What leak/dump are you still hoping for?
Seeing Infinity getting released after all these years and a new completly unheard of N64 game pop-up just yesterday got me thinking. What is still out there? What are you hoping for?

Personally, I am still waiting for Katakis-3D to be released. It is out there, we have a working cart and the devs were looking to release it, but it's not here.

Also, the finished version of StarFox 2.

With so many shitty games already I don't understand why people want to play something so shitty it was never finished or finished and not released.
>>3478896
If you count unfinished games, it's a shame that Garou 2 was never released.
>>3478926
Betas, prototypes, anything.
This is something that really fascinates me about retro gaming. Lost and unreleased games, though you find similar cases basically everywhere else too.
Can we get a good ol' RE thread going? I'm currently replaying Code Veronica. Which one is your favorite, /vr/?
1. RE1
2. RE2
3. CV
4. RE3
Nemesis is my least favorite just because of all the backtracking through similar looking alleyways in the first half. It gets much better once you reach the clock tower.
>>3478797
>Which one is your favorite, /vr/?

I'd love to see a Code Veronica remake with a better script and voice acting. Alfred and Alexia had a lot of potential as villains but the Dreamcast era voice acting really killed it. CV has a lot going for it though. Probably my overall favorite RE soundtrack.
What is /vr/'s experience with the PSOne?
>>3478749
Pretty nice and portable.
>>3478749
I wish I had one. Ever since I saw that commercial I had the itch but to this day I was never able to scratch it.
>>3478749
It was nice having one, replaced my normal PS1 when it broke. Missed the multi-out a bit though.
Why aren't you using PGXP for your emulation needs?
I use more accurate emus most of the time. When not using those, I play with ePSXe PGXP but not much.
>>3478725
i only use mednafen psx in glorious 240p
that looks fucking terrible though
What's an old pre-'90s game that you assumed was simplistic and didn't age well, but turned out way more fun than you expected?
For me, it's picrelated. Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-Kun, turned into Renegade in US. It's kinda short but so damn fun.
This was the game I bought with my NES when I was a kid because I confused it with RCR
>>3478712
Same series (Nekketsu), same creators.
How did you do in the game? At first it seems really clunky, but once you get the hang of jump kicking, throwing and beating the opponents on the ground, it becomes much more smooth to control.
>>3478707
What, no one? That's sad.
Another game that really caught me off-guard was Gradius. Expected it to be as basic as possible, but it's pretty deep when you learn to play it.
Is it worth playing the first Parasite Eve or should I just skip to the second?
>>3478563
It's actually a pretty different game.
I'd say no, don't skip the first.
The first is considerably better. I couldn't even finish 2.
2 is better by a thousand miles, its gameplay is more action based. 1 has interesting story and gameplay but it feels very dated in comparison.
Still worth playing though.

Does this look right?
>Does it look right to you?
Never owned a SNES or played CT, that's why I'm asking.
>emulators
Regardless, it looks good, anon.

Whats this whats going on in this thread
is there somewhere a tutorial for getting mame to work in retroarch? mame standalone has no crt shaders
>>3478505
>not using Google
>retroarch
>shaders
anyone?
>>3478505
You need a romset that matches your version of mame.
Hey /vr/ I was curious if you guys wanted to try something out. This is just testing the waters, but, I figure it could be a neat idea en encourage people to play video games.
So you guys know about book clubs right? Everyone reads a book and comes back a month or so later to talk about their feelings of the book and shit right? I figured it could be neat to try something like that with video games. So roughly thinking the format could go like this:
We put up a strawpoll of suggestions from this thread. We vote on it, and then depending on the size of the game we give a week or month to play through it and then at the end vote on another game and discuss the one we were just playing with one another.
Of course, no one could be interested in this, this is why I'm making a thread before the fact. I just think it would be a really neat idea to create discussion, if you guys were up to it anyway. Anyway, let me know what you guys think, I'll check this thread in a few hours when I get back from working.
It's been tried before. It worked for one game then nobody could decide what to play next.
>>3478430
>>3478386
The idea gets tossed around every couple of months.
Problem is no one can decide. It's the same thing with the /vr/ gauntlet. Theres a shitload of just bad and what most would consider borderline unbeatable games (without exploits, and or investing a shitload of time and effort into getting gud at really stupid bad games)
You can try, and if you organize it I may even participate, but be prepared for very little interest.
if we're to do this we would have to document it well. use webms and screenshots. which i'm willing to do if this gets off the ground. i might even do some art for it.
What were your video game rituals when you were a kid?
>when mario destroyed a switch palace I would stand up and stamp my feet around with him
>in DKC when winning a bonus room would stand up and throw hat in the air and catch it like diddy
>in part 2 would mimic him dancing with the boom box
>>3478336
>when you were a kid?
Or he was a kid having fun
>in mario 3, on the map for water world, when using the boat to get to the islands for toad houses, my brothers and I would chant "boat boat boat boat..." each time mario moved in the boat
>we would continue to move around in the boat, chanting along for about a half hour before we agreed that it was time to continue playing the game
>>3478328
You're a weirdo.
What's the best way to get old PC games running on newer tech? I managed to snag a copy of The Dark Eye (horror point and click style game done to the works of Edgar Allan Poe), and I'm confused as hell in regards to trying to get it to work. DOSBox works, but apparently is not able to work with the game itself. That or I'm just stupid.
A second topic for discussion, what are some really good old school horror games you have found memories of?
It varies case by case. Just search for the name of the game plus the name of your OS.
>>3478228
That's like asking what's the best way to poke yourself in the eye. Dosbox is probably the easiest for most games. For a few others a VM works better. None work anywhere close to as good as a free machine dug out of the dumpster.
Never tried The Dark Eye on dosbox but the first two google results for the dark eye dosbox explain how people have done it. You didn't give your definition of "newer tech" though so maybe you're trying to do it on a smart watch or something retarded.
Phantasmagoria is a classic.
There's no easy way at the moment. I remember looking forward to building a virtual machine with windows 3.1 and 95, but it turns out that they don't emulate a lot of the hardware used for games.
DOSbox is good but you'll probably be messing about with a lot of frustrating text files.
An ideal solution would be to emulate old windows, so that you get to see the file icons and stuff, as it was experienced. But the software isn't there yet so I ended up focusing on consoles instead. Hopefully someday they'll be a retroarch for PC games.
Post and suggest monster collecting games.
[/spoiler]no pokemon
have fun
The ones I played were shitty. People say they like Jade Coccoon on the Playstation, but I didn't get the fun part of it.
Then there's Monster Seed. God, there is Monster Seed. That game was awful in every single way.
And to a lesser degree, there is Guardian's Crusade. You get one monster to train up and it's an ungrateful dick of a monster that deserves to be tossed in a river in a knap sack filled with bricks.
>>3478104
Pic related is definitely my favorite. They way you generate monsters from cd's was unique and had me and my friends raiding our parents' collections of shitty music to find rare monsters. There's also tons of different monster combos you can get through breeding, and lots of unlockables as you progress through the game. The battle mode is also really fun so the game has that going for it as well.
I also like Digimon World for more of an adventure feel, though its less about collecting monsters there's still an element of skill involved in getting the right evolution. There's a lot to do in the game but the battle system is a little boring.
Your opinion on Crash Bandicoot 2
Best game of the original three
>>3478087
Preddy gud.
We can all agree it's a perfect game, but what gave it such a retro feel?
Being on SNES?
Your nostalgia?
>>3478062
The only way it has a "retro feel" is if you didn't play it when it came out. If your only other experience prior was nes or master system games it felt like the future, not the past.
Also, I wouldn't say it's perfect but it's pretty damn good.
Game: Save and hold reset before turning power off
Me: k *does the thing*
Game: lol now all your data's gone lmao
Read that carefully, numb nuts
>>3477719
Why was this allowed?
Perhaps the cart's battery is going.
