I'm interested in trying these games out, would you recommend them? Is it weird that they released Sonic games on the Master System after the Megadrive/Genesis was already a thing? Also, where can I get the Master System versions? Because I don't want the screen-crunch of the gamegear versions.
I recommend the Sonic 1 hack with fm sound

I'm not really a romhack kind of guy, I don't know how to do it.

1 is pretty fucking good, 2 is meh. Don't play them on a gotta go fast mode tho.
First one is garbage today and the second one is pretty good even today.
1. Golden Eye
Shit controls, low fps. Modern gaming has ruined it for me.
2. Strife
Damn good gameplay with some dialogue options. Kinda reminds me of the elder scrolls games mixed with hexen gameplay.
>"Dear Diary,"
1. Strife
Poor graphics, built on an obsolete system, only popular now because of its rerelease a couple years back for hipster late-gen millennials
2. Golden Eye
For it's time excellent graphics and great fps, even in multiplayer. Plenty of strategy in single player while still being fast paced and exciting. Multiplayer continues to be the standard by which others are compared.
>>4174815
>For it's time excellent graphics and great fps
>for it's time
There is your problem. golden Eye is absolute garbage today. That low framerate and how some missions make you shoot with literally just seeing a pixel on the screen is terrible.
>Poor graphics, built on an obsolete system
So like this entire board dedicated to obsolete systems and old graphics?
Hey, im looking for blue-tooth controller for my Rpi. I see this meme, and it seems to fit all my criteria, but im concerned it might be too small.

HELL YEAH! Chunky Kong is my hero

Want to get into more Looking Glass games. Any tips for starting this and it's sequel?

Magic is underpowered as fuck. Use a fighter if you only care about beating the game. Other classes are fun though, but objectively less powerful. Setting it on easy can make up for the low power of more magic-based classes. Also, re-roll if you get shit stats. THIS IS IMPORTANT. You really don't want to start a game with a character with crap stats. Don't underestimate the lore stat, you'll be surprised how useful it is. But most of all, MAKE SURE YOUR STRENGTH STAT IS AVERAGE TO HIGH. THIS DETERMINES HOW MUCH WEIGHT YOU CAN CARRY. THIS IS SO IMPORTANT THAT IT CAN NOT POSSIBLY BE OVERSTATED. IF YOU GET A SHIT STRENGTH STAT THEN JUST RE-ROLL UNTIL YOU HAVE A DECENT TO HIGH ONE.
EXPLORE and don't hesitate for an instant to try anything you can think of. You'll be blown away by how much shit you can do in this game. It makes most modern zillion dollar WRPGs seem severely lacking in terms of interactivity in comparison.
Otherwise, have fun. You're in for one of the best games ever made.

>>Draw your own maps
The game literally has auto-mapping. This is the dumbest fucking advice you could have possibly given.
Taking notes is smart though. You can write notes on the map in-game.
Any good Flea Market Stories /vr/?
Bad ones? So-so ones?
Today I got an Original NES (had already been cleaned inside and out, case has no yellowing and excellent shape overall), the seller had already replaced the 72p connector, and disabled the lockout chip. 5 NES controllers (with replaced membranes), power cord, rf conenctor, 2 Zappers, and 8 relatively common bagin bin games for total $75
>>4173851
Great (((deal)))! Guy sounds like quite the salesman.
>>4173851
damn nice
>>4173851
Not a flea market story, but my NES was from a lady I used to work with who's son killed some woman. Saw her walking home and ran out and stabbed her to death. She cleaned out all his stuff after he went to jail and I got the NES, zapper, 2 controllers for free (plus a SNES with some games).
Okay, here's a breath of fresh air for you all.
I like Sonic Adventure.
It's plot and presentation have aged pretty badly, but I can take it as a product of its time.
The gameplay, controls, and level design however, arguably the most important things when it comes to games, remain timeless for the most part. For every character except Amy and Big (Who are also the two characters with the shortest stories in the game), all my problems with them are nothing but nitpicks. I can have good fun with a few Sonic or Gamma stages when I find the time to.
Same can be said for SA2, except I think everything is overall more polished. Come at me.
Pic related. It's how I felt when I started playing the game for the first time.
I genuinely enjoy SA & SA2 when they're just about fast.
>>4173416
Yeah, and they both have lots of chances for you to do that. The platforming is pretty good too, and something I can appreciate.
>>4173413
I also remember liking SA1 + 2. Granted I haven't played them since they were considered new but I agree with most of your points.
Here's what I would have changed. Should of just been Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and maybe Shadow(I thought he was pritty kool). His campaign could of been unlocked later. Fix the knuckles levels. They were shit and the music they gave him was shit. Should of all been like the the Sonic levels. Fast 'n' fun but tailored to that characters skills. No character talks. Plot is simple and moved by quick cut scenes like in S3&k. No cities or other people present other than Robotnik. No big over world where you run to the next level. SA2 did that part right.
That's all I can think of for now. Feel free to add or adjust any of my changes.
How much did it cost to make a game on NES, SNES, or Genesis?
I was playing pic related, a new-ish game on Steam but in the style of an old arcade or Genesis game. On the forums the dev said it cost $6,000 to make and was done by only a couple people. Obviously newer programs exist now to make it easier, but back in the 80s and early 90s how much did a Bionic Command or Altered Beast cost to make, does anyone know? They were usually made by small teams too and were pretty simple in concept so I can't imagine it was a lot of money.
Steam indie games don't have marketing or production costs for retail stores and shelving space
Literally the most these retro indie losers have to do is send keys to streamers or YouTubers
I remember Tim Stamper (or maybe his brother) said in an interview that they were pumping out games for licencees on the nes for 50000 gbp a pop. This was late 80s or early 90s.
>>4173119
>retro indie losers
Who pissed in your cornflakes?
This bitch has no moves
Ps3 has no games
She's got too many moves in 7. And they're all hard to do.
>>4172760
You obviously don't play PS3 then. There's plenty of games.
What stat am I supposed to upgrade to avoid losing health when wearing too much heavy armor? I can't quite figure it out.
Other than that, I got used to the dumb controls pretty quick and am enjoying the atmosphere & (above all else) creature designs in this game.
How big of an improvement is it over King's Field, anon?
>>4172603
I've barely played the first King's Field, never played 2 and 3, only played 4 significantly. The first Shadow Tower seems very far from having the best mechanics out of all these games, but I still want to experience it just because the visual presentation is my favorite out of any From game I've played so far.
Some people say the controls are unbearable but if you emulate it you can easily change it so that it controls the same as KF IV on PS2. I didn't, though, if only for the novelty of playing with pretty dated controls.
>>4172654
Actually to add to this, I mostly mentioned the mechanics because a lot of people seem to have huge trouble with this game, a lot saying it's pure garbage and not worth playing if you're going through the old From dungeon crawlers. I've yet to encounter the supposed horribleness of the mechanics; weapons breaking has not been a huge problem for me, I got used to the controls pretty quick (and can be easily reconfigured to fit more modern tastes if you're emulating) and the more annoyingly punishing elements are really not
Maybe it gets absolutely unforgiving later but so far nothing is particularly wrong, even close to the point of being game breaking. I've been playing all day and I'm up to the point where I just killed Duhrin and revived Auriel.
should i go back and replay sonics 1-3? i dont remember too much about them, i just remember really liking marble zone
is pic related correct?
>>4171842
Sonic one is a masterpiece
>>4171842
how the hell are these games youve only played once? they have much replay value.
this one is more correct
What went wrong?
>>4171183
You making this thread.
Consumers like plug and play.
All addons to every console never did well.
Darxide looks rather impressive. What exactly was this thing capable of? I've always wanted one for shits and giggles, but they're like $40+ online.
What are some retro games that make you feel uncomfortable /vr/?
>those dreamlike levels
>that "serene" music
>that fucking shark
>levels set in the sky
Parasite Eve 2. Dryfield has this weird unsettling atmosphere to it, particularly at night. Also, fuck those camel things.
>>4171180
I remember almost nothing about this game, except there was a crystal ball or something that kept breaking. Pissed me off.
>>4171180
This game scared the shit out of me as a kid for some reason
Aside from the awful voice acting and annoying load times, is this game really THAT bad?
Note: I'm only talking about Zelda's Adventure. I'm not asking about the other two CD-i games.
Awful graphics aside, is the core gameplay really all that different from the first game? I've never played it, but the combat and the top-down exploration look very similar to me.
It's fucking shit, mate.
