Dumping some Monkey Island.
>can't stack up enough captchas because they expire before the list is complete
This is irritating. I'll have to do these in smaller batches.

Alright, second round.
Final round of the Monkey Island backgrounds.
And that's it for this game.
Next I will post Loom's, after that I never finished making the ones from Monkey Island 2, so I'll post the few I have and see if I can't get off my lazy ass and complete that job.
A little bonus, a collage I made of screenshots of Escape Goat.

THANK YOU
Alright, on to Loom.
By the way, if you're noticing that the aspect ratio seems a bit off in some of these, that's because it is: VGA didn't display images using square pixels, so the artists compensated for it.
When I originally made them I chose to keep the pixels square. I regret that decision now, but I don't want to go back to resize and crop them all.

You're welcome.
Loom backgrounds often have this weird letterboxing. Sometimes they have part of the background actually going over the black bars, which is nice, but mostly it just looks ugly, which is a shame.
I think they used that area for the staff and other gameplay elements, but it's been a long time since I've played this so I don't remember.
I decided to at least fix the Monkey Island screen that looks the ugliest with the wrong pixel aspect ratio, so here's the 16:10 version.
>>6366036
And a 16:9 crop.
More Loom!
I had to restore this first one because the dragon's neck and head are a sprite, so they didn't appear in the background. I've had to grab the head from another screenshot and put them together.
The palettes were slightly different, but it can't be noticed.
I'm also adding this Metroid title screen. I didn't do the upscaling, but I removed the C 1986 Nintendo text which I didn't like.
Another quick round before going to bed.
And this is all for Loom too. Tomorrow I'll upload the ones I have of Monkey Island 2 and probably finish upscaling the ones I don't have yet.
Then if I'm still into it I want to do The Dig which has most probably the greatest backgrounds of all Lucasfilm games.

These are great man. I actually really like how some elements of the background clip into the black bars on some of them.
Good day, it's time for Le Chuck's Revenge. These backgrounds have a bit more detail than the previous games. I have 12 already made for this, then my dumping will have to slow down because I have to make the new ones.
>>6366445
Yeah, I like that in the Loom backgrounds, but it's underused.
I've run into a problem when trying to make the new ones: I wanted to stop using square pixels, but when I'm resizing to get the original pixel aspect ratio of 1:1.2 I'm not getting uniform pixel size, but an approximation, so some pixels are slightly taller and some shorter.
I need to find a decent compromise, but it will take longer than I had expected.
I think this works acceptably. By upsampling them to 4K I get most of the pixels of the same size, and the difference isn't discernible.
I suppose that to make this work properly I'd have to make a custom resizer because nothing I tried with the standard nearest neighbour attempted to make all pixels the same size, even when I did my best to help it.

That's all I can do for now, gotta split.
I'll do a few more now.
Interestingly, Wally is part of the background in this one. I was certain I had seen him moving his head when playing the game, but I guess I was wrong.
This room deserves to have both halves shows. So many references in it.
>>6366876
And the second half.
>>6366879
Since I was there anyway, I also made a centered version.
>>6366887
A lazy attempt at making an uncropped version of this to fit in a 16:9 frame.
>>6366879
Crap, I just noticed I had undercropped this one by three pixels.
I didn't realise Monkey Island 2 has so many backgrounds. I'm not even halfway through.
based op
The maps are already fullscreened, instead of being ultrawide scrolling backgrounds, so cropping makes them look really ugly.
What I do is make a 16:10 fullscreen version...
>>6367073
...and a 16:9 with transparent pillarbox.

I love how this one looks. I suppose it's an edit, right? The emulator wouldn't be able to run it in a non-stretched high resolution like that.
I'm still doing this.
I just figured out a better way to preserve more of the picture while still correcting the pixel aspect ratio and cropping to 16:9.
It's a learning experience.
This method is actually faster though.
Some mood music? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtNBs-7cy1I
I noticed I skipped this background from the first game. Weird. I guess I didn't like how it looked.
I couldn't frame this properly. The scene is just too wide, it doesn't work.
Back in elementary school I could fool everyone with this riddle.
I should only have 25-30 left from Monkey Island 2.
I don't remember this room at all. It's clearly from the fortress. Pretty spooky though.

This one is nice.
I've slacked off today. It doesn't help that it's so lonely in here.
Anyway, this is another background that looks like it comes from LeChuck's fortress, but I can't remember. I wonder if there were parts of the game they've cut. The fortress does indeed feel very short, after all.
Last round of Monkey Island 2, then I'm done. I've clearly overdone it and killed the mood. But I need to finish with this game at least.
