Who else has fond memories of these games?
Caveman Ninja
Joe & Mac
Congo's Caper
Joe & Mac 2: Lost in the Tropics
Joe & Mac Returns
I just beat the nes version. It was a lot of fun but way too short. A lot of people would probably say its unpolished. I don't disagree, but I think im more forgiving than the average person about things like that.
The chicks were hot

Joe & Mac 2 (snes) and Congo's Caper (snes) are pretty memorable to me.
Joe & Mac 2 was a pretty good co-op game, I used to do speedruns with my brother a long time ago, trying to beat our own records, we were really good at this game.
Congo's Caper was a decent platformer with good deal of fun even if you could only play alone. I really like the overall tone of this game.
3DO Japanese FZ-10 or FZ-1?3DO Thread
fz-10, don't be crazy
The Sony PlayStation® 3
>>3805154
Advantages of each:
FZ-10
No noisy fan.
Can arrange the memory without a special disc/game.
Optical drive is easier to clean, disassemble for repair, drivebay door never gets stuck (tray loaders often get this, especially OG Xbox)
FZ-1
If the drive does fail you can simply replace the whole thing with an IDE PC CDROM drive.
Load times may even decrease if you do this.
You don't *have* to get a Japanese 3DO, there's only like 6 games that rely on the Kanji chip instead of just putting the fonts on the disc. Most of these games are either kusoge, demos/previews, or are available on Saturn.
This podcast fucking sucks. Stop recommending people listen to these beardfats.
I don't believe anyone here did. so I'm forced to conclude this is some sort of reverse-psychology advertising.

Oh well I don't go to those since they're non-retro cancer, so forgive my ignorance.
Anyone else here play Nox? I got it out of a clearance bin at Sam Goody back when it was still a thing. It was piss easy, but fun. If I remember right it had multiple endings and paths. I used to purge all my equipment after long dungeons and start basically from scratch. I did a run once too where I kept the t-shirt and jeans.
>>3803697
Its a good game. The Nox quest addon is great and adds alot of replayability.
>>3803704
>Nox quest addon
See, I KNEW there was some sort of expansion, but I assumed the Gog version would have it when I pirated it.
>>3803697
I've beaten the game in the summer of 2015, it was a wild ride. Only did a warrior playthrough though, I should play through the game again with the other two classes, I heard the order of the missions is different and there's even different missions I think.
Also OP, play Divine Divinity, it's an amazing ARPG and one of my favorite video games ever.
>>3803704
Doesn't it just add co-op?

Here's a question: Is there anything that can be done about brittle plastic on old consoles, either to prevent it becoming brittle or to avoid breaking it when removing screws? I've had to open an NES and a Sega Master System recently to attempt repairs, and on both I broke the screw holes when removing the screws.
>>3801831
Nothing can be done to make the plastic less brittle. The only solution is to work around that issue.
First you have to realize these screws are self tapping screws. This means they for a lack of a better word "Drill" the threads into the plastic as you screw them in.
Second, you have to realize they've been in these holes for over 25 years. They're not going to come out easy.
My trick is I tighten the screw ever so slightly until I hear a pop, then, I unscrew it. This has worked most of the time to remove a screw unless the plastic is truly too brittle.
Remember when putting the screw back in to turn it to the left until you feel a click, this is the screw lining up with the threads its made in the hole.
This step is very important because if you just go screwing the screw back in, its going to be making new threads in the hole, stripping the hole and making it harder for a screw to be re-inserted in the future if you need to make changes.
>>3801831
Working on the vectrex I recently aquired. Lots of rust along the bottom, speaker dead, busted some screws in half trying to unscrew them. Replacement speaker arrives on friday, soldered in an external speaker in the mean-time.
I have a Turbo CD that the gears have seized up on. There is a youtube video that makes it seem fairly simple to fix, but I don't trust my self not to break it. If it was something cheap like a PS1, then I'd have no problem. But Turbo CDs are expensive and hard to find.

She's the worst character doe.
Why would a church deal cocaine instead of a regular charity? Even if you believe in a crazy sun god surely it can't take THAT much money to perform the ritual that would give birth to it, plus you drug dealing can't be good for the whole spirit quest type power the town has
I have obtained the Good+ ending for Silent Hill and I still don't understand what really went down. I figured that the main character's daughter who he adopted was really a vessel for what is basically Satan but I don't know what the connection between the business man and the priestess was. I'd appreciate a run down on all the other details too since I'm not sure if I got those either.
>>3808192
>between the business man and the priestess was
I'm assuming the businessman allocated and shifted resources and money to the cult, which the priestess is the head of
>>3808192Sorry if I spell the names incorrectly
Dahlia Gilespie (Priestess) was the head of the local church and tries to birth her God into this world by offering her psychically-gifted daughter as a sacrifice/surrogate for it to be born. Something goes wrong and Alessa (her daughter) is horribly burned and barely survives the ordeal. Dahlia comes to Dr Kaufman (the business man) with her dying daughter, and in exchange for a cut of this drug that Dahlia creates or something he houses Alessa's barely-alive body in a secret basement area of his hospital for years, suffering from her wounds while Dahlia tries to come up with another way to use her summon her God. During this time, Alessa manages to find a way to split herself into two people- Alessa (in the hospital basement) and Cheryl (Harry's daughter). Eventually Cheryl begins to reunite with Alessa to become one again and Harry gets caught up in the whole affair. At this point Alessa's negatives feelings and psychic output and distorting the very reality of Silent Hill, reflecting the nightmares she has experienced. Harry comes across Dahlia whilst searching for Cheryl and she manipulates him into surpressing and capturing Alessa's power. The ending of the game depends on your interactions with the other NPCs but generally leads to either God being born or partially born and destroyed by Harry or Alessa and Cheryl reuniting and giving Harry a brand new baby to start over with [Silent Hill 3 spoilers]Heather Mason
I'm skipping a lot and might have got a couple things a bit off but that's the gist
Hey /vr/,
I've been on the lookout for the correct aspect ratio and resolution for a very long time now and can't say I've found conclusive information on what is the definitive picture when playing NES (emulated).
I know the NES has an internal resolution of 250*244 or something like that, but that is stretched to 4:3 when outlut to a TV. Overscan may or may not have been a consideration. Tile sets, art planning and stuff like that may have differed on a game by game basis making pixel perfect output the 'intended' look.
I really don't know where to go from here. Pic related. I want to have a little retro library on my 3DS, though I'm mostly interested in the first Zelda on NES.
Apparently Nintendo chose 284x240 for NES VC emulation which is neither pixel perfect nor actual 4:3. I really have no clue anymore. Sure, on my first (ever) playthrough it 'lookd fine' but I want accuracy (on 3DS).
>>3806574
4:3.
>>3806574
if your shit is hacked you can download vc injects with whatever res you want
my fucking problem is that the pixels on my screen shimmer each time the pixels moves on my screen, usually on dark backgrounds. its distracting and I don't know how anyone can play like that
is this something about N3DS screens or what?
>>3806625
Care to elaborate?
>>3806630
It is hacked and that's what I plan to do. But after reading through threads on gbatemp, reddit, looking through the nesdec wiki and forums; I really don't know where it's at.
As for your problem, maybe you should turn off ghosting/DarkEnable or something like that? Though that's only a wild guess. Which game are you having this issue with? Can't remember that being the case for me with Zelda 1.
Anyone else have trouble getting into A Link to the Past? I grew up playing Zelda games, but every time I play it, I find it mostly tedious and I can't figure out why. It's cleverly designed and offers a good amount of freedom, but it just doesn't click with me.
>>3805845
every 2d zelda game since is based on it, you've probably already played a few of them right? i can't play any of them anymore because its the same pasic game over and over, like pokemon.
>>3805868
Yeah, the only 2D ones I haven't finished aside from this are 1 and 2. I don't think it's that I'm tired of the formula though because I still replay several of the games.
i played it 3 times so idk
What the fuck was the point of these? I'm reading they were sold for ¥1,280 each (around $15 or so). There were 10 varieties of these, + 1 which could only be obtained if you sent the coupons from the other 10.
This is like promo material, except sold for money. The only point I see is fapping to hot CGs of Sarah Bryant could have been cool for someone in 1995.
And turns out they even made these for Game Gear, except for Virtua Fighter kids. Sold for full game price if the articles don't lie.
>>3805807
Virtua Fighter was extremely popular in Japan. So popular, that for the first time ever, Sega consoles were selling well in Japan. The VF CG discs also had popular j-pop songs with karaoke versions in them. Karaoke is huge in Japan; Sega had numerous karaoke services and consoles in the 90s, and some services even alive even today.
So the point of all of this was: they made money.
What's stranger is the Aquazone discs. It's your basic Win95 fish tank screensaver. There were 6 of them (1 main disc, and 5 option discs to add more fish)...
>>3805818
Yes, I know it was a system seller for Saturn in Japan, and basically put Sega on map, and all that stuff. But still, why would you buy a disc of CG portraits of Lau Chan? For 1 karaoke song? Saturn had no mic too, right?…
You know, I'd expect this stuff to come for free with a magazine. And even then I'd probably miss it. Maybe I'm simply used to PC mags of the '90s coming with gazillions of wallpapers, but still this idea of paying $15 for essentially an audio single with awkward character portraits is baffling to me at best.
>>3805829
Most people only bought the Sarah and Akira discs to support their waifu and husbando respectively. They were released in order of the character's popularity, so poor Jeffrey's was released last.
What the fuck was his problem?
Daddy issues
I'd be pretty pissed too if I was made of triangles.
How the fuck does he get anything done with those hands?
>>3805735
Ff7 should've been in rich and sumptious 2D. The 3d graphics are very ugly. They should've held off until 8, so the real fans had one last installment to cherish.
