Try to think of a RPG you love, where do you grind and why?

I often used Junon Forest to grind for Limit Breaks in FF7. These Jetbird things hit often but not hard at all yet raised your meter quite a bit.

I've got one that I picked up for £5 cos the woman thought it was a CD player. It came with Liberation which makes no sense to me. I also have a disc of 100 Amiga 'classics' which is just Commodore 16 games... I really don't think anything 'decent' came out on it. For me, it's just an oddity that I picked up hella cheap.

Does anyone have experience with this thing? My results with component output do not match the quality output from other people online using an equivalent vga output. I think the problem is this thing implying a sharpening filter.

Darn. Neither does the internet. There was a guy here a couple of weeks ago who bought one and said that he was going to post the results when it arrived.

I guess I'll have to go the expensive route and buy scart to component to play mame authentically.

If I were putting VGA into a project enclosure that had component outputs and having trouble I'd probably try using crt_emudriver, soft15khz or even the defauly drivers to feed it a 15khzsignal. That's assuming I had a VGA cable and a DC power supply plugged into it. Maybe 12v? 5v? I'd probably start with 5, both tip polarities then move up to 12... Maybe at 500mA to start. I mean, I've never been the most cautious about plugging my jacks into mystery boxes but better safe than sorry amirite?

Essentials:
>Original Doom trilogy (Ultimate, II, Final)
>BUILD Big 3 (Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, Shadow Warriow)
>Quake (Quake II is very decent but not as good, wouldn't call it an essential. Quake III for the greatest arena shooter mp ever made)

Also be sure to check out fan expansions for these games which in many cases have far surpassed the original games. For example check out Scythe 1&2 for Doom or Death Wish for Blood. Doom's fan made megawads are just about the greatest single player FPS experience you can have 2bh. There's also so many of them, too, it's brilliant. You will NEVER run out of shit to play. Check out the official expansions for the games as well, Duke Caribbean is meant to be very good.

Pretty much everything else is optional. You can try other stuff like Half-Life + Expansions, Unreal, or bollocks like Hexen/Heretic if you just wanna see what boredom plays like in 2.5D FPS form. You can try Wolfenstein and Blake Stone if you wanna see pre-Doom FPS. There's also RPG poop like Deus Ex and System Shock if you for some reason enjoy the shit gameplay mechanics that come with every RPG. There are some N64 shooters like GoldenEye and Perfect Dark that aren't bad if you don't mind the old control system. Turok 1&2 are okay, whatever, and have PC releases. NESfag will tell you about Powerslave and Redneck Rampage Rides again. Actually if you like NAM that much most of this shit will probably blow you away. Glhf.

Why can't modern shooters/physics engines recreate how fast and fluid Doom, Quake, Half Life 1, etc. felt?

Same for 2.5D vs 3D RTS games.

The sprites for MM7-8 are much larger comparitively than their NES counterparts. Devs thought more powerful console should mean bigger more detailed sprites. but they failed to take into account how this would affect gameplay. It gives smaller screensize so less time to react to enemies, and it makes the gameplay feel slower and more sluggish.

These are the Mega Man sprites for 7-8 compared to "Kaizou Choujin Schbibinman Zero", which is a far better Mega Man game than those two. It keeps the small sprite size of the NES Mega mans.

Castlevania did something similar. Super has a huge Simon Belmont sprite, and the gameplay is slow and sluggish. Bloodlines has a very small sprite with fast gameplay more similar to the original NES series.
