Is it possible to take the output from something like a SNES mini (HDMI) and feed it into an old CRT monitor?

I think I could get it all to fit with various adapters but I'm guessing there's not going to be a 15Khz signal at the end of it unless there is circuitry somewhere in the cable?

FUCKING WHY
>>
Delete this embarassing thread OP.
>>
>>4248383
If it's VGA, it's very simple.
>>
>>4248391

Are you fucking retarded? I bet you are 12.

How?
>>
>>4248730

so are you suggesting that using for example MAME on a PC LCD monitor is better than feeding it into an old CRT?
>>
>>4248725
says the 15-year-old.

Not him, but are you seriously confused about why he's hassling?

>>4248406
There's nothing in the HDMI standard about analog video. I keep hearing people say "No reason HDMI can't do analog", but *can* it? And if so, explain which devices to use.

>>4248736
No he's saying that while 15kHz is great, turning a higher HDMI res back into 15kHz is kinda retarded, kinda expensive, and will lag like shit.

I use one of these, works fine.

You use a DAC you idiot. Literary $5 investment.
>>
>>4249635
Still not analog HMDI, but i see what you were getting at now. So the next question is, how does he get 15kHz over HDMI? Or do you have another whiz-bang device you're going to suggest he add to the signal chain?
>>
>>4250072
oh dear, I'm the retarded one. Somehow i read CRT monitor as 15kHz CRT. Those HDMI2VGA devices are about as good as it gets, but it'll still be laggy compressed junk, won't it?
>>
>>4248383
Why do you wish to do this?
>>
>>4249549
do these work better than the shitty dongles like
>>4249635
I have an old CRT but no VGA output and it can't handle high refresh rates through the dongle

You'll need a little conversion box. They're cheap, about 12 dollars.

Pic related is the one I use.

I actually have it hooked up to an HDMI matrix, with the console plugged into an Elgato HD and plugged into the matrix as well. That way I can have the game on both my modern TV and CRT, while also streaming to Twitch and such. Very handy.
>>
>>4249537

That's why I'm fucking asking! I didn't say hur durr amma gonna do this coz I'm fucking amazing. I was asking if it's possible.
>>
>>4249549

Yeah but that'll output 31Khz, right?

I need 15.
>>
>>4250814
OMFG are you the OP? IF you've got a 15kHz CRT you should have said. "CRT Monitor" is synonymous with a PC CRT equals 31kHZ+

So it turns out i was right, see >>4250072

>>4250810
Assuming you're the 3rd tag, then yes, the LCD would be better than taking HDMI and trying to turn it back to analog and 15kHz. Each of those two steps will lag and screw with the picture quality to boot, so that in there end there's not really any point. There are ways to get analog 15kHz straight from a PC, and that's far better than the LCD option, IMO, though it takes a lot more effort.

>I have an old CRT but no VGA output and it can't handle high refresh rates through the dongle
We are talking about retro gaymes here, you don't need more then 60Hz.
>>
>>4250078
>but it'll still be laggy compressed junk, won't it?
It's no RAMDAC but the lag is this thing produces is sub-millisecond territory.

I am OP. Read my original post again. I say (or at least imply) I need a 15K signal.
>>
>>4250274

This is just composite output though, right?
>>
>>4248383
>an old CRT monitor
Sure. Just get an old CRT monitor that has HDMI input. inb4 babies wail they don't exist. They do.
>>
>>4248383
>>
It's pretty funny that you feel this will be any more of a retro experience than just buying an old SNES and plugging it into your CRT.

This is worse than a little retro gaming box with emulators and is much more complicated to set up.
>>
>>4251959

That's likely untrue, do you have any source for that?

Converters are not at all built with video games in mind and, for instance, three frames of input lag means nothing to the manufacturer.
>>
You should just use a regular SNES and an Everdrive. Like $75.
>>
>>4254985

I'm after 15K for the scanlines though. I doubt you'll find a 15K or a multiscan with HDMI.
>>
nevermind niggas I see it's going to be very hard to pull off.
>>
>>4256649
>i don't actually know what i'm after
Well there's yer problem. 15khz doesn't mean scan lines. I've never of a CRT with HDMI that wasn't multiscan. Sounds like what you need to do is turn on your scan line filter and put some sort of prosthetic on your LCD to give it a curved screen and 4:3 look. Maybe you could house it in an old console TV that you smashed the back of the CRT off?
>>
>>4257153
>i don't actually know what i'm talking about

Keep spouting those memes, mommy will be soooo proud of you

Yes it does.
>>
>>4257729
>>4257818
It's September kids. Summer is over. I know you babies are too young to remember analog TV and consoles that did 480i but that doesn't mean you should even fuck off back to /v/. Do your homework and go to sleep. It's a school night.
>>
>>4257153
>15kHz doesn't mean scanlines

Show me ONE 15kHz monitor that doesn't exhibit scanlines. Just one.
>>
>>4258471
>all this projection

About 90-95% of retro console games output 15khz progressive. You're referring to 6th gen and a handful of 5th gen games.
>>
>>4257153

wtf are you talking about nigga?

scan line filter? Jesus christ don't be a fucking disgusting.
