Old thread (>>1690562) at bump limit.
Very basic tutorial on how these are made:
And guys, might not be a bad idea to start putting up finished wallpapers as 300 dpi transparents. This way, the requester can just choose the background color for themselves.
Could any of you do this one? I would really appreciate it...
reposting request from previous thread
I have a little question: What is the appeal to these?
I mean, I do enjoy minimalism in generaln (in the real sense), however dumbing down anime designs just seems a little like a waste to me.
because it's something different while at the same time being the same. The more "form" you give to something the less it can change. The face has a lot of things that give it a "form" so without the face and details the possibilities become endless.
First background. I got kind of lazy on the legs and shoes. Any tips?
Don't export in a low resolution and with a background if you want criticism. Export it as a transparent at 300 PPI/DPI. I can already tell the legs look like shit, but I can't give proper criticism at this resolution.
requesting Natsu to fit this one:
Can anyone get just the toys onto a background color that looks good? It'd me much appreciated
twenty minutes i guess
still looking for more
done for the night now cause screw that hair it took too long. she's very goldy. also I trimmed her fingernails, goddamn woman learn to hygiene.
>that's really long armpit hair and I can't unsee
i give myself 1/10
tell me if you guys catch any mistakes
Sorry if this doesn't fit into the category "Anime".
Requesting these 2 Characters. The very right picture is for the shoes. Thanks in advence!
Circled some bits. Work on making more rounded corners, not just straight lines cutting up for the hair.
Also, looks like some of the shadow crossed over under the neck. Not sure if it's supposed to or not.
I'm really sorry if this is considered a nooby/stupid question, but I couldn't find any info in the OP or the sticky.
Is there any reliable way to find past 404'd minimalist wallpapers? Is there an archive somewhere?
Feel free to call me a faggot if I deserve it.
You're a faggot, lurk more, 4chanx, etc.
I didn't have any saved so i made you one. Would you like me to change anything?
yes i do this
It's a magical thing called handles. Use them. The tutorials in the Vector thread should be enough to tell you how to do it, and why it is important.
Tell me if you want anything changed
I want to thank whoever did the Tohka in the last thread, it's great!
Except he looks like the guy who hasn't even tried to read the tutorial/documentation at all. He is that guy who asks the dumbest questions in class, with which the professor has to ask, "Did you even read the chapter?", and he falls silent.
If it looks like you haven't made any effort, then I won't even try to help. Call it being rude, but I call it saving time. Show some effort and I will help.
I did it, I find it funny it took me 1 day to realize the hair is brighter near her torso in some parts and nobody pointed it out, I can post a fix if you want.
>r near her tor
I thought that was intentional, as the source image had her hair getting brighter the closer it was towards the floor. Either way, I like it, as it adds variety.
However, other anons may want a solid hair color version, so if you still have the original to fix, I think you should.
Their is probably something i can do to fix it, but i can't figure it out how.
Hey anon, I'm sorry for the slow response but thanks a whole bunch.
That's really sick and I will definitely use it. I didn't intend for someone to have to go out and make their own, but thank you very much for doing it. I like it a whole lot.
what I linked in is the image I wanted converted, the kind anon that was working on it wasn't done, since his latest post mentioned he was working on fixing the trumpet etc. It was still a WIP (tempfix was the filename, too) that I haven't heard from for almost a week. I want it real bad
requesting this with pretty much the same coloring and everything, just minimalistic
Requesting Laura in her mech, please!
Not quite minimalism, but I did a silhouette of that a couple months ago. I don't really feel like redoing it all in minimalism style, but I'll post this anyway, just in case it will suffice.
I'm working on that, i hope finish this year ;)
I hope this is to your likely. If you want me to change it then i can
Anyone wanna try a tank? Feel free to completely get rid of the background.
If someone wants to take a break of the bland cute girl models you can take a crack at this.
I should post a few of my own. I'm new to the minimalist wallpaper game, so forgive me if they're shite. I thought I'd post 'em anyway.
There is a purple outline around his head that looks like the background and some of his hair on the left isnt connected to his head but rather that line around his head
I like this one of Rumi where is she from.
From what I can see I think you should make sure that you're using handles and try to work with less nodes. Look around this ones hair line and you can see some pointy bits.
Thanks for the feedback. I kinda jumped into it without any prior knowledge or research. I'll try to use fewer nodes for hair and in general.
The Yoshitake is actually the first one I tried. I can see what you mean about the outline.
I got that image of Rumi from googling Tonari no Seki Kun wallpapers. The result was a cap from an episode.
On a nice background that complements the tank. You guys are doing gods work
It is pretty good. It covers a section of history that I haven't previously heard about before (The Great Game with the british and the russians fighting over central asia during the 1800's) and covers a lot of novel and unique ideas about tribal life on the steps. Sorry for the late response.
Would you like me to change anything?
The only textless version I found of it was this if this helped:
Thanks in advance if anyone decides to do it!
Requesting this one. If any anons feel like picking it up, please keep her eyes and mouth in if possible.
pre-empting a request coming in form the vector thread...
would you like me to change anything?
Not the OR, but there are a couple issues. For one, you are missing the right side of her lip.
The second is the sheer lack in quality of the eyes. If he asks to keep the eyes, you should focus on keeping the quality of them from the original, because it looks worse like this then without them at all. The same problem happens in this one >>1696720. Try adding the pupil and making a gradient like in the original.
Requesting this if it hasn't already been done before. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the effort anon. As for changes, the biggest one is that without a jawline, it looks like her head and neck are blobbed together.
Like the other anon said, the lip is a small issue, but the eyes aren't as big a problem for me. i think they look nice, but if you want to enhance them It would be even better. Thanks again.
Interesting way to do it. It is unfortunately not 100% perfect since it still causes that weird bug where the color underneath peeks out very slightly, like in clipping masks. Still nice to use versus clipping masks, in certain situational conditions.
Still seems to happen when I export it. It is more obvious the greater the color contrast is of course.. Again, very small, but still a little annoying.
One on the left is just with the shape builder, and the one on the right is the green extended past the blue very slightly.
That's bizzare. I'll have to pay close attention the next time this pops up for me, because I remember this exact thing being a concern of mine, but it never seemed to be a problem once exported.
Actually, I just figured it out. I went to the end of your tutorial and read how you export and noticed you use Art Optimized (Supersampling), which seems to fix this particular bug.
However, I generally do full size vectors that include lineart, so I have to use Type Optimized (Hinted) as it applies anti-aliasing around the edges of shadows and lines, otherwise all of my lines would be jagged. It might not be as obvious in a minimalism images, but if you start adding shadows and zoom in close, you should be able to notice aliasing issues around the shadow lines.
If you test exporting that Mareep that included the shadows, export each one alone at 300 PPI, one with Art Optimized and one with Type Optimized. On the Art optimized, you should noticed some aliasing issues on the shadow lines, but you won't have any weird color peeking at the clipping masks/shape builder. On the Type Optimized, the shadow lines should look smoother, but then you get the color peeking at the clipping masks/shape builder.
So, fixing one issue creates another, unfortunately. Depending on the situation, one may be worse than the other.
don't know if anyone is here but i'll /r/ this
This guy >>1696984 again. For one, you may want to use http://i.imgur.com/0NY8N0L.jpg as a better source. It should help with the eye details.
However, even with a proper gradient, the eye still looks out of place without the full combination of eyebrows, eye folds, and a nose. This example is with it fully colored to show how much more the expression elsewhere effects the eyes.
I may seem overly pedantic, but the eyes are an important focus for me, and if it lacks quality, they really shouldn't be there in the first place. The OR will probably be fine with it, so I guess you can ignore this message anyway.
OR here. That does look a lot better anon. Thanks for teh continued effort. This anon >>1697283 posted those eyes and I think they look wonderful. It would be amazing to have those incorporated into your model. And I want to thank both of you anons again for the effort, everything is looking really good.
Welp, that just looks incredible. You've done fine work anon. Thanks for your patience and skill!
You seem to have filled in a few spots that weren't supposed to be.
You really need to clean up a lot of the hair. I know you really want to copy the original as much as possible, but the messy painted hair does not translate well into a vector. It is better if you smooth it, especially the hair around the bottom and by her neck.
I don't know if anyone wants them, but I just made a few NHK wallpapers
Any1 have this one with a transparent background?
Because the minimalism style uses the fewest details possible to get the point across, and eyes are a detail that is rarely necessary and difficult to really minimalize in general; they tend to look weird if you reduce their colours, and if you keep them full-quality it can clash pretty badly with the rest of the image.
It can obviously be done, like on >>1697412. My personal opinion is to try to do the eyes, and if I can't get it to look good, I would leave the eye outline in, especially if it is nicely detailed one. This is an example of one I did a couple threads ago that I liked how the eye outline turned out, in that regard.
In the end, it just depends. Minimalism is so subjective that you can do whatever the fuck you want with it. It isn't like legit vectors where you are trying to keep it as close to the original. You get to fuck around with whatever you personally like.
Yeah absolutely, to each their own. I personally don't like the way >>1697412 looks at all because I think gradients in a minimal image are terribly out of place and ruin the whole feel, but that's just my opinion and I certainly can't force anybody else to agree with it; I'll simply continue making my images without gradients and that's enough for me.
requesting without all the stuff on the sides
I'd like it to have better background please.
I wanted to know what you all thought of my drawing.
It is less case by case and more person by person. Again, there are no real ingrained rules that must be followed. Do whatever the fuck you want, and fuck everyone else. Just expect someone might criticize you if it looks like shit.
As for those eyes, if it didn't have a gradient, it would look like pure shit in my eyes. The OR likes the final ones, so the change obviously appealed to someone.
Last thread died, reposting request again here.
Whether you want to remove or keep the background style, I don't mind (it was screencapped from a transitioning ED so it's incomplete, though)
Posted it 18 days ago but the old thread died, so re-requesting this please.
http://imgur.com/KJXdxpB Can someone put this on the bottom right corner of this http://imgur.com/8xlb0vl pretty please!
Holy shit do Moeka please. There are minimal wallpapers of all the future gadget lab members besides her. Thank you anon!
All the added on stands can be removed if you want.
i know its a bit late but here it is. if you need me to change anything i can.
can anyone give this a minimalistic look ? thanks a lot!
Took forever to find a Sabagebu scene I liked.
Why did everyone just stop putting the backgrounds to the render (or vector, whatever its fucking called)
They aren't wallpapers without a background.
>inb4 "but u can easily just put a color there"
Because putting it up with a background is stupid. There is a high chance someone will want a different color, or want it at a different resolution. It would be easier to just provide the vector alone, at a much higher resolution, like 300 or 600 PPI. Then it can be resized to fit any kind of resolution and have whatever color/gradient/design they want.
i wasn't sure if you want the color scheme to be exact from your picture or from the show it self. I thought it would look better from the show, but i can change it if you would like or anything else.
Bonus points for a slightly darker shade of red but not ugly dark
Messed around with the transparent Kumagawa and made a couple backgrounds.
First off, you do not want to try to create vectors in PhotoShop; it is not designed for creating vectors and they look like shit because of that. If you want to use an Adobe program use Illustrator, if you want a freeware alternative use Inkscape.
Second, check out the tutorials in /w/'s very own, long-running vector thread here >>1695568 they will do a great job of explaining how to work with the programs and the methodology of creating vector traces. All you need to do is skip the linework part they all start with and jump straight to coloring.
As far as figuring out what details to omit and which to keep, where to put dividing lines to define a chin from a neck or an arm from a chest, that is 100% up to the artist doing the work, there are no rules set in stone there are only things that people think look good, so experiment with it, see what you think looks good and do it that way.
I am very opinionated on what I think makes a good Minimalism vector, but that doesn't mean I'm right, so I won't even bother telling you what I think.
I'm seeing some gaps already.
Good thing to take advantage of is the order that your outlines go in. Whichever ones you trace out later, those are the ones which will appear on top. You can use this to draw out general shapes for objects going under, then use precision to separate the two along the border. You can avoid gaps and save time.
Hell, you can do this just by right clicking and bringing things forward or back.
A changed color theme of a wallpaper i once found here.
If anyone wants to fix the borders etc. I'd be grateful- I tried my best, but graphics aren't really my speciality...
Doesn't look to hard, I'd simply do the whole thing black and add those lines on top depending on either what the original had or where I artistically feel they would be. Obviously you'd think of it in terms of light hitting from one direction.
I tried it. I think it turned out okay. Obviously going to have to do a better picture for a final draft but otherwise...
Well you won't be able to get anywhere near the same results unless you use something more sophisticated. I hear Inkscape is good which is completely free.
Protip:
piratebay
buy it.
You use the pen tool and kinda drag it around, press alt to see how that works. Go to the vector thread they have a good tutorial on using Illustrator there that I used to get me started.
I've pointed out a few errors here.
Magenta circles are just a few places where it's really obvious your edges look like shit, likely an export issue.
Red circles are errors in your linework.
So I worked with this differently than all my previous attempts. I made a custom preset of 9 colors and simply let Adobe Illustrator give it a minimalist look. Took like 9 seconds to make.
I went in again this time did some screwing around but this way is much faster than tracing by milestones.
