The character design is the first thing that warns a person about the kind of people that like Trigger. Who would want to be willingly associated with the Toriyama/DB crowd? Well except tasteless retards?
>>

It's funny because I hate Dragon Ball but love Chrono Trigger. Yet you people act like the character designs dictate the game. Pretty shallow if you ask me.

i am currently using meme magic to increase the supply of nes classic editions and eventually burst the bubbel of retro game prices wherein you can aquire a fugging used nes classic edition circa january 2017 for 15 buckeroonis so don't worry :D

People is retarded and unironically think that those things are going to "sold out"

We live in the XXI century where people can get all the info they want in seconds, yet they get scammed for 200 with a emulator box with 4 mb of videogames.

Do yourself a favor. Snip your lockout chip and get a cheap 60 to 72 pin converter like pic related. Suddenly the wonderful world of cheap and plentiful famicom games is available to you. There are loads of great games that didn't get a western release and require no Japanese knowledge to play.

OP, stop. Get an EverDrive. Please. For the love of god. Even a Chinese knockoff Everdrive.

You missed the NES collecting bus. You can't pick up games for $1 out of the bargain bin anymore. Everyone wants NES games. You'll get charged an arm and a leg for anything even remotely good.

Super Mario Bros 3? That's about $30.

Contra? That's worth an insane $50 now.

Help us drive down the prices by getting an Everdrive that can play everything. I know it's not authentic, but trust me. You're saving a ton of money, and it'll put a dent in the businesses of game resellers who caused these retarded prices in the first place.

FF6 was a little bit better experience imo

but Defenders of Oasis for Game Gear holds a special place for me.

A beautifully crafted game with witty dialogues and a lot of charm in every corner of the game.

It is easy but it's not boring, because it is well paced, and the game doesn't let you grind, so you can't be over-leveled. Managing the badge system is what can make the game easier or harder. If you use badge points for HP and general defense purposes, the game will be easy, but you can use offensive ones that will make fights more exciting but also harder. You can leave that for a second playthrough though. Enjoy the ride.

>>
Have one, haven't touched it since middle school.

I actually managed to convince a friend to get one with me after the anime came out, but we where always out of phase, so we either couldn't fight each other or it would be a shutout. There really was a large power gap between rookie and champion levels (never got to ultimate), and taking care of them was a huge pain (when I did get to champion, it was always numemon or meramon, and meramon only when I used the vitamin cheat).

Anyone else use a stick for more than arcade games? I use it for pretty much anything that doesn't require an analog stick. Playing something like Mega Man on stick feels so good.

Have a PS360+ so it works with all my consoles, but I haven't gotten around to buying all the cables and whatnot.
47 posts and 12 images submitted.
>>
Hell, yeah!

Though to be honest I haven't done it in a while because I've been playing games which require analog controls. Last games I played with it were Ys I & II Eternal Complete and Jackal.

One of mine is having pcb troubles, and I need to make the time to swap it out. Probably for a PS2 one since I have adapters for everything else.

I recently played through Oath and Origins again with a stick and it felt pretty great. There's just such a precise and tactile feel to sticks that normal controllers are lacking.

Why is Genesis music considered "chiptune" but SNES music isn't? They both use specialized sound chips to generate music rather than having the whole thing pre-recorded and streamed from the cartridge.

Some people say it's because "SNES music uses samples", but why should that make a difference? Even the NES and Genesis had built-in functionality to play samples. Hell, a lot of Sunsoft games for the NES had basslines that were exclusively made by repitching sound samples, just like the SNES. And if sound samples are what separates "chiptune" from "not chiptune", then we can't consider most Amiga music to be chiptune, either.

You might say it's because systems like the Genesis and NES synthesize most of their sound on-the-fly rather than play short prerecorded samples, but if that's the case then why do we consider TurboGrafix-16 music to be chiptune? The TG16 uses wavetable sound generation, which is also entirely sample-based, just with extremely short samples that only last one wave cycle.

I don't get it. Why is the definition of chiptune so arbitrary?

It's simple actually. The Genesis music isn't considered chiptune.

Nothing is chiptune. Reality is an illusion.

it's the most batshit insane game i've ever seen, but i can't find it anywhere. it's been pushed into obscurity for being virtually unplayable.
>top-down perspective, fantasy setting
>shitload of enemies on the screen at once, none have any movement pattern or predictability to speak of, enemy behavior is completely random
>strains the limits of the platform's graphical limitations, feels like the game could crash at any minute
i can't remember what platform it was, could have been NES. definitely 8-bit with a limited color palette.

Just started playing Equinox for the SNES. So far I am having a blast and have slowly gotten used to the weird 3/4 view and controls.

I am in the second world and so far the puzzles aren't too hard and the first boss fight wasn't that bad aside from one hit being all it takes for me to die.

Has anybody else played this game? Did you play the original? Did you ever get used to how the game is viewed (I find it helps if I sit parallel to the TV and angle my controller's D-Pad so it matches with the layout on the screen)

My first SNES game, loved it despite the fact I never got too far since I was 8.
Still remember dicking around on the overworld after getting stuck and managed to longjump to another world, which didn't help much since it was obviously even harder than the previous one.
>>
>>3615309
I literally just put the game in and started playing, I don't even know the storyline or what all of the controls are but I think I have it figured out so far.

What purpose does jumping have on the overworld? I have only used it to jump into bats so I can fight them.

How far did you get when you were 8? I am almost at the second boss, I only need two more orbs/tokens.
>>
>>3615315
I don't remember how far I got, can't be further than world 2 or 3.
And as far as the usefulness of jumping goes... I have no idea. To avoid enemies perhaps?

Anyone here played the original SMT? I listened to a podcast about it recently and it sounded interesting so I thought I'd try it. I beat Phantasy Star 1 last year so I thought I'd be fine with old JRPGs but this is a whole other level of complexity. Plus since there's never been an official English translation the item/spell names are often inconsistent in the few FAQs and wikis I can find.
I have a pretty good grasp of the basic mechanics but am still mystified by alignments, races, demon fusions, what gemstones do, etc.
I really like the concept of the game and the mechanics seem cool but it's just too obtuse and there's little information out there (in English at least). Should I keep trying to power through, or just give up and try out one of the later games?

There's an official iOS translation, but fuck that.

Is this your first SMT game in general?

Also, just out of curiousity: which podcast?

Played every single one.

SMT 2 is the best, I would also start there. If you still non-vr gaming, then the newer ones on the DS aren't bad either (but don't play until after SMT2)

Thanks! I needed something in case if the drive dies, as I love my Saturn. Unfortunately the only on of my 3 which can use it is my modded (slide switch to change between US-JP) US Saturn. Now I am waiting on GDemu.

saturn drives are incredibly robust compared to playstation. mine is from may 95, and has been cdr modded since 2004, still works perfectly

Damn fine music. Kinda short and easy. Too plot driven.
>>
Love it. Great game.
>>
Easier game that has a somewhat incoherent and rushed plot. The mixing and matching of animals abilities is really unique and interesting but the strange plot and mediocre music drag it down.

It's a decent game but don't expect anything great.
