Sometimes I wonder if i'll ever reminisce about the time im living in now when I'm in my 40s or 50s, just like the people from the 80s reminiscing about their youth. If i'll ever think back to the cool stuff, music, style, movies etc etc. Sort of makes me feel that I don't appreciate the present enough.

>Nostalgia - it's delicate, but potent.

>Teddy told me that in Greek, "nostalgia" literally means "the pain from an old wound." Its a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone. This device isn't a spaceship, its a time machine. It goes backwards, and forwards... it takes us to a place where we ache to go again. It's not called the wheel, it's called the carousel. It let's us travel the way a child travels - around and around, and back home again,

Depends on definition of "woman". When only female shape is concerned, sex change is perfectly achievable. Penis doesn't care about chromosomes.

Kids growing up today have no idea what a shit world this has turned into. They just think of it as "normal." I wouldn't want to be without the internet and my phone, but the 70's-80's where an amazing time to be growing up. The music was so much better (no comparison to today's garbage) and people were much happier, even during recessions, etc. It wasn't just that I was young and didn't experience things; times truly WERE better. Today is muddled with so much hate and what a mess; crap music, crap food, social media hate, government worse than ever (non-partisan, both parties SUCK), corruption worse than ever, everyone's on medications and/or illegal drugs. Just one fucked up as hell planet.

Nostalgia can be potent and it is a strongly recorded fact that people long for the past where they were not experiencing the full force of all the problems they would have as adults or even adults themselves reminiscing about their younger days - however we are at a juncture where the rise of Internet and a tipping point in information culture and consumption mean that the past truly was different from now - things like music or fashion spread more subtly and with speed of a word of mouth, as opposed to being beamed directly into our eyes via the net.

A lot of humanity was lost through the internet as the medium of exchange became the focus of the exchange itself, as opposed to enable people communication or life.

I sometimes think that Internet is crippling socially and intellectually, with everything handed to people on a platter.
>>
>>1808900
I think makeup back then did more to accentuate youthful elements of the face and didn't rely so heavily on strong foundations and eyeliners - at least the girls shown in these pictures use very light makeup.

Fashions change but aesthetics not, people simply don't have much of a comparison these days and it saddens me.

Anonymous always moves the goalposts when proven wrong and never learns anything. Anonymous is the most stupid man I have ever met.

>>1842351

It's like insisting that adults are children because they were children 20 years ago. Trans women are men en route to womanhood. Hence "trans".

>>1842351
>HE is a man.
What makes "him" a man?
Penis? I guess eunuchs are women then...
Body? There are transvestites with better body than most women.
Inability to bear children? I guess infertile women are men then...
Chromosomes? There are AIS women with the chromosomes you call male.

you wish, all the stuff I cherish is super obscure to begin with, because of that the fans that are a part of really niche hobbies tend to be the ones that do the most to support it and keep it alive, coming from a US perspective this might be hard to understand because of how easily things fall of a cliff here, but for those of us who saw through the vapid commercialism of the 90s and early 2000s with a crictical eye you see a much different picture, try making the same .webm using Japanese trends and fads during the same era and see how different a result you get, you'll see way more things from back then that still survive to this day, because they weren't just advertised to they were given products both the seller and the consumers believed in.

Anyone know what the names of the Marionette and Ultimate fighter music is called?
>>
>>1784796
I was reminiscing on this period and the effect of pop culture, it seems throughout the seventies and sixties there was an increase in indulgence and excess in style and culture to where it was revolting, the 80's and early 90's seem like a relaxing regression back from the volatility of the previous two decades, and inb4 someone says go back to /pol/ a regression back from the urban, black dominated culture to a more relaxed European/Asian dominance.
>>
>>1848521
Your post oozes with presumptuousness and arrogance. With a touch of irony, considering you posted a digimon device, aka a fad that is now dead. Just because there is something coming out about it merely means someone decided to cater for a niche market, as is always happens in capitalism.
You come across as a mixture of a weaboo and a hipster, with your oh so special, totaly unique preferences. Get out of your bubble. Japan doesn't preserve its cultural/consumerist past any more so than any other country.
Take for example, the electronics industry, once Japan's crown jewel. Today china and korea fill that place. Fucking sony's of all companies is struggling for years now. And Japan consumes iPhones like everybody else. It is infact one of its best markets.
Get down of your high horse. Understand what nostalgia is before coming and talking shit, thinking your experiences are somehow apart and superior to others'.
>>
>>1848521
Also, regarding to your digimon game. I believe you will be hard pressed to present the argument that these sell on any market point other than, you guessed it: fucking nostalgia.
Do you think if someone changed the IP on the device and proposed to sell it with some other crap, would you get any business out of it? Possibly but hardly any. Maybe some weirdo or two and some even more hipsterish guy than you that is interested in early 90's segmented monocromatic lcd displays. Even then my point would still stand.
Your argument that these sell on their own merit, apart from longings from the past can not sustain itself.
Get real.
>>
>>1848680
>>1848685
I posted the Digimon merch because it goes beyond nostalgia and is proof that a series 20 years old can still have relevance beyond a fad as it continues to sell anime and games pertaining to the franchise to this day, and not because it was suddenly revived to cash in on the old series but a franchise the was continually going for 20 years, of course a reason why people like the series is because they have a connection to it but that goes with anything and the entire point is that the super minor series that blow up and burn out over here in the United States of a lot longer longevity in Japan because they're not treated as throwaways by corporations who only look to make a quick buck rather than invest in it's product and try to make a lasting history out of their endeavors.
>>
>>1848719
You're delusional. Again, its alive on the same way that everything itt is technically alive. After all, many things from the past got posted and are being talked about.

Japan is not superior to the united states or any other country in this matter, in regards to preserving culture or anything that you're on about.

The digimon ip, much like the pokemon ip really, rellies nowadays on nostalgia. People cling to it, keeping it alive, and it ends up introducing the franchise to other people. But these things are explode again and become once more part of the mainstream.
>>
>>1848771
*these things RARELY explode again
>>
>>1848771
I mean above that, beyond what just gets talked about from the past and more into what actually still exists as an active company able to sell it's franchises and property to interested consumers. I think you continue to bring up nostalgia when it comes to these giant franchises which for the most part have lasted far longer the majority of American properties ever have with maybe the exceptions of Superman and Batman, is that the idea of building upon your success over the course of the years brings up the idea to you that it only fuctions because people remember, which is a stretch of the term nostalgia in my opinion when what your describing is just the human idea of functioning off past experiences, I guess related to the American super heroes which always seemed to sell off of their image without the need for innovation I could see where you're coming from, but that it itself is proof that they way they function in regards to these things are very different, I don't see why it would be wrong to see fault in the way America was never successful in keeping series alive AND still making money, which is an important difference between something like the A-team and Golgo 13 or any other number of comparisons you could make.
>>
>>1848785
Explain to me what it is you think japan has in its composition that - according to you - makes their ips last longer? What cultural aspects take part in it? What are some good examples that you think live today, not in nostalgic form, but on their own merit?

The argument you presented can be made both ways. When you talk about continuity, you choose to ignore all the examples that state the contrary. For instance, one can argue that superhero culture is in its peak, with big budget capeshit movies being churned every 6 months or so, comic conventions, new comics out of the ass to choose from, lots of merchandise, etc. However if you look at the origins of this material, a lot of it is long running. Spider-man for example dates back to 1962.

Apart from the ip talk, the USA is one the countries with the most museums and libraries. Doesn't this state a case for the preservation of the past and continuity?

In any society, there is always going to be a subset of people obsessed with historiography and the preservation of things. This doesnt mean these things are "alive" anymore, in a mainstream "public awareness" way. Additionally, there's always going to be people interested in the past in general, and some seek emotional refuge in it. Its human nature to fear the future and long for comfort the past. Sure none of it is based on logic, thats just how it is.
