god i remember thread 127, when I first started going on /wsg/
the first thread I saw was with Uchouten Kazoku in the header, and I immediatly picked it up.
Around those days, the "Cawfee and gween tee" memes were at their peaks in every thread, and the slow down for every scene in that anime was underway.
Everyone kept giving advice on webm creation with the penguindrum song thing, and kept complaining about the webm to post ratio for each.
other threads on the site were just starting to post john cena, filthy frank, and thug life, and have only upped their game over time.
I've skipped a lot of these threads, and while somethings have changed a lot (like the inclusion of wait for saucefags), some things never change.
Thanks for the ride anons, it has helped me through a bunch over the year.

It's very good, in my eyes at least. Going by some people that doesn't means much tho, but that's another story.

Quality is overall pretty good so i don't really see a reason to wait for the BD, except you want a higher quality sub with more info that you'll likely only get via fansubs like with the 2(1) episode "Special Edition" that happened before the TV release.

As with most things I'd just say give it a try with a few episodes and see how you like it.

I've not made many VP9 since there's little point at present but I've always noticed a significant space saving simply by ticking that little box in WebM for Retards.
a 4MB VP8 ended up as 2.5-3MB with no other settings changed with exception of that checkbox

Sometimes I think the quality settings are shifted since VP9 has a longer range in crf. VP8 crf highest quality value is 4 while VP9 is 0. Using 0 obviously results in a higher file size. Then VP9 has a lossless option as well. This can show how the same settings from VP8 will result smaller than VP9.

Subs also can cause a surpisingly bloat in filesize, skip them unless you feel they are really needed.
Once you get below <L>x300 resolution I tend to find any smaller res is not worth it for the tanking in quality.
Sometimes a higher-rez though lower quality (going by CRF/Tolerance values) can look better.

Here is your example with a higher res and no subs. Still not great but looks a bit better to watch

Yes it shows the command. I took the OPM example I've posted and using VP9 it shrank the file to 3070KB

Full command used according to WFR was:

Ah that explains why, I usually never go to low quality. I'll explore using that to see what I am doing wrong.
I use ffmpeg so I do everything manually. Not difficult to use, its my old computer that makes it annoying.

Yeah personally I dislike having to go higher than 40 but it was needed to produce the OPM example.

I pick 480 for width, 30 CRF and 02 tolerance. Depending on how large the initial size is I then drop the res if too high to 420, 360 or 300.
I then increment CRF up or down until I hit just below 4MB then increment tolerance up until I'm just under the 4MB mark.

I go for 4 CRF to 10 CRF then go to 40 for longer clips. Then I adjust the b:v value to have more control on the file size. For scale I try to stay on the standard of 720, 420, 360, and 240

I have never in my life encountered a dub that I did not find absolutely disgusting, unless it was parodical as in the case of Ghost Stories. There's something about dubs that just repulses me.
