Very basic tutorial on how these are made:
requesting, please and thank you~
I'm trying my hand at this, how am I doing so far?
Would it be possible to get this one of Nio done? Just the character art, not the complicated back drop. Maybe just stick the model on the far left or far right of a 1920x1080 solid color backdrop. Sorry if that's a little specific >.>
That is probably why it is appealing, since it is much easier.
Doing full vectors is too hard or takes too long for some people. Doing these minimals allows them to avoid all the hard work and make simple vectors with no outlines and basic solid colors. It is that fact that it can be done quickly and with relative ease, that it flocks to people, kind of like renders.
I also think its kind of lazy... at least most of the time. I personally perefer those with at least two shades per color. Better even three if the material allows it.
<- This is the original
<- and this is my take on minimalism
I ised three shades of rad for the hair and 2 shades for the cloth. The eyes are a gradient
Except you still aren't doing it right. Your shapes are messy and have too many nodes. The hair ends are poor and don't all have sharp points. The shadows and the base colors are conflicting, and you have areas sticking out everywhere. Not to mention you fucked up the colors and made it look nothing like the original, or Momiji.
You basically made a very poor attempt at creating a vector with no outline and edited colors.
It wasn't a request, but this is my first try at making a minimalist wallpaper. i know its not great, but what can i do to improve? and are there any tutorials on how to make these?
What makes something a minimalism wallpaper is more up to debate. It generally doesn't have eyes and takes basic solid colors for each section of the drawing. Some add shadows or gradients, depending on the person. It is basically a simpler image.
It is more important that you learn how to use the pen tool more than anything. You need to learn how to make sharp points for the hair, and reduce the amount of nodes you use.
The vector thread has a tutorial that can help, but it is more suited for doing full vectors versus these minimal ones. It still helps teach the basics for the pen tool though. You can also google for the pen tools features to help get you started.
I don't see why the process matters? Its the end result that matters, and if it looks good then why would you complain about them being "lazy." I don't really view them as lazy, just easy.
Made it myself, very proud, first one, same with the vector.
Here is a brighter version without the subtitles.
And here we go, whole thread derailed because one guy doesn't RTFT.
Requesting. Excuse the image size, it's the best I could find.
I'll do this, and then maybe this (>>1687449).
This would look better without the white on the skin.
You'd think this would be obvious, but if a source image is cut off on 3 sides you can't put in wallpaper res without it getting cut off.
It is easy and anyone can do it. That's why I started. Before hand all the minimalist wallpaper threads were filled with ones made by the same 5 or so people. It's easy, but not a lot of people do it.
This wasn't anime related the first 4 times.
>Whole thread derailed.
Looks the same to me.
Could I get a minimalist Asuna with a light blue background or something of the sort?
I haven't done any requests in here for awhile so I figured I do some
Requesting Sinon please! Preferably with a teal background.
Requesting this, preferably 1080x1920.
I tried it myself but it seems I'm too incompetent for this shit.
If you are using the pen tool in PS, Ai, or Inkscape, then every time you place a point, it is called a node. That node can be smooth or sharp, depending on what you decide, and you are given handles to adjust the shape accordingly. Having too many makes the surface rough and clunky as you have more nodes to manage and conflict with, and that's the biggest issue for your image. The hair around the top and around sharp points is rough, the eyes are rough, the furballs are rough, the mouth is rough and all the shadows are rough. Basically you don't know how to use the pen tool yet and need more practice with it.
I don't usually do minimalism images, but I did this to show how much smoother you can make an image like this. I didn't bother with the shadows though. Threw it on a random pink background so you could see the hair easier.
Also, don't fuck with Momiji's hair.
Not the OR, but thank you very much anon.
Can it be done? Requesting please
Could someone make this one with purple background?
i added shadows and thought it looked pretty nice, like a patchworky sort of effect. i'll post the one without on its own too, do you want the bag in it or no?
You're using too many nodes and not smoothing them out, resulting in the lumpy edges. Also try to be more consistent, like for example you smoothed the node of the left of the tie, but you made the right one sharp. Check pic related so you can see the difference in the edges.
i didnt know what color to put the background. let me know what you want
Google says it's a cat[genderunknown] from HunterXHunter. According to the wiki, it's probably a dude.
I am yet to see a single character from that thing that is as female as it looks.
I'll take it on, but before that, do you want facial features too? Because if not, it's just a head, really.
Would you also want a black background? Because then it's really just a floating head.
Not the same guy, but my two cents. Practice. Know where to place nodes and use handles to your advantage. Always try with the most minimal nodes as possible. Always make a node, and see how far the handles can take you, before deciding to add another one.
Basically, just know that the more nodes you add, the more conflicts you will have. Try to minimize them and manipulate the handles as I did. You will get the hang of it the more you practice.
Decided to make a minimal of this manga out of a few of it's existing wallpapers.
facial features would be nice. And background do what you want. what looks good on it
first attempt as well, so many good ones here, and decent images to practice on too
I kinda like the rough shapes. Reminds me of pic related that a guy on /vp/ was making. Throw a paper texture on that and it could actually be a pretty cool idea for a new wallpaper style.
It would be nice if someone could vector this for me.
Could you make this into a minimalist version? Ty
If you zoom in, they shouldn't be.
This is what happens with larger images, they look blurry when zoomed out, but at full size it looks perfectly alright.
It's a bit big for a wallpaper, so resizing it would do well.
Great. Here's another background color I found suitable.
Requesting in 1920 x 1200 if at all possible please
Man, hands fuck up big time when you lose shading
Pretty bad. You skipped out a lot on the hair, and many hair points are not that sharp. The rest of the image is not as smooth as it should be. The quality also isn't the greatest. I don't know how you exported it to make it look that way.
Here is how the hair should be drawn, and how to utilize the pen tool to do so.
This is also bad. See the image to get an idea how to use nodes to smooth at all the sharp points you have in the hair.
Make sure you're utilizing your handles to the fullest, unless you're making a sharp curve or point, never move the handles or delete them (more than a few degrees)
If you can't reach the desired location without moving the handles, redo it until you can. Handles are there to help you not get shitty edges.
Try to remember what the vector is going to be used for, very shallow strands of hair will not scale down correctly. Think of the picture you're copying as an extremely detailed reference for your project. It's not 100% absolutely necessary to copy it pixel for pixel. If you have to make a minor adjustment to make it subjectively better, do it. (Thinks like making hair strands thicker or leaving them out all together)
As for the rest, they're mostly just points where your lines are too sharp.
Dont know why it's so blurry, saved it as PNG24
Of course it looks fine on your phone, because you aren't zooming in on it like a wallpaper.
If you are doing it from Illustrator, don't export for web. It looks like shit from Illustrator. Just export it normally at 300 PPI with "Type Optimized (Hinted)" and then resize it. You can also open the Ai file through PS as a Smart Object and adjust it there and it should look fine.
Different guy here.
It depends. Minimal vectors are weird since they don't show much sense of elevation, or changing between objects, such as a shirt from a collar, or wrinkles/folds so you may want to use a sharp point to show a transition. For the most part though, keep it smooth, especially for round objects such as breasts, tops of heads, and shoulders.
I made a pink one too because there was far too much white
I prefer this version myself, albeit not as high res
My first time trying a minimalist or using the pen tool, also working with a broken finger :/ requesting critique/tips & tricks.
Feet and hands are both bad. The hair is also clunky and not smooth.
You need to minimize nodes and maximize handles to smooth the hair out. The hands and feet need more nodes to differentiate between separate toes and fingers.
Also, for future reference, give a link to the source so we can better critique what you can fix from the original and possibly show you what it could look like.
Finished this up a little bit ago. How does it look?
Here is the original image http://www.jaykristoff.com/images/pressStormdancerUS.jpg
You only need to do it where you see fit. Even though I said that, if it looks strange to you when you do it then I would just leave them out.
On a side note, I didn't mention that I do love the shadows on her sleeve, even though they server a difference purpose, it makes the image have some depth to it and it looks good.
Thanks a lot, It was my first try and my main finger is broken so i couldn't really use the handles too efficiently :/ This is the source tho(Sorry for the white background, I'm in a hurry and couldn't find the actual original file). I'll try to smooth out some of the edges when I get better.
I know there is kinda alot of detail, but if anyone wants to do this I'd be grateful.
If someone would be kind enough to make Ms. Ayanami into a minimalistic beauty it would be greatly appreciated.
Can anyone make a minimalistic thingy with this please?
Bit of a scrap in the background I fixed.
Requesting for fruit milk. Character's a blondie fyi.
might be kind of hard, but requesting this, with the additional request that the main part be placed to the right. I'll link a wallpaper I have with the optimum placement.
the placement and rough size of Rei here is what I wanted. It works perfectly with the nexus 5
This is my favorite wall. It'd be cool to get it in minimalist style, if anyone's interested.
I would love to have this made into a beautiful wallpaper by someone who is better at photo manipulation than myself. :3
I had one more request, if its not too much of a pain in the ass. If nothing else, the image size should be sufficent.
Requesting for this if possible.
Some of that School Days goodness, please.
This is my first time making an image into a vector, too lazy to look at tutorials and i'm not that familiar yet with photoshop, did I do it correctly?
Requesting.. If you decide to take up this one, Id like a plain black, or dark red background.. Please, and thank you.
Requsting with neo zeon logo please and thankyou!
I always thought this would look good in a minimalist style, but it'd have to be done right
any specific color you want?
First time making anything in a graphics editor program, any criticisms?
Clunky, especially the hair. Less nodes, more handles.
Also, for the love of god, you guys need to stop posting with backgrounds at 1920x1080. Just post the vector separate at 300 PPI/DPI. It makes it much easier to critique when there isn't some annoying color melding with the image or not being able to zoom in on it. You can always export it later once its fixed with an appropriate background.
requesting a nonon since i am not artistically skilled watsoever. any resolution is fine
can someone please vector the hair for me? its being a real pain in the ass and i just cant do it. much appreciated
it got late so i decided against doing the feet, i might finish it up some other time.
Requesting Tokisaki Kurumi. Thanks guys.
If you're the requester you can remove that in microsoft paint. Just copy a different part of the flat purple background and cover that "watermark". If you're the requester thanks for letting that guy know he probably didn't see it.
