the great debate. REAL HARD.- SOFTWARE OR EMULATOR AND ISO?
Emulators encourage cheating by having fast forward and save states options.
>>4255782
There is no discernible difference in performance. I won't hear arguments to the contrary - there is NO difference.
Emulation saves space and money for software you probably already bought decades ago anyway.
No contest.
>>4255785
Easiest way to 1cc the best titles.
>>4255786
Dreamcast emulation is still pretty bad tho.
>>4255818
it's good. you blind or have a shit pc
>>4255786
not all chips and systems are emulated to 100%, you stupid spastic
>>4255785
>save states options
But they fix bad design decissions.
>>4255786
this is it for me. I got all the fucking consoles, and I HATE console. I was one of the biggest console kids in my city (berlin) and now I hate how much space and effort it is to play a fucking retarded console. My PC does and should do everything. TV sucks. I don't want a fucking TV in my apartment. I can'T keep all the shit clean and running. Consoles are the worst garbage of humanity after HTML and CSS. It's a coorporate commercial hostage system. Fucking asshole companies don'T even care about games. Lots of games are lost on console, because they were only made to print money. Capitalism is a sick cancer. So yeah, thank you emulator gods, thank you for saving so much unique art and joy!
Emulator.. if it actually properly emulates the fukken' system and doesn't take a degree in compsci to set up.
>>4255782
Emulation because I can't be arsed to have a bunch of consoles and games anymore.
Real hardware is more accurate and more authentic
Emulation is more convenient and cheaper
A person's preference is largely subjective and I emulate more than I play on real hardware these days but what boggles my mind is when people seem to think they're SUPERIOR for emulating which I am already getting the stink of from a couple posts in this thread.
>>4255782
It's no debate, just do what you like and don't worry yourself over what others do. Only idiots and manchildren care.
>>4255937
>but what boggles my mind is when people seem to think they're SUPERIOR for emulating
It's mostly backlash from hardware purists. Around here saying you prefer to emulate opens the troll floodgates so now they expect a fight when bringing it up.
>>4255785
There's nothing wrong with using "fast forward" in games.
>>4255782
Hardware is generally the best option because sometimes emulation is just shit, like we see in the N64, Dreamcast, Saturn, etc...but sometimes emulation is better because developer brain fart.
Further, remapping buttons, etc. can be an extremely useful option. There's also fan translations of Japanese games.
>>4255937
>when people seem to think they're SUPERIOR for emulating which I am already getting the stink of from a couple posts in this thread.
Yeah it really sucks when people do things to make themselves seem special and important.
>>4255952
There's always been a fairly even balance between hardfags and emufags on /vr/ and currently the emufags have way higher numbers and I don't see much sign of that changing.

Playing with real retail games actually is objectively superior though. You can have the subjective debate of if that marginal superiority is worth the much greater cost but you have to accept that to a lot of people, it is. Feeling superior for having less money and less space is such a 4chan type of thought process though I can't totally condemn it though and I actually have to agree that if I were getting into the hobby right now there are very few games I personally would consider worth actually owning retail copies of.
>>4255968 #
I don't get it
Comparing software and emulators is a tricky one for me. Depend on the case.
On one hand, software is obviously stable. On the other, emulators can use the software to force higher resolutions.
>>4256010
I'm not sure you can see in those webms, but the Windows version works better. But that is when both run at 640x480, which is also the limit for the Windows version.
I could force the PS version to a higher resolution which as you know, is a gamble. But in this case, makes it look better than the Windows one.
>>4256016
Well, hopefully some day you will be able to write a proof on which is scientifically more fun to play
Real. I have many consoles and most of the games that I really want. That being said, I do really need to get some flashcarts.
>>4255785
Fast forward and save states improves on bad design.
especially with shitshows in gameplay like ActRaiser2
>>4255786
For 4th gen an older I'd agree with you, but most of 5th gen's (and newer) emulators still need a fair bit more time to mature.
Except for the GCN/Wii. Dolphin is fucking incredible.
>>4256343
I'd say GBA emulation is pretty good too.
>>4255782
I dont look down on emulation, heck, I emulate most retro games I play, its the only way I can enjoy them without paying few times the game worth and filling some resellers wallet. There is nothing wrong in emulation.
However, I cannot deny that playing real games on real hardware feels different, moremagical.
>>4255865
Not at all. They can barely do transparencies right
>>4255812
If you practiced using save states, you haven't 1cc'd legitimately.
>>4255782
Both. Whatever suits you best, just enjoy playing.
If I can get it for a decent price or it's a game from a series I care about enough to want physical copies then I'll go with real hardware. If a game is horribly expensive (like Snatcher) or I just have a passing interest in it I'll emulate it.
Both are good and have their own benefits.
>>4255785
pokemon wasnt fun til i could play it at 1.5x times speed, its simply snappier and better
>>4256615
still better than a bunch of retarded collectors creditfeeding pretending they know shit about retro vidya
>>4256623
>>4256623
This.
The best part in physical games were the manuals which are almost impossible go get nowadays so go crazy downloading entire libraries, it makes no difference for you or the developers.
>>4256048
I was just trying to keep on subject with what OP intended.
I don't care if you emulate or play "the real thing".
If you're bothering to compare both versions of the same game you obviously like it to the point of doing so. So there's no need for the irony there.
How good is the Sega Saturn emulation?
>>4255782
Real hardware. Emulation is fine but it isn't at hardware level accuracy yet and my autism won't accept that.
>>4259746

You can't emulate a high end DOS game and have it come out right.
I know that sounds counterintuitive, but it is what it is. There was very specific hardware like MIDI wavetable sound that just isn't the same unless you have the real, actual hardware.
