What are some official arranged soundtracks for retro games you can think of? The older the better.

Here's Mario Syndrome from 1986.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esG6R43N78A

I'll be posting other favorites later. Share whatever ones you like!

Just be sure to post only official releases, not fan-made stuff, and possibly, stuff released during the /vr/-related years, of course.

But I seem to remember maybe there was another arranged soundtrack for SML?
Super Hang-On also has many different arranged versions.

>>2746235
The arrange was made by the same person who did the Gameboy music? Very nice! I can hear it's not from the /vr/ days (the arrangement), but it's nice that people who worked on games 15 or 20 years ago still come back to their old music. I personally think the original is much better there though, very pretty chiptune, never played that game.
>>

That is cool as fuck. How does one go about finding cool old vintage video game music vinyls like this? The only one I have is an Atari Asteroids record, but this is fucking awesome.
>>
>>2745696

Now that you mention Super Mario Land, which one did you meant? I know of 2 official arranged Mario Land soundtracks, one by Ambassadors of Funk (which is more like a single), and another one released in Japan with actual SML BGM arranged music by "Mario Freaks Orchestra", that one is pretty good.

The Jin brothers are weird, it's like they came out of something like Dragon Ball.
I like Jin's theme better on RBS or FF3.

And speaking of DB, I think the reason I like JIn's theme so much is because it also reminds me of the music on Super Butoden 2, which also has a 10/10 arranged soundtrack

Most Dragon Ball games had great soundtracks, Kenji Yamamoto was great doing arrangements.

He also released arranged albums for most of the games. Super Butoden 2 is probably my favorite work of his, Butoden 3 is also excellent.

Here's a track from the arranged album of Super Gokuden, the ending theme with vocals.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XSQl_owR6k

Singer is Kuko, who also did other vocal works for Yamamoto and Project Monolith on the Hit Song Collection CDs, which are a must listen if you like the DBZ vidya music.

This ending theme is rather nice but there's better tracks on the album, they're just not on YT.
It has nice suite arrangements like on the Butoden OST.

It totally isn't Pink Floyd's song. Only the bassline resembles it, and only at the beginning of the track, the progression is different.

I know about the whole plagiarism thing and even he seems to have admitted it, but I still think he's a god-tier composer and arranger.
>>
>>2751694
it was not uncommon to have composers be inspired by or tributing 1 or 2 RL track and remake them inside their game, it still required effort to adapt to the hardware. Yuzo koshiro did it and still love the sound. Also back then no one cared for vidya from japan, butouden 2 wasn't even released in NA.
Problems began for yamamoto when the tech was more streaming focused, he became more and more copycat. DBKai was the nail in the coffin.

Exactly, that's why I respect Yamamoto.

I'm only familiar with his 90s works though, the vidya music, the Hit Song Collection albums, and of course, Cha la head cha la, which was actually not composed by him, but he arranged it.

Super Mario World is definitely one of my favorite arranged albums. It's such a fine record, the fact the melodies in it are nostalgic for me is a sweet plus, but the music itself is top notch.

This thread's been pretty great, but I think I need more from the SEGA side of retro gaming, since I guess I was a Nintendo kid growing up and never had a Genesis until very recently, but SEGA had some badass soundtracks.

Thanks so much for posting this! I'd totally spaced on the Space Harrier theme, even though I love it to death.

I'm pretty much just asking for SEGA music because I'm volunteering at a local convention next year as part of the 'entertainment crew', and they wanted to set up a Rock Band booth, but it's a retro games convention, so I offered to make Rock Band customs of a ton of classic video game songs/covers, and I want to accommodate for as many different styles and tastes as I can, including the (very prominent) older gamers that showed up last time who had an Atari 2600, and of course the Genesis fans too. Plus it's going to be the background music of the whole event, so I really want people to experience some kind of joy hearing tunes from their favorite older games being enjoyed by young and old alike, even if it wasn't something I grew up on.
