does this shit use emulation or is it ported?

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

I'm comparing to using the built-in nes emulator on the everdrive gba and it seems like the same experience...
>>
It's emulation.

wow that's such garbage, can't believe nintendo sold them for 20-30 dollars when they came out, and people are still paying that much or more
>>
>>4258581
some of them have a few "extra features" but most of them are straight up roms with nothing else. And yeah nintendo has always been pretty fucking greedy, but blame the people who buy this stuff.
>>
>>4258594

If anything shouldn't you blame the people who download this stuff?. If there was no demand for old school shit with roms Nintendo would not be under the impression it has any demand.
>>
>>4258604
Certainly part of it. I would imagine the cost of a manufacturing run also factors into the pricing of these since e-card versions of nes games were a couple of bucks at most (plus e-card adapter though).
>>
>>4258569
>>4258581
>>4258594
They used fucking PocketNES, they didn't even develop the emulator.
>>
>>4259558

source? I'm not being a smartass. Just want to read up on this.
>>
>>4258594
>fucking greedy

yeah man

how dare a business try to make money

bunch of jewing greedy bastards for trying to make money
>>
>>4258594

>but most of them are straight up roms with nothing else

Nintendo is pretty fucked up. Stealing from the internet and selling shit to the people. Imagine if Nintendo came up with this idea back in the 80s?
>>
>>4260406
not him, but I can confirm that the games run exactly the same on pocketnes as they do on the gba carts down to the little glitches and inaccuracies , so it adds up
>>
They're all emulated. The ROMs appear so large because I'm pretty sure Nintendo inserts a bunch of garbage data, or uses several duplicate copies of the NES ROM to bloat the filesize for whatever reason.

>>4259558
No, they don't use PocketNES code. PocketNES is frankly quite shitty compared to Nintendo's in-house emulator. Although Nintendo's emulator supports only the mappers used by the particular ROMs they ported, the emulation performance is markedly improved over anything you'd be able to achieve with PocketNES. Not to mention there's way better graphics scaling.
>>
>>4259558
this is true
http://bootleggames.wikia.com/wiki/PocketNES
>>
>>4259558
>>4260820
Getting a bit mixed up there.
While what that article says about some developers using PocketNES is true, it doesn't specifically mention which developers/games, here's a better article that does have the full list :
http://www.gutenberg.us/articles/pocketnes

As you can see, Nintendo is not there. Who knows if they actually looked at Pocketnes's source code while designing their own though.

What is true is that there's at least one confirmed case of Nintendo using a scene release for one of their NES VC games, so I wouldn't put it past them to do the same thing for these GBA releases.
>>
>>4260845
And I should learn to read the shit I post more carefully.
Reading further into the article,

>Nintendo filed for and was granted a patent on the vertical scaling method used in PocketNES in 2002, despite PocketNES's using it in 2001.

So they stole that much, doesn't say anything about whether the rest of their emulator is stolen or coded from scratch though.
>>
>>4260814
It's more that the rom has a minimum filesize for technical reasons. If you look at a rom dump for genesis games, you'll see they are all consistent filesizes depending on the original size of the cart. The extra data is simply endless zeroes.
>>
>>4260845
Man if this is truth Nintendo is really shitty, do other companies have stories like this one?
>>
>How dare Nintendo use someone else's dumped roms and/or emulator
It's their property. I'm not gonna say it's not a lazy move, but it's their fucking property.
>>
>>4258594
>some of them have a few "extra features"

That's neat. What features did they add?
>>
>>4261481
cutting out blinking strobes lights effect
>>
>>4261481
>>4261510
They also fixed up the engrish in The Legend of Zelda. The same rom is used on that GameCube Zelda collector's disc and the Virtual Console releases.
>>
>>4261471
The roms are their property, the emulator is not.
