It's true.

They aren't as much of a hassle if you get down to their level as soon as possible. They can only attack in an arc upward, so putting yourself at the same height as them helps.

I never got why people are nostalgic for this game. I group in the NES era but played it after the fact and never really got into it at all.

Me too almost, I played it like six months ago I think. It was interesting and fun. It felt old of course, but still surprising, because it's one of those NES games that are actually old enough to predate the normal formulas for NES games. Some of those feel clunky once you've played Mario 3 and Mega Man 2 and such, like Ice Climbers for instance, but some of them are just weird and cool, like this one.
