the threshold for death is usually pegged at around 185-200 dB.
>>The general consensus is that a loud enough sound could cause an air embolism in your lungs, which then travels to your heart and kills you.
>>Alternatively, your lungs might simply burst from the increased air pressure
for this to happen the blue whale would have to be vocalizing at about the loudest it's ever been recorded, but it's a feasible possibility.
>>
>>1804009
>there's no recorded cases of deaths
>guess it's safe
the fact you're swimming next to a pod of 23 foot long, intelligent, carnivorous, dolphins doesn't strike you as dangerous?

>>
>>1804110
according to scientists the call of a sperm whale can rupture your eardrums but not much more since sounds travels differently under water
the loudest sound a whale can give off is their echolocation click which is 200 db
other whales typically only moans between 120-190db and between 10 Hz to 31 kHz

>>1804982
>guy who's never had a gun go off right next to his ear
>>
>>1802253
Is that a catfish?
>>
>>1804982
when you shoot a gun, the explosion travels out of the barrel, so the pressure wave is directed forwards. that being said, thats still really bad for your ears, so people wear hearing protection whenever they causally shoot guns, and if you are in a situation where you need to use it fast then your hearing shouldn't be your top priority.

>>

It does rotate freely, it's just zoomed way in so the movement is exaggerated. I think that was shot by chance off a drilling rig too, so maybe it's a camera that's just designed to be aimed at one thing and left.

They essentially "feel" when they bite, thats why most attacks are a single bite then the shark dicks off. Humans are too bony, not enough fat or concentrated muscle like a seal or large fish would have.

While most of my shooting experience in in the military, I found it funny that the sound of my rifle cycling sounded louder than my own gunshot. It felt louder echoing back from the bank behind the targets.

That being said, I did suffer a slight damage to my hearing when during a live fire exercise my earbud fell out just as about a dozen guys next to me opened up on full auto.

>>1805329
I know one dude that had an IFV drive next to him during a nighttime exercise and start shooting with its autocannon. Know more than a few accidental discharges, several of them right by someone's ear. Stress, lack of sleep and life ammo are not a good combo.

While orcas are dangerous as fuck, the stupidest thing he does is actually swim into the school of fish. You notice how he spots the orcas when he swims out of it? That's because it's a fucking bait ball.

On the one hand, that means they're residents, and more or less exclusively eat fish. Transients are the really nasty fuckers, which will try and tip over the ice floe you're standing on if they think that your dog is a seal.

On the other hand, he was in the middle of the goddamn bait ball. That's asking to get caught in an orca's mouth as it goes for fish.

>>
>>1828114

Human beings are by nature social creatures, and when confronted with strange and wondrous things tend to feel an urge to speak about them with one another, barring abnormalities in their neurology or their psyche.

This is a legitimate and serious question- are you, perhaps, autistic?
>>
>>1828085
Did you film that yourself?
Idiot.
>>
>>1796342

>>

>muh human beings we social creatures n shiet!1

fact of the matter is that if you're doing some kind of deep sea world content and you want it to be somehow good, you either shut the fuck up entirely and let the images speak for themselves or narrate things in a calm, short and comforting way

you sure as hell don't go screaming and going fucking nuts like if you were in a football game because it absolutely destroys the immersion, fucking facebook tier stupid shit

good job moving the goalposts tho retard
>>

You literally can't be more immersed than being actually there like they are. They aren't narrating this for the Discovery Channel, they're talking to each other.

The members of the family of delphinidae are way, way smarter than what people believe them to be.
Wild dolphins that have never seen a human or another ground animal in their entire lives can come to the extremely complex conclusion that this new animal (a human) is not meant to live in the water and it's drowning, just by looking at him desperately trying to stay afloat, and then they take the decision to save him.
They can get emotionally attached even outside of their species, can get depressed (see some orcas in cautivity cases), are able to make stupid decisions, can hold grudges, can solve logical problems, and have complex personalities.

There was some studies behind those obscure cases of dolphin rape and murder upon humans. They found that in the majority of these rare events, they were young dolphins who had not reach maturity yet: some of their teenagers literally behave like some of our horny, stupid teenagers would if they knew their actions had no consequences.
This anon >>1824025 is right. Wild orcas leave humans alone. Practically all of the known attacks have come from specimens in captivity where they keep them in secondary pools where they can barely move. And I may be wrong, but I think most attacks came for the same orca, one that probably decided it didn't like to live in those conditions.

I'm always hearing of the "mirror test" as a measure of how intelligent an animal is, if it can recognize itself as a conscious being.
But what it sets the delphinidae family apart from other animals for me is that they not only recognize themselves, but they also seem to understand that humans are another conscious species just like them.
They may not reach the level of humans, but there are some real thought process going in their heads.

can't really say the same thing about Sun O))) anon, the experience was soul wrecking, to the point of feeling possessed by the music and Attila's chants, I mean like in african shamanism possessed, almost out of body experience and a little ego death without taking any psychedelics, the whole hour they were playing literally lasted 5 minutes in my brain

staging was awesome too, at least the couple minutes I could watch them without feeling absolutely overwhelmed by their sound

I have one of these, they are about the most entertaining pet fish you can possibly own as they are very interactive and full of personality.
Having said that this one is uncharacteritically friendly as red devils are generally extremely aggressive.

Mine will follow me everywhere I go in the room and try to kill me everytime I get to close to the tank.
The only times he doesn't attack is when I'm feeding him or petting him he also lets me pick him up when I need to clean the tank because he hates the net.
