Because of faggy babies like you the series is now absolutely braindead with zero challenge.
>>3578143
Pokemon single player never ever had challenge, vs has always been the only reason to put effort into raising a strong team.
>>3578143
Pokemon was challenging when you were 5.
Quite possibly the best retro FPS I've played in all my miserable life.
I need more games like this on ps1,N64 or Dreamcast, I would ask Saturn either but it just died on me last week. Also Turok thread
>>3577909
Doesnt even need to be retro. Turok 2 had customizable ammo, weapon classes and a much better hit damage system than shooters of period like quake 2. For some reason i prefer the firsts very dreamlike atmosphere. Too many speaking characters break the fourth wall for me; like in unreal 2.

>Too many speaking characters break the fourth wall for me
wtf

You ever listened to the Gameboy's soundtrack, it's the best thing ever.

someone found a snes prototype of rayman, /vr/
>>3577845
That "someone" happens to be Rayman's creator.
this is actually pretty damn amazing
>decided to move the project to the new CD-Rom consoles
Such as the Jaguar.
Aren't reproduction cards just pirate bootlegs?
Yeah, fancy ones but bootlegs at the end of the day, they aren't licensed copies.
What made you think they wouldn't be?
>>3577805
They are legal as long as you erase the EPROM after 24 hours.
>>3578064
this. or if you own the original and you're just making a copy for yourself.
>Play old game
>Increase resolution
>HUD takes up less screen space, can see more of the screen, wider field of vision, camera is zoomed out more
>Play modern game
>Increase resolution
>Hud gets scaled up, visible area is the same, only the graphics improve
This is something I thoroughly hate about modern games. I have a rather large TV and by God I intend to use it, but someone somewhere decided that we should not have massive viewable areas on-screen.
>>3577804
Honestly, I feel kinda the opposite way.
I use a medium-small monitor.
I want play some older games in res larger than 800x600, HUD gets small.
Sometimes so small, that its hard to see things, important things that HUD it supposed to show, like health or ammo.
However, I understand your sentiment.
I dislike big HUDs that restrict your view.
Ideally, modern games shout give you a separate option to scale/customize HUD to your liking.
Do you want just see your health and ammo? Done.
Additional skills and their cool-downs? Done.
A list of quests and objectives? Done.
Map and compass? Sure.
A motherfucking chat so you can see players calling each other faggots? Here you go!
But for fucks sake, don't make me see all that cluttered bullshit all the damn time without an option to turn this shit off!
I want to play a damned game!
How an I supposed to do so when I cant see a simgle fucking thing on the screen!?
>>3577804
Well, old games will get fucked up at 4K while modern games won't.
>>3577829
Then don't put it at 4k, put it at 1080p.
Preferably without third party fixes
Unreal Tournament is a good one (barring the FPS glitch some newer computers have)
>>3577597
UT works fine with the updated openGL renderer
It'd be easier to compile a list of games that don't run on modern PCs.
Anything from gog basically
>>3577602
>It'd be easier to compile a list of games that don't run on modern PCs.
True, most Windows 9x games are still compatible.
Here's a few more:
>Jazz Jackrabbit 2
On Windows 8.x/10 it lags in fullscreen mode.
>Age of Empires 1/2
No problems
>Starcraft
Works fine
>Quake 1/2/3
>All Unreal engine games
(they even run on Windows NT 3.51, but some need rendering fixes to look/play well on newer PCs)
>Re-Volt
>Carmageddon 2
>Descent 3
>Baldur's Gate
Just ordered a flashcart, and while I'm waiting for it to arrive from Poland I'm putting together a list of backups that I want to put on in. See anything essential that I am missing?
(full disclosure - I own a copy of every single revision of every single n64 game released in every single region of the world and I'm only looking for legal backups to obtain online to put on my legally purchased flashcart)

What are all of the advantages and reasons for getting an Everdrive 64?
+ Free Games
+ Saves are backed up to SD Card
+ No need to swap cartridges
+ EntireN64 library and more on one SD Card
+ Built-in GameShark
+ Menu Backgrounds
+ USB port for game development
+ Can play ROM hacks, translations and things like Master Quest on N64
Anything else?
>>3577319
Overwhelming smugness and feelings of superiority
Well, N64 emulation is dicks so there's that.
Personally, I'm ok with not playing the more obscure N64 crap. Like, Goemon 2 might be good but I don't feel it's something I should seek extensively.
Is there any disadvantages to the Everdrive over OG hardware?
Why do videogames of today feel so different from video games of yesteryear? Is it the design? Is it the updated graphics and music? Or is it the simplicity of gameplay that doesn't take from the difficulty that today just doesn't seem to have?
>>3577173
Here is my theory: video games started out with arcade machines, where it was the norm to have to try again and again. This kind of design was carried over to early systems like the NES, where the games were short but pretty difficult and required a lot of re-tries.
>>3577173
It was money
Just like Hollywood, it got turned into shit for profit
>>3577173
Simplicity is easier to get 'right' than complexity. Modern games are so complicated that perhaps too much time is spent on making things pretty than perfecting the fundamentals.
Is there a good wireless N64 controller?
what
>>3577157
Dude, the N64 controller is like some weird development prototype for the general style of controllers we have today. Just buy a PS/Xbox style controller.

Yes. And then you have a shotgun wedding, and you're stuck with that useless npc in your party until she dies or you sell her to slavers
>>3577250
We designed the game so you could also divorce her. You can also pimp her out for lots of caps.
>>3577253
No you didn't.
what are your favorite super comfy retro games?
There's no English translation but it's still so relaxing
>>3578656
The titles Shigesato Itoi's No. 1 Bass Fishing: Definitive Edition btw
>>3578661
Oh, I remember this game. It's cute in a kiddy way..
Sup /vr/, I'm currently at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo. Gonna use this thread to post pics.
Lots of Atari homebrews on display. Mostly 2600, but some 5200, 7800 and Jaguar games here too. (Pic is bad, but there are tons of screens in a U shape. All using really sharp Commodore CRTs too.)
Now this is cool, there's an NES game maker program being demoed. I mean, it actually lets you make NES games. This is an alpha build they're demoing apparently.
Saw Howard Scott Warshaw earlier. It was a pretty insightful talk.
