Illustrator is used by all but maybe 2 of us. It is simply better and don't expect much much help with complex things in inkscape... like rotating an object, they make it harder than it has to be, as we simply don't know it well, if at all.

Unfortunately Nakki is right here, a lot of the users who have been doing vectoring for several years use Ai; It's just a stronger program over all. I say unfortunately because Ai is not free and Adobe has their products on subscription now so if you dont have the money its unlikely (unless you pirate) that you will get it.

I use inkscape sometimes, but I prefer illustrator over it, because not only the thing with the rotation (you have to go to a transform tool instead of just dragging - sheesh!) but also, when doing complex gradients, you have zero choice - I did several complex gradients using the radial and planar gradients, but it was a logistics nightmare (on roses, even!) and nearly cost me my sanity (the actual roses in base colors did that first) Thought eh Urabe one came out decent, I'm still disappointed I am unable to change the colors easily, as I could with a gradient mesh...

some small things that will fix the color on the umbrella to make it more 3D.

First that middle color change where the first bend is.
second is the things went from light in the middle to dark outside,more important with that break.
Third is a couple gradients, one from the middle out and the second on each side of the rib.

Mine is sloppy and i misaligned a couple things but you get the idea

Barring that: do each piece of hair as its separate thing. In this fixme, the colored lines show the grouping of how the hair should (roughly) go - not done as fills on purpose so you can understand the concept....

Any tutorials that are more in depth with making lines in Illustrator? I'm literally retarded and cannot make a line following the stickied tutorial. My lines end up curving WAY too much and I can't adjust them.

Should have used the example toes as a guide rather than copy them so closely, they don't fit the style that you use for the rest of the picture.
No big deal though, you can just leave them and learn from it or just make them a bit smaller to match your other toes more closely.

Keep an eye on your line consistency, I would say that is usually the thing people need help with right from the start. Areas of the hair on the left most figure are too thick in most areas. Try to make sure you have your points parallel on each side of the fill and take as much time as you need making them even. You will get faster over time.

You need to watch the tutorials. Yuo are using too many nodes, and not making them smooth where they need to be. Biggest offender is the face line.

Consistency - your lines are all over the place. Again: biggest offender is the face line. Try using the mouse width at specific zoom levels to help with this. Also be sure to make your nodes parallel to one another. Again: all of this is in the tutorials.

Connections - Your lines don't connect solidly with one another - either make longer, more connected lines, or be sure that, when you make a line, you hide one under another.

Next time, before you put 20 hours into a thing, try watching a couple tutorials that explain how to do it the right way like the ones in the OP here.

It's not very good and for a few reasons.

Firstly, try to avoid rounding your points unnecessarily, one of a vector's greatest strength is to look extremely sharp and precise. The only place I'd use rounded points for the image you picked would be on the corners of the bow and maybe the fluffy parts around her wrists, the rest should all be sharp ends.

Secondly, use less nodes for your lineart. As it is, your lines look lumpy and wobbly and that's mostly caused by not having curves that are simplified enough. You want to try to lay down your nodes in pairs and keep the handles parallel to each other, that should also help avoid wobbliness.

There's more but your should start working on these points.

I'll attach a quick example of how I'd do part of the hair and her right eye.

The reason I vector is to improve the image I'm working on, not recreate it perfectly. If I judge something is an error or could look better, I modify with the tools I have to how I think it'd look better. Some people might have different opinions of what vector tracing is for but my goal is to enhance an image, both in resolution and details. I tend to only pick images that I feel I can improve, such as ones with cut off parts, grainy scan effect, improve the color palette or an element that can be redrawn better.
