How do you guys buy controllers?
I need a few new NES controllers but all the ones I see are so garbage I don't trust purchasing them.
I can probably take them apart and really clean them well, but, seriously. Some of these just look nasty.
I ask to hold the controller and press all the buttons?

I am purchasing from the Bay of E's

Waht if you're looking online?
It was such a cool game back in the day and even by today's standards, the gameplay is amazing!
I member.... Gotta love that amazing "MURICA" intro and the awesome bad ass rock soundtrack:

Yh remember it getting for Xmas in 2001... Seems like it was yesterday.
Quite a demanding game for that time, required some serious skill, patience...

Simulation games are a dead art :(
Just what the hell am I looking at?
a good old classic game.

I think it's...a GB cartridge in that thing that lets you play them on a snes, plugged into a thing that converts NTSC to PAL (the wizard), into a game genie.
What is the best option for a retro TV box? I'm not planning on building one right away but to my knowledge the best options right now are a Raspberry Pi, a PC, or an FPGA computer. The latter option is a lot more exotic though and the options that are specifically for gaming are pretty expensive from what I've seen, and right now they only work with emulating certian systems. Best example I can think of right now is the Turbo Chameleon 64 and that thing costs like $200 plus the dock to plug it into.
The RPi option seems really simple, but is it powerful enough to emulate stuff like N64 games well? It doesn't need to be good enough to run Dreamcast, PS2 and Gamecube because that stuff isn't quite retro enough that I feel like I need a dedicate box to play them on (although it would be a nice bonus).
I've built gaming PCs before and I like the idea of building a little console-sized PC just for retro games, but it would be more expensive than an RPi and the process of setting everything up would be a lot more involved. It would also end up being a lot bigger than an RPi and being more power hungry, but I have no experience with the RPi platform so PC is more familiar to me.
>>3643371
I should also mention that having analog output options (composite, component, or SCART) would be a welcome feature too but isn't a requirement.
>>3643371
Lol this is kind of cute. Are there mini (but not christmas ornament sized) video game console models a Raspberry Pi could go inside?
>>3643371
x86 box, Rpi is weak and its nice to have a windows based setup for other things, or if you already have a desktop with an extra pci slot, just slap a cheap hd4/5/6/7XXX card in it and run it to a crt for a second display

an interesting read
>The orthodontist wanted the game, more than any other of the thousands he'd already accrued. He'd daydreamed about what Stadium Events would look like inside the display case in his basement game room, the fulfillment it would give him.
>The only orthodontist in Bedford, Indiana, Tod Curtis was 41, with a wife and two kids, and well-liked in the small town. He had a free arcade in the front room of his practice. Like many children of the '80s, he cherished the NES -- introduced to the U.S. in 1986, it remains one of the best-selling consoles of all time -- and Tod kept a spreadsheet with the names of every game made for it, all 750-plus of them. Stadium Events was the last one he needed. In 2008, he wrote "Hooray!" in the margin after buying a cartridge for $1,475, but when he placed this game alongside his others, the joy it brought was fleeting. So a few years later, he found a second copy on eBay, winning it for $11,518.19. This one was in good shape, a cartridge in its original box with a single glaring cut running down its back, missing only the instruction manual. But, again, something nagged at him.
such a dorky man.

I'm pretty sure I had a wet dream like that once.

CIB fags
not even once
Just got the Fallout bundle on steam. I have pretty much no experience with these games.
I started playing the first game and have no clue what I'm doing. Any tips for a beginner to best enjoy the games?
Prioritise Agility, Charisma, Intelligence
Favor Small guns, Speech, Science
This should give you the best between functional combat and dialogue options. I haven't played FO1 or 2 in years, so if someone else has better advice tell me I'm a faggot and give OP some real advice.

Here, i made a build guide for you.
Why aren't you playing this version, even without a translation patch? (Only one in Korean anyways in romhacking.net)

I like its title screen way better, but apart from that, it only has minor changes. Why bother?

Seriously?
How the fuck do I clean this shit off?
>>3643256
I hear goo gone works well. Im sure it or any of it's commercial equivalents will work well
>>3643256
Take off the back panel, scrape at the sticker slightly to make the surface more coarse, and let some goo gone soak into it for like 10 minutes or so.
Use a paper towel to slowly but firmly rub it starting at the edges and working inward from there. It shouldn't take much time to clear off all the residue. Use rubbing alcohol or some other cleaning agent to clean off the goo gone residue
I tried using my cum once because I had nothing else within reach and it worked.
This series taught me that video games can be funny while still retaining quality.

That was Shinys whole motif after all

Earthworm Jim should be the next Bond.
I like EWJ (1 and 2) but to be honest their best feature is the animated sprites and general art, and humor.
Controls and level design is average at best.
What's your favorite piece of retro video game merch /vr/? What items do you have in your collection, and what do you want to purchase?
Bump
Probably my Duke Nukem t-shirts.
One is black with glow in the dark white ink depicting the radioactive logo, Duke Nukem title, and Come Get Some! print. Obtained back when Duke was current, I think it was advertised in a flyer in D3D's box.
One is white with a color logo of Duke standing on a dead Enforcer (see: D3D box) along with a joke about the Bureau of ATF. I think this too came from 3DR back in the day.
And three different Duke Nukem Forever promo shirts, which I believ were from conventions.
Amusingly, the three Duke Nukem Forever shirts were owned by (and I know one, possibly two, worn by ...lol) Joe Siegler. I bought them on ebay from him when he was selling such things, i think just following the 3DRealms closure in 2009.
>>3643545
(I'll try to get some photos later. As I think about it, I might have only wound up with two of the DNF shirts)
Are any of these shitty little boxes any good for emulation?
anyone have one?
They are alright if you don't mind input lag
>>3643124
I've never suffered input lag on my android phone, how would a android box be any different?
>>3643104
Which ones have native 240p output by S-video or component jacks?
I'm about to start this, what can I expect?
>I remember renting this as a kid (1999?) but I don't remember why I only rented it once
>>3643062
also, should I play this or Silver Star Harmony?
sssc is the most complete port of the game you can get imo
>>3643065
>also, should I play this
Yes
>Silver Star Harmony?
God no.

>>3643016
Literally, figuratively, metaphorically, and objectively a masterpiece.
>>3643016
OP that game is actually really well made and has great music. I replay it every year even though I've done all 3 loops 2 or 3 times now.
This is my favorite though, there's purity in it's simplicity.
Recommend good 3 person shooters with a thriller/horror theme.
Stuff like the Thing, the Suffering, SH Homecoming, etc.
uhhh, Silent Hill 1?
Are you sure you didn't mean to post this in /v/?
Blue Stinger. I don't know, it's kind of slim pickings with these kinds of games as far as being /vr/ is concerned.
>>3643009
Nah retro games only.
Also played Silent hill 1 to death already
