Hey, has anyone played rocket knight adventures on the Genesis or sparkster on the SNES?
6 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>3801749
Nope. Literally no one has. That's why they made a sequel! Cus it did so badly.
>>
>>3801749
Yes. RKA is overrated, Sparkster on SNES is the best game in the series, Sparkster on Genesis was terrible.

I'm playing the PC version of Rayman 2. Not the GOG version.
I'm ~50% through the game and at the end of The Echoing Caves pic-related pops up. The game still plays, but even if you do finish the level it won't let you break the last cage.

I am using a legit CD and it is in my computer.

I've searched around and apparently it's a common bug. I've tried a few patches that are supposed to fix it but nothing happens. Even the forum posts I've found say they don't work.

Does anyone here know how to fix it?

Find a No CD patch or pirate the GoG version and play that.

I'm not sure if this works but you should be able to copy your save files to the GOG version and play from there

Growing up in the 80s, was your house more like the top image (dark paneling, bronze statues) or were you blessed with the divine whiteness of new style (pastels, light furniture)?

Found this on the /vr/ must-play N64 list. Did you guys really like this game? Or did you give it a pass just because >>Rare<< made it?

>>
>>3801290
It's incredible.

A couple of the vehicles are annoying to play with, though, and it hinders progression at times.

Other times it's totally fucking sweet and it has this great aesthetic.

Rare never made a bad nintendo game. Their downfall was with microshit.

/v/ didn't help me so I'm going to ask here. How am I supposed to set this up? Whenever I try to load a ROM all I get is a black screen. I've downloaded and updated the core and I placed the BIOs in the right folder so I have no idea what's the deal here. I only know it's not the cue file because none of the games work
9 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>3801280
Make sure your cues are pointing in the right direction first.

I had this same exact issue, what fixed it for me was extracting each game zip to a normal folder, after each game had its own individual folder I scanned each directory individually.

The games appeared fine and no black screen when trying to run.

If the above 2 things don't work, create an account (for free) and download your ps1 roms from redump, then try those 2 things again https://archive.org/download/psx_redump_usa_20141221

I think I've never played it, but the box art looks interesting. I bet it's one of those SNES games that fetches over $100 for a physical copy nowadays.
>>
>>3801192
A loose cart is apparently going for more than $70 lately. I remember buying it new in the clearance bin for $15 less than a year after its release. I know it was fun, but I don't recall a lot about the game.

It's a pretty average platformer.

should I play original version or Zero Mission?
25 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Zero Mission.
>>
Zero Mission is great, but it's also basically an entirely new game.

I'd say play Zero Mission first, and if you liked it, try the NES version.
>>
>>3800771
Zero Mission

Original has aged like milk. No map alongside repetitive rooms means you'll be getting lost quite often. Enemy placements can be bullshit at times, health drops aren't nearly as generous as later entries in the franchise, and you respawn from death with only 30 hp, so you'll be doing a lot of hp grinding too. Did I mention that the western releases have no save system at all, and instead rely on a password system? Overall a tedious experience, and should only be played out of historical interest.

So I'm planning on replaying FFVI soon and have only ever played the GBA version and don't know what version to play now.

I'm going to be emulating anyway so should I play the PS1 remake or stick with the original SNES version? What are the major differences?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I'd stick with the SNES version, the PS1 version has load times for things like battle transitions, opening the menu, etc.
>>
>>3800749
The PS1 version is trash and is easily the worst version

The GBA version is good because it has new content, fixes some things, and has a better translation. However, the SNES version has MUCH better sound and, IIRC, graphics too.

The absolute best way to play is to emulate the GBA release, and patch it with the sound/graphics patches. They're somewhere on romhacking.net
>>
>>3800749
>emulate the GBA release, and patch it with the sound/graphics patches

Fuck, hadn't even thought of doing this. Will definitely look into emulating the GBA version with fixes.

so what the fuck is this thing?
another android emulation box that checks if you have a cart plugged in?
and that actually plays ps1 games?
and from what I heard, it has 'modules' just seems like another way to jew people out of money.

>>
>>3800442
good question. was wondering what sort of emulation its going to be doing. hoping its fpga
>>
>>3800447
i just watched a video on youtube about it, dude mentions that it does use an fgpa chip
and i've seen the menu interface, it looks like it runs a way more advanced anroid system than the retron 5.
dude says it has a 2.4Ghz processor and 800mhz gpu inside it as well, seems like it'll be pretty good as an emulation box, but you might as well just get a fucking retropie and would cost less, and you wouldn't need to get fucking 'modules'

except, i think this is being marketed towards the same crowd as the retron5 was, manchildren who feel the need to own physical cartridges but want want a 'modern' looking game box to play their games on.
>>
>>3800447
It is FPGA and does Sega CD and Playstation (and other CD systems) right out of the box.

These guys are pretty legit, the makers are producers of the Ratchet & Clank series and explicitly asked for Gamester81's advice. They seem to be trying to do something cool & high quality.

>>3800442
You know that this thread is going to devolve into "My wife and her son love it".

If you don't want to be "jew'd out of money" then don't buy it.

The modules seem to make sense because other than cheap NoaC and the android box that is the Retron5 no system has had high quality multiple console accessibility.

Breaking it down into modules seems like a way to make sure that you are getting high quality components...but because its high quality you have to pay extra.

What MIDI instrument was that famous "metal bowl clank" sound heard in Goldeneye?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQbm_hCiG2I

>>
I always thought of it as a toilet lid falling down in a large room that echoes
>>
>>3800339
Probably a gong.

Although, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Goldeneye used actual MIDI, but rather it used sequenced music and sample based soundfonts, which is similar to MIDI, but not really.
>>
>>3800359
I wasnt quite sure if it was true midi or not. I'm wondering if anyone ever got the soundfont extracted. I'd love to play around with new themes using n64 instruments

Everything was going to shit but the world was saved by deus ex lifestream. Seems pretty apperent to me, even before the bloody sequels, that only Midgar got totally cooked.

Though I would have assumed that Mako energy would have been given up on afterwards. I guess not.

It was called W&Y, or something like that... it was old, like really old, from Atari times. Used to play it in an old black and white PC, and lost it when it was formatted because they installed 1mb of ram on it.

I don't remember exactly the objective of the game, but I think there was a thing chasing you, and you could activate traps to kill it and move the bridges to get to the other platforms. There were some obstacles of some sort, and the general screen was quite chaotic. Any ideas?
