What was Grahf getting at after becoming a failed contact? He seemed just generally destructive before he decided to go Jesus and sacrifice himself to rescue humanity from a false God...that literally created humanity (at least the humanity which inhabits the game's planet). But what further potential do they have, after knowing they're nothing but spare parts? Aren't they without purpose after Deus is gone? Wouldn't they simply revert to their base parts? Besides Fei, Elly, and the rest of the main characters, is there anyone even left on the planet?
What was the moral of Xenogears? What's the takeaway from all this? I felt after 50+ hours of gameplay the game's story shot me a blank...it's just cruel
>>3638165
What's left of humanity can just repopulate again. I mean up to this point humanity on that planet has survived like so many purgings. Not to mention that without Deus et all around culling humanity they can actually GROW this time.
Any missions questions you have are just a result of pulled budget.
Literally Hitler.
>>3638165
>What was Grahf getting at after becoming a failed contact?
He wanted to Remove Deus, Remove Deus, you are the worst God, you are the God smell etc.
>He seemed just generally destructive before he decided to go Jesus and sacrifice himself to rescue humanity
He didn't have such a noble intent, he was just a fraction of Lacann's ego created out of pure butthurt that somehow became a being of its own. His last second change was him reverting to what little of Lacann's persona was there, at that point he was no longer Grahf. The writer also wanted to pull a Master Asia at all costs, so this is what you get.
>Aren't they without purpose after Deus is gone?
Gee man, I don't know. Free will is philosophy 101, go read some book.
>Wouldn't they simply revert to their base parts?
No, in fact they did revert only on Deus' directive, thanks to Krelian humans are much more stable than what they were supposed to be.
>Besides Fei, Elly, and the rest of the main characters, is there anyone even left on the planet?
Have you even played the game?
There's the Shevat survivors, the people in Nortune, the guys in Niisam tending to the reverted humans and so on, even that faggot Ramsus is alive and well with his Super Sentai harem.
>What was the moral of Xenogears?
Does it need to have a moral?
>What's the takeaway from all this?
Whatever you make of it.
It's just DEEP, at the end of the day there's not much food for thought besides really basic snippets of continental philosophy and some pretty warped psychology basics, there's probably what you can consider some kind of silly vegetarian agenda in there too, depending on how much you want to look into things of course.
there's been a ton of animal video game characters in the past, both successful (Sonic, Crash, Spyro) and failures (Aero the Acrobat, Bubsy, Croc). For some reason they've died out in modern games.
Who're your favorite vidya animals, /vr/?
>>3638078
Real talk, Rocket Knight (Sparkster) is so much better than Sonic but I guess I was part of the problem as I didn't even know of the game until long after Genesis was dead while getting all four of the Sonic games. Ristar was also pretty cool while having a simple design.
Beside those I honestly can't say I like any that had died off. Kirby and his pals survived.
>>3638103
Man, I loved Rocket Knight as a kid, but it's a Konami game so I wouldn't have high hopes for the franchise even if it had been successful.
At least it died with pride and we managed to get a whole trilogy between counting the 2010 or whenever the last one came out.
>>3638078
I liked Aero as a kid but playing it now I think it's kind of shitty desu. I guess my favorite vidya animal would be Tails.
>>3638078
Modern games are tryhard schlock made by insecure babymen, made for insecure babymen.
ok guys give me your best games on the SNES and
Earthbound go buy it from eBay.
>>3637913

>On the SuperNintentoddler machine.
Is this a trick question?
Post things underaged bans would never understand about retro games
>>3637782
A lot of them fucking blow.
Is 28 the age of majority now?
"Why would you want a game to be hard? Games are supposed to be fun!"
Why is it so much worse than Trigger?
Shittier graphics, more pretentious crap, battle system not as fun, less 'straight-to-the-point' and more time-wasting filler garbage, art style was crap. Just about everything was worse about it except the music. Actually, no, even the music isn't as good.
Everything I liked about the first Chrono Trigger is thrown out the window.
This thread is going to suck.

Egoraptor (comedy)
Pat the NES Punk (comedy/reviews)
RetroSnow (reviews)
SNES drunk (reviews)
G4 Icons (documentary)
hundreds of retro game commercials
VGM
Are there any other shows worthy of a retro gaming video playlist for comfort watching?
The answer is gamecenter cx
The Completionist has a huge amount of retro reviews, and Dark Pixel Gaming's got some good RPG reviews
Are there any good, comprehensive review shows for Sega games? Best I can think of is Classic Game Room. Which is great, but it's more schtick than material.
I'll start with this one
>>3637615
Guerrilla War is only at $12 at the moment.
Ghost Lion is now over $100+ now, but since when its been that bloated!?
>>3637615
I've noticed some Genesis games such as Ranger X and Rocket Knight Adventures gradually increase in price over the years.
>>3637864
>Rocket Knight Adventures
Well it's about time. Everyone should own that game.
Do you guys know any rare snes games to emulate? Im talking about hidden gems preferably rpg like smt 1 and 2

I've been recently thinking about getting a SupaBoy and just saw that there is a SupaBoyS. Is it worth it or is it shit? I prefer carts over EMU's and the SupaBoy seemed to be a good all around system in terms of doing everything for SNES carts. The SupaBoyS just looks like it has a better screen and may have some bugs fixed. I'm definitely a causal gamer and not anywhere near as hardcore as a lot of you are. I just really want something that isn't shit. Input?
>>3637443
I wouldn't recommend it.
I have one, I like it.
Doesn't have a warning light though, so once the battery's empty it just starts going nuts.
i have a supaboy
>pic related
the screen quality is decent, would rate 6/10 i got mine for 70 bucks and i feel like it was worth it. Its great to play where ever you want but It's really easy to disrupt the cartridge when you are playing a game. If you move the handheld too quick the screen goes blank and you might lose your game. It's a really fragile unit which is fine with me because I'm really careful with all my electronics. if you are someone who likes throwing shit around this is not for you.
ITT: We trigger /vr/
pic related: my emulator of choice.
Mine too if its compatible enough with the rom
I mean I use it too. Cause laziness.
>zsnes
>triggering
yyyyeah...how is that triggering again?
>feel like revisiting Mario 64
>wipe the layer of dust off my old system and do the classic blow in the cartridge thing
>game doesn't come up, just blue input screen
>take out, re-insert, several times
>finally loads, all my files are gone
>wanted to start a new file anyway, so mess around the courtyard
>climb a tree and do a handstand
>suddenly Bowser-laugh death screen, Mario floating in the water
>screen goes black and stays that way
>reset and nothing; re-insert cart several times and game finally comes back
>my old files have returned
Did I just narrowly avoid experiencing a creepypasta story? Also, cartridge fuckery thread. I lost my recent save file on Link to the Past in a similar manner and am pretty pissed about that. I guess I need to clean my systems.
Clean your cartridges properly next time.
>>holy fuck

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that would be taking a dry or slightly alcohol-dampened Q-tip and just running it over the connectors, no?
I can't find any output for playing ps1 games on here. All there is is an ANT plug. Can anyone help me? This shouldn't NOT have composite.
IMG 2
IMG 3
Sorry in advance for inversion
Looks like all you got to work with is an RF/coaxial input, so you need a composite-to-RF adaptor.
Is there any reason to expand my roster since you can only deploy 5 characters per battle?
Shouldn't it be better to just focus on a few?
>>3637156
You can do it that way. There are a few maps where having your party changed up a bit can be optimal, however, it is far from necessary. If you want to use special units you'll have to swap someone out from your generic squad anyway, so it could happen regardless. If you're heartless you can let them absorb the skills from that generic though if you let them get their crystal (and they have the jobs open of course).
I usually end up focusing on a small group of units and set them up how I'd want them for the whole game and try to play like that. One of the best things, or worst things if you're that type of guy, is that you can do almost anything to beat FFT. So have fun with it.
>>3637174
Hmm.
I think I'll go that route. I got my ass kicked at Rat's Cellar fight because I kinda distributed the xp/fights over a lot of characters. Guess it was a habit I got from playing XCOM.
Man, I just wish I can rename my starting generic squires.
>>3637183
There are mods that allow you to do that if it really bothers you that much. There is also a unit editor that will let you rename characters called FFTastic.
That's fine, we all have trouble somewhere towards the start. If you don't already, you should have item on a few of your units since it'll help cushion the blow of making mistakes early on till you have a better idea of what you wanna do with your characters. It's a useful skill throughout the whole game as well so having someone invested into the item command is a very solid strategy even in late game.
What's /vr/ think of this?
>>3637121
stop shilling that shit
>>3637130
>Shilling
Who's shilling?
I'm thinking of getting one for the black friday sale.
