where's the faggot who said he would post pics of the umihara kawase guide ?
also umihara kawase thread. is it the best snes platformer?
>Bionic Commando for pedos
>good
>is it the best snes platformer?
Nah, that would be Castlevania 4 or Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts.
How did this go from obscure 6/10 oddity to every hipsters favorite game?

Australia-kun pls go and take your poopy taste with you.
What was your reaction when PSX was announced? (let's pretend to not know 99% of /vr/ wasn't born yet)
Getting' real tired of the age Olympics
>be oldfag
>guardian of /vr/
>notice youngfag trying to discuss video games from before their time
>ohhellno.jpg
>readjust trilby and leap into thread, katana drawn
>(there's no actual katana, but bear with me, it's a metaphor)
>"RRRREEEEEEEEEEEEE YOUNGFAG RRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"
>the plebeian youngfag stares at me in disbelief
>"How dare you shit up my board! These games are sacred to us, not to be sullied by the likes of you!"
>"b-but..." the youngfag stammers, moronically, "I like old v-video games..."
>I scoff at him, euphoric in my superior age
>I remind him that he must only like old video games because it's trendy, and that e-celebrities told him too
>"b-but..."
>remind him he will never understand what it's like to be a "true" retro gamer in the '80s and '90s, sexless and ostracized socially
>the youngfag, his thread sufficiently derailed, hangs his head and leaves in shame
>i shit myself and proudly bask in the fumes
>"Thank God that /vr/ has proper retro gamers like me to ensure only *quality* discussion"
>I proceed to start an Genesis v.s. SNES thread, only oldfags can truly appreciate
my first console was a famiclone, when I was a kid I tried out Mario64 in the store and my reaction was "this is boring, why do I have to walk everywhere, I want the other console" and that's how I got my playstation
don't remember anything about announcements, but I do remember the playstation being the talk of the playground
hey guys. im packing up all my shit and moving from the midwest to the west coast for a new job. if any of you have similar experience with moving a retro collection i'd love to know any packing tips or things that'll make the process go smoothly with as minimal damage as possible. we've hired a moving service to take care of all the lifting and shit, then we're flying there seperate, fyi.
i'd be interested to know how to wrap/pack consoles with what materials, how to pack jewel cases vs dvd case style games vs cib cart games, etc. how to pack controllers and fight sticks, shit like that.
ive got about 20 consoles including non retro, and roughly 500 games, 60ish controllers/peripherals.
thanks in advance for any help guys
oh also, if anyone is interested, i have some extra consoles that are either broken or i dont use them anymore. i'll give them to anyone for free if they just pay the shipping/packing costs. they include two ps1s (launch model and later model), a psone (broken, but modchip included lol), broken snes, broken super famicom, and a working wii (homebrewed and ready for retro emulation, etc). if anyone's interested i'll make a gmail to do business thru.
just feels wrong to throw them away solely because theyre broken. someone might be able to fix them or use them for parts, and i just dont know anyone that'd want the working stuff.
I dont have nearly as much stuff as you. But i move quite often. Only stuff of mine that got broke where figurines that where gifts and i didn't care for that much anyway.
All in can say is i bought heavy duty plastic boxes with good lids on for moving and just stored everything in those. Cheap plastics ones will break.
Also ebay is good for getting rid of broken stuff.
>>4175069
what part is broken on the psone? if the laser is still fine i'd like to cannibalize it since the laser in mine just died.
*** Calling all light gun anons ***
Anyone got one of those 3rd party GunCon 2 knockoffs made by Yobo for the PS2?
How does the setup work? Is it like the original GunCon 2 where you need an extended cable to get it to function? 'Cause that cable is next to impossible to find, and people bid out the ass for it when it pops up on eBay.
My Nyko Super Cobra gun won't work with Time Crisis II, although the game advertises it being compatible with original GunCon. Fuck... I just want to practice my skills at TCII.
>>4175025
then why not get the original guncon instead?
Well, I forgot to add that I also want to play Time Crisis 3.
Any particular reason you can't just use one of these and any old RCA cable to act as an extension?
Just got me a working 1001 model PS1. What's the easiest way to play burned games on this thing? Do I have to install a modchip?
>>4174964
yeah
The easiest way to use is with a modchip. Just werks.
The cheapest way is with the swap trick. Jam the lid sensor, boot one game and at the magic moment yank the disc off and cram the burned game on
Cheat devices and discs are a step between, simpler to "install" but basically just make the swap trick easier to perform by giving you a "press a button to continue" window to swap discs.
>>4174989
They also stop you pulling the spindle off the CD drive, busting the bearing and putting a scratch right through your disc when you get it wrong.
That said, OP should ditch the 1001 immediately for a 5501 as it's vastly superior in many, many ways.
best addon ever
It's pretty clever from a technical point of view, but it was obsoleted by a combination of disc piracy and cheaper ROM chips rather quickly. The entire library (even though containing some groundbreaking titles like the first Zelda, Metroid and Castlevania) is actually surprisingly small compared to the amount of ROM cartridges.
Still, Nintendo turned quite a profit, being the hardware manufacturer, belt replacing aside.
>>4174357
How does piracy make it obsolute?
It was a milestone. Without it we may not have flash carts nowadays.
Does anybody know if the clone can play TRUXTON, VALIS 3, MERCS, ROLLING THUNDER 2 or DEATH DUEL properly?
After some research I discovered the Firecore can't play any Street Fighter game. TechnoCop doesn't load. Aladdin has serious sprite errors and Road Rash crashes.
Post your findings guise...
>>4174279
OP here. In case you ask, I discovered I had a brand new boxed Firecore in the shelf. Got it for 9 dls 6 years ago, but never used it. I just tested it and the thing works. I plan on getting some games, hence the question...
>>4174305
ATGames stuff is trash dude. If you want a good bootleg Genesis get one of the HDMI MegaDrives from Aliexpress, they are much better.
>>4174279
That clone is trash. Sound quality is utterly fucked and frame rate isn't too good
best console version of lemmings? snes or genesis?
Philips cdi
>>4174203
I have Amiga 500, CD32 and PSX versions and they all have similar loading times.
I'd so with the SNES but don't expect nice prices
Opinions?
Sry bro, never played it
I loved it even though I knew it was shitty while I was playing it. Nightmare Creatures 2 at least gives you a payoff for slogging through all that clunky early 3D beat-em-up gameplay.
It's been over a decade. What I remember were two protagonists one was a priest, I wanna say, the other was a girl so I didn't play her. The priest was named something like Ignacius. I also remember years later when we got the internets finding codes to play as the monsters. A fireball shooting flying imp sticks out the most.
Excluding the Dreamcast was the Megadrive/Genesis the smartest console design for its era when all factors are considered?
Decently clocked 68000 CPU with a full 16 bit data bus (unlike the SNES's gimped 8 bit data bus) with a Z80 co-processor was smart as fuck for 1988. The 68000 CPU had great instruction sets and with a fast data bus it was versatile as hell. It also meant you could get by without a lot of expensive ram nor an expensive graphics chip.
Z80 co-processor handled talking to the FM chip so the 68000 didn't have to give up processing power to fuck with that and as a side bonus this also gave it backwards compatibility for master system games.
Cut down FM chip meant again less ram and less cost (because you don't have to store samples) but in the right hands could still turn out badass music.
For something that was first released in 1988 and that only cost $189 on launch day in 1989 in the U.S. the Genesis really was impressive as fuck in terms of smart hardware design.
>>4174083
>1988
>61 colors (4x15+1)
No.
Even worse, the VPD itself actually supports color expansion, but Sega didn't connect the VDP expansion lines to the cart slot or expansion slot.
>>4174105
Compared to other console's weaknesses 61 colors is pretty minor, especially considering the other consoles that could theoretically display many more colors rarely ever did in game.
>>4174083
The Genesis would have definitely have been one of the smartest console designs ever had its expansion capabilities been thought through better. But I agree with your general points. The fact that the 1988 Genesis can equal or exceed the 1990 SNES in terms of power was a very significant achievement.
That being said, when defining what is 'smart' console design you need to establish some parameters since each console may have been designed with different goals in mind. For example, by the relative raw-performance-per-manufacturing-dollar metric the N64 would be the smartest console design of all time. But that design came at a cost of programmer-friendliness and storage medium space. And so on.
Has anyone ever brought vidya and it had a strong smoke smell?
What is the best way to get rid of the smoke smell?
You cannot.
>>4173872
worked at a used vidya store for a while when i was in highschool/college. cigarette smoke stains plastic. it's horrible. try cleaning shit with soap and a toothbrush. i don't know of any chemicals that can be used to neutralize the smell.
Start smoking
Post pics of your Atari 2600. Games you like to play. Horrible games for it. TV's you use with yours. Basically anything Atari 2600.
> Told 2600 is cheap
> entered rediculous snipe of $40 for Flashback 2 with AV ports and cartridge port switch
> ends at $47, where the fuck do these rich people come from?
> went to local retro store
> standard 4 switch woodgrain = $66
> Sears Tele-games system = $77
WTF is happening?!
>>4174195
That's still cheap as hell compared to anything Nintendo. Once you have the console, finding games for <$5 is ridiculously easy.
>>4173864
>Games you like to play.
Joust is the fucking shit, even if it's not as good as the arcade version
What retro game do you wish you were good at?
Probably bullet hell shooters or really just shmups in general. They seem like they'd be really sweet to get into the groove on but I just can't.
>>4173747
I love Galaga 88 but I always end up pissing myself off when I fuck up getting the triple ship on the first stage.
>>4173747
Fighting games.
What are some good retro fighting games and why is Virtua Fighter 2 the best out of all of them?
>>4173556
if virtual fighter's so good why does no one play them?
>>4173556
Fighting Vipers, Virtua Fighter, Tekken...all good fighting games in the 32 bit era. The first game I owned on a Sega Saturn was Virtua Fighter 2. I knew of the arcade game & that's what drew me to buying this game.
>Watch GC:CX episode on Dynamite Heady
>Arino gets two game ending soft-locks in 36 minutes
Wow. Did they bugfix these for the American version?
Maybe you should play it and find out idiot.
>>4173512
If you want a GCCX thread, you just need to ask for it.
>>4173512
That was really weird, I played the Japanese version all the way through and never got those. Maybe the game cart had dirty connectors.
