I've tried to get into it many times ever since buying it back in 2001, but I simply cannot force myself to enjoy this game. ALttP and OoT were Zelda bliss for me, but there are so many things I dislike about this game.
>feels like a cheap fan game with reused assets and models abound
>most of the tool items are recycled from OoT and the new ones aren't very interesting
>most of the masks do very little, and the transformations just aren't fun
>I get that Link returned to childhood at the end of OoT, but playing as young link again feels lame.
>the time system is unique but extremely restrictive and forces you to repeat the same tasks over and over
>gone are all of the tunics and boots
>the world is much smaller as a whole, and doesn't feel nearly as inviting, particularly Termina field
>dungeons aren't very good and too few in number
It did have some things going for it. I like the story, the world feels very alive, I love that different things happen at different times of day, and I'm glad they had some monsters to kill in Termina field, but outside of that, the game feels like a fucking mess. You get less of just about everything compared to OoT, and there isn't enough new content to justiy what you lose, and you constantly feel rushed to complete objectives instead of being able to soak in the world and explore. In many ways, MM is simply the opposite of what makes most Zelda games so fun.

>feels like a cheap fan game with reused assets and models abound
I've never understood this one. Tomb Raider, Spyro, Crash, etc all did this for their sequels but when Nintendo does it in MM people call it nothing more than a ROM-hack of OoT.

>I've never understood this one. Tomb Raider, Spyro, Crash, etc all did this for their sequels but when Nintendo does it in MM people call it nothing more than a ROM-hack of OoT.
First off, I'm not talking about any of those games, I'm talking about this game. I'm not a particularly big fan of Spyro or Crash either. But the biggest issue isn't just the fact they reused assets, but rather that they literally put the same characters into the game, with the same names, but gave them entirely different personalities. The game is supposed to take place after OoT and yet Link ends up encountering all of these identical people in a totally different part of the world? The fuck? It was a lazy design choice in every way.

>The game is supposed to take place after OoT and yet Link ends up encountering all of these identical people in a totally different part of the world? The fuck? It was a lazy design choice in every way.
But is it really more lazy than meeting the same characters with the exact same personalities like a traditional sequel?
Places either long gone or still hanging on, this is where we honor them.
It still hurts
Namely the forums. It even generated DUR BUTTER, which shortly found its way over to 4chan back in the mid-2000s.

Title says it all
Also do you prefer the n64 game library or the ps1 game library?
So, is it about graphics or game library?
Graphics is N64, although it depends on the game, sometimes PS1 can look really good, and N64 can look really bad, but N64's highs are much better than PS1's highs.
Game library would be PS1 by default simply because of more quantity and variety, however, if I rule out multiplats, ports of arcades and only focus on exclusives, I might prefer N64 actually.
Graphics: N64
Games: Ps1
Games: PC
Graphics: PC
Also, not this shit again, this isn't gonna stay objective for long. The only game I really like playing on the PS is Harvest Moon: Back To Nature, I prefer it to N64's Moon. That's about it. I really like N64's Goemon and Bomberman games though so I would say that it has better exclusives?
As >>4160852 said, the PS has better games counting ports and multiplats but the N64 might have better exclusives depending on your preferences.

This thread is for the spirited discussion of CRT displays - Televisions, monitors and projectors used for the playing of retro games!
>Try to keep it /vr/-related: Nothing past 5th gen(+ Dreamcast). Slight OT might be okay if related to CRTs (E.G. 16:9 compatible models, flatscreens, etc.) Systems with backwards compatibility are also pretty safe territory, assuming you're focusing on the older games. PC CRTs are also a-ok.
>Produce OC! Get out your real cameras and take beautiful pictures of your CRTs displaying recognizable characters with the kind of beautiful accuracy that brings tears to the eyes of young and old alike! If you take 100 photos, at least one of them will turn out alright! (maybe)
>Try to be as detailed as possible when asking info on a specific model. As always, google is your friend, and we are your friends with benefits. Older archived threads aren't a bad place to look either.
>Share appreciation for others choice of technology and personal philosophy of gaming. As always show courtesy in your discussion and moderate yourselves first.
Discussion of video processing and scaling devices is okay, but try to keep the focus on CRTs and CRT accessories

Which is better Csync or Lumasync?
>>4153479
They're most likely just SCART cables with built-in sync strippers for displays which only support CSYNC.
Get them if your display supports CSYNC.
>>4154117
If it's playstation, go with sync-on-luma. If it's anything else, go with composite sync
letting the third parties off the leash began the process that is currently killing video games. so thanks for that
nah, giving the west budgets to do anything but shitty movie games and pc cuck shit is killing video games. I think we can all agree segregation would be for the best.
>>4178392
Yeah let them get their own water fountains
>>4178390
Nah, it saved us from having to endure Mario 4356 and Zelda 63454, so yeah thanks Sony.

god fucking damn it
2010 is so retro bro
>>4178159
lol dude im totes gonna wait 100 years just in case it goes free, then i can totes flip da bird to everywun else, STATION
>>4178186
This is a remake of a game from 1999, which obviously you haven't played.
I remember "beating" the game, and by that I mean getting to the credits, but now I realize that apparently there's an entire part of the game I missed including fighting dracula and SHAFT? what did I do wrong
>>4177724
It's called Google you philistine. And to think you killed a thread for this shit...
>>4177724
why are you using this board like it's fucking google or gamefaq?
>>4177727
>And to think you killed a thread for this shit
???????
Really, WHY!? Once people figured out how to use certain sectors of the Dreamcast's Copy Protection System as a vulnerability to seamlessly burn copies of games, piracy became rampant rather quickly. Why didn't Sega take time to patch it up with a more complex Copy Protection mechanism in later models, anyway. They didn't have to make it similar to the Saturn's, just have, say Dreamcasts shipped after mid-2000 have a more robust checksum and/or digital signing system. That, and maybe also do something to better promote the NGPC link cable device.
Because then the original Dreamcasts, aka 85% of the installed base, couldn't play the new games
It wasn't as rampant as you'd think. CD burners weren't particularly common at this point.
>>4177478
>couldn't play the new games
How so?
Anyone have a vid that show exactly how bad FDS games sound on a Everdrive N8? Does it matter which Everdrive you are using on NES or Famicom?
>>4176916
EDN8 doesn't passthrough expansion sound unless you've modded your NES to support it, or use a correctly wired adapter on a Famicom, for the record. That said, the hardware in both is exactly the same, so no it doesn't matter.
>>4178718
>or use a correctly wired adapter on a Famicom
It doesn't work out of the box on the Famicom? Also does this only count for FDS audio or Famicom expansion audio?
>>4178723
Sorry, I should have been more clear. The Famicom version works out of the box on a Famicom for expansion audio (FDS and other supported expansion sound chips). If you use the NES version on a Famicom, the converter you use needs to be wired to pass expansion audio. Most cheap chinese adapters won't, but the adapter Krikzz sells does, it's like a resistor and an extra pin that needs to be wired correctly.
okay /vr/ lets talk Harvest Moon. I have only played 64 and i liked it alot and am looking at one of the gameboy entries for my work commute. Which one is the best?
>>4174909
Harvest Moon GBC3 is the best.
You can play it twice even, as the boy cares for the farm and the girl cares for the animals. You can't choose your wife/husband but it's not a problem, the protagonists are pretty alright.
If you plan on playing them all, play in order as each entry improves on things.
>>4174909
>>4175534
Also, the GBA one is a portable version of the PS1 game. One of the games with the most content of them all.
that's pretty cool! I look forward to it while I'm sourcing a rom thanks wise anons.
What do you think about Killer Instinct Gold? Call me crazy, but this is one of the best console fighters I've ever played. The graphics are pretty unique, the controls are solid and each character is different yet well balanced.
Loved it as a kid. Haven't played it in over a decade, though, so I can't really speak for it anymore.
I know I've always mained Glacius, but I think I played Tusk, Spinal, and Jago a lot. I liked Fulgore but I sucked as him.
>>4174415
Yeah Glacius is pretty badass. I love Spinal, even though I initially hated him. I like pretty much all of the characters honestly. Jago is a fucking beast, his AI rapes me all the time on the higher difficulties.
It looks like shit, they replaced the beautiful fmv backgrounds with memepolygons.
Versions aside though the game is pretty good, I like it better than the first because the combo system is simpler and more consistent. The new characters are lame though, I liked how the cast of KI1 was mostly monsters.
I've only played Galaxian (I think it counts), Galaga and Galaga 88. What is your favorite in the series?
>OP here
>Forgot to post favorite
>Kinda baked
I used to like the original Galaga more but I don't know, 88 has some pretty visuals
NES one is really good beside the Arcade version.
>>4174138
Galaga 88 of course
I'm planning to buy Link's Awakening for 3DS Virtual Console, but only DX is available and I liked the original more. Should I buy DX?
Seeing as it's 99.9% the same exact game, yes.
DX isn't bad. I'll list the differences for you, and let you decide.
>DX added the optional color dungeon, and colored tunics
>DX added the photography side quest
>DX changed the stone slab dungeon item to the stone beak
>DX made the Genie boss a bit easier
>DX features a different ending screen
You can read up on all of the minor things here.

>>4172956
Ya. Almost identical but added another dungeon. Good game.
what is the most fun, arcade, styleish, gotta go fast ps1 racing game?
I imagine its one of the ridge racer games, but which? I want something with high framerate and duriftos.
ridge racer type 4
the only 60 fps game without considering CMR cheat or HiFi in GT1 there I can think is the HiSpec RR game
>>4172414
RR Type 4 is all of those. Great music too.
Replace one word in a retro game title with "loli" , I'll start
