What's everybody playin'
Word on the street is that the Legend of Xanadu I and II translations are close to finished
>>3639009
Just like every fan translation, close means years away.
soldier blade
air zonk
gate of thunder
winds of thunder
those are the best shmups on the system, and some of the best console shmups during that 8/16 bit era
Gradius
What does /vr/ think of this thing?
What even is it?
>>3638893
Afaik, its a japanese version of a retron 5, instead of an NES slot it has a Famicom along with a PCE Hucard slot.
Also has upcoming adapters to support other cart types.
That box art is freaky.

Which is the better to play games on?
If you could decorate your rooms with some retro style art, which games would you choose from?
For me:
Robotron
Quest for Glory 1
Lock 'n' Chase
Metal Storm
Zeliard
Silpheed CD (Sega CD)
.
Ignore Rich.
I plan to theme/decorate my game room based on Kingdom of Zeal.
>>3638814
Duke Nukem 3D's stripper bar.
>>3638814
I actually prefer to decorate with oil paintings.
I have enough game stuff. My entire collection is cased in universal game cases, disc based stuff is CIB. I have a Neo-Geo MVS, I have Capcom CPS2 carts, Neo Geo games in Shock boxes, some MonHun Statues and some Collectors edition statues.
That's more than enough. I don't need the game room's motif to be game related.
When you get older, you start to value a more "adult" or conservative neutral space.
But do whatever, I know a guy that has his bedroom wall to ceiling (including cieling) plastered with various comic book posters and he's like 35 so whatever.
What games have you invested in, /vr/? I bought a copy of Bomberman Second Attack with water for $6. Gonna wait for the price to jump a little more then sell. Funny thing is I'll propably never play it because I just want to resell it.
I leave this museum piece sealed. Some day it'll make me a mint, I tells ya! A mint!

>someone actually saved my photo of WCW Backstage Assault.
Which retro console do you feel had the most aethstically pleasing design to it?
I admit I've never owned one, but I've always felt the Genesis 1+Sega CD 1 combo always looked so robust and awesome.
Atari 2600. i love that wood grain finish.
>>3638729
The Japanese PC-Engine. Compact and robust. The game format is also superior to SNES and Genesis giant plastic cartridges.
Genesis model 2 for me actually.
This game is the very definition of mediocre. The level design is bad, and the controls are wonky.
The fact that this game is ranked amongst the best games on the Sega Master System either must be nostalgia overload/blindness, Yuropoors who never played the NES, or the Sega Master System only has a handful of titles that surpass mediocrity.
Phantasy Star and Wonder Boy III (Monster World II) are the only two Master System games that seem to be actually great games (especially for their time). The Disney platformers are all very good too.
However, throwing up Alex Kidd as one of the Master System's best titles really reflects poorly on the system as a whole. The same goes for those that regard the SMS Sonic titles as among the best titles on the platform (when they are pretty mediocre platformers).
Are there any other Sega Master System games that reach the heights that Phantasy Star and the WBIII: Dragon's Trap reached? The only other seems even good are the Disney platformers (Castle of Illusion, Land of Illusion, Lucky Dime Caper), a few Game Gear ports, and maybe Golden Axe Warrior.
Regardless, both Alex Kidd and the SMS Sonic titles don't deserve to be considered great Sega Master System games.
because nostalgia. also, no one likes miracle world, they like the other entries.

>Regardless, both Alex Kidd and the SMS Sonic titles don't deserve to be considered great Sega Master System games.
Thats like totally your opinion man..
How about you get over yourself, Your opinion isn't a fact.
>>3638634
Lost Stars is considered bad by most people.
High Tech World is considered bad by most people.
Enchanted Castle is considered sub-par by most people.
Only Shinobi World seems to get some praise, but even then, the game is considered way too short even for a 8-bit game (keep in mind it was released in 1990 so that is not even an excuse) and can be beaten in less than a half hour.
I have only ever seen people praise and highly rank Miracle World. The rest of the series tends to get dumped on by most people.
Are there any mods that add voice to the main character?
>>3638624
No, thankfully.

I picked up an NES at my local vintage game shop. It was "tested and working fine", but when I got it home it didn't play anything other than Mach Rider. I've spent the last few weeks fiddling with it but I can't get it to work better than pic related. The visuals and physics are all fucked, and games crash within five minutes. Even if they start up fine they end up like this. It won't even play Mach Rider anymore.
All of my games work on a reproduction console.
It works with composite cables, but won't even turn on with the RF cable.
Most of the time it will blink once and shut off. (Not the repetitive blinking of the lockout chip.)
Here's a list of stuff I've done so far:
>Disabled lockout-chip
>Replaced pin-connector
>Cleaned connections
>Cleaned games
I can't find much on what to do next. The gentleman at the shop says the board must be fried, and that I should just get a new NES. I don't wanna get burned again though. Thoughts?
If I should buy a new system, how can I avoid getting fucked?
More fucky metroid.
Fucked text
capacitor is bad
Can anyone help me identify what game some music is from?
https://youtu.be/bNp3IxWhDoY
For about the first 20 minutes of this video, there's some music that's clearly from a retro game. I cannot figure out what it is even after hours of listening to old vg OSTs.
It all sounds like it's probably from the same game, but I could be wrong. i'm not sure.
The music alone makes me want to play it though, so i hope someone here knows.
>>3638356
sounds SNES
never heard of those tunes, though
>>3638431
Eh, figured it was worth a go here. Someone somewhere has to know.

Sup /vr/. First time posting on this board but been lurking for a long time, one of my favorites of 4chan. So yesterday I wanted to take my nephew out to do something we would both enjoy (im 23 hes 13) and remembered this arcade i heard about. So I drove us about 40 minutes south and holy shit, i found the holy grail of fighting games.4 different street fighters, 4 capcom/x-men including japanese cabinet of marvel vs. Capcom, 3 mortal kombats along with tekken 3(that was out of order), killef instinct, soul edge, snk vs. Capcom, kof 98 and fucking darkstalkers. Thought you guys might enjoy some pics
Its Wizard arcade in Pelham NH about 10 minutes north of Massachusetts border for my fellow New England fags.
So I fell for the RGB jew and I bought an SCART to yuv box. I'm trying to figure out why I can't get a picture out of my NTSC SNES--I want to say it's the SCART cable because it outputs garbage in my TV's component ins, but if I plug the green channel into the composite jack, I get a nice greyscale image.
Seems like the SCART cable is wired for S-video/composite or something. Anybody dealt with this?
Which Snes model do you have?
you have like Scart Scart or Jp21 Scart?
>>3638276
It works because green cables caries the luma information in component cables. Only blue and red contain color info.
Hey guys, looking for a retro game that lets me play as a brutal dictator of a country. Pic related and thanks in advanced.
rip in piece, Che Guevara
Dungeon Keeper
Kichikuo Rance
I believe a lot more strategy games allow you to play a dictator but not many that downright encourage it.
