Not the OR, but there are a couple issues. For one, you are missing the right side of her lip.

The second is the sheer lack in quality of the eyes. If he asks to keep the eyes, you should focus on keeping the quality of them from the original, because it looks worse like this then without them at all. The same problem happens in this one >>1696720. Try adding the pupil and making a gradient like in the original.

Thanks for the effort anon. As for changes, the biggest one is that without a jawline, it looks like her head and neck are blobbed together.

That's bizzare. I'll have to pay close attention the next time this pops up for me, because I remember this exact thing being a concern of mine, but it never seemed to be a problem once exported.

Actually, I just figured it out. I went to the end of your tutorial and read how you export and noticed you use Art Optimized (Supersampling), which seems to fix this particular bug.

However, I generally do full size vectors that include lineart, so I have to use Type Optimized (Hinted) as it applies anti-aliasing around the edges of shadows and lines, otherwise all of my lines would be jagged. It might not be as obvious in a minimalism images, but if you start adding shadows and zoom in close, you should be able to notice aliasing issues around the shadow lines.

If you test exporting that Mareep that included the shadows, export each one alone at 300 PPI, one with Art Optimized and one with Type Optimized. On the Art optimized, you should noticed some aliasing issues on the shadow lines, but you won't have any weird color peeking at the clipping masks/shape builder. On the Type Optimized, the shadow lines should look smoother, but then you get the color peeking at the clipping masks/shape builder.

So, fixing one issue creates another, unfortunately. Depending on the situation, one may be worse than the other.

This guy >>1696984 again. For one, you may want to use http://i.imgur.com/0NY8N0L.jpg as a better source. It should help with the eye details.

However, even with a proper gradient, the eye still looks out of place without the full combination of eyebrows, eye folds, and a nose. This example is with it fully colored to show how much more the expression elsewhere effects the eyes.

I may seem overly pedantic, but the eyes are an important focus for me, and if it lacks quality, they really shouldn't be there in the first place. The OR will probably be fine with it, so I guess you can ignore this message anyway.

You really need to clean up a lot of the hair. I know you really want to copy the original as much as possible, but the messy painted hair does not translate well into a vector. It is better if you smooth it, especially the hair around the bottom and by her neck.

Because the minimalism style uses the fewest details possible to get the point across, and eyes are a detail that is rarely necessary and difficult to really minimalize in general; they tend to look weird if you reduce their colours, and if you keep them full-quality it can clash pretty badly with the rest of the image.

It can obviously be done, like on >>1697412. My personal opinion is to try to do the eyes, and if I can't get it to look good, I would leave the eye outline in, especially if it is nicely detailed one. This is an example of one I did a couple threads ago that I liked how the eye outline turned out, in that regard.

In the end, it just depends. Minimalism is so subjective that you can do whatever the fuck you want with it. It isn't like legit vectors where you are trying to keep it as close to the original. You get to fuck around with whatever you personally like.

Because putting it up with a background is stupid. There is a high chance someone will want a different color, or want it at a different resolution. It would be easier to just provide the vector alone, at a much higher resolution, like 300 or 600 PPI. Then it can be resized to fit any kind of resolution and have whatever color/gradient/design they want.

First off, you do not want to try to create vectors in PhotoShop; it is not designed for creating vectors and they look like shit because of that. If you want to use an Adobe program use Illustrator, if you want a freeware alternative use Inkscape.

Second, check out the tutorials in /w/'s very own, long-running vector thread here >>1695568 they will do a great job of explaining how to work with the programs and the methodology of creating vector traces. All you need to do is skip the linework part they all start with and jump straight to coloring.

As far as figuring out what details to omit and which to keep, where to put dividing lines to define a chin from a neck or an arm from a chest, that is 100% up to the artist doing the work, there are no rules set in stone there are only things that people think look good, so experiment with it, see what you think looks good and do it that way.

I am very opinionated on what I think makes a good Minimalism vector, but that doesn't mean I'm right, so I won't even bother telling you what I think.

Good thing to take advantage of is the order that your outlines go in. Whichever ones you trace out later, those are the ones which will appear on top. You can use this to draw out general shapes for objects going under, then use precision to separate the two along the border. You can avoid gaps and save time.

Hell, you can do this just by right clicking and bringing things forward or back.
