Has there ever been a successful addon system? That's not to say that some aren't great, but generally speaking it seems that they're always doomed from the start.

does super gameboy count? that did pretty well didn't it?
also can someone name all the shit on the snes tower
I don't recognize half of that shit

The bottom thing is an action replay, everything else is a region converter
when did retrogaming become a niche hobby and not just something normal fags do?
Retro aesthetics and mario are what normalfags do. Scrubbing a star soldier cart you found at a thrift store for ten minutes and jiggling it around in your NES with giant earmuffs to block out the coil whine from your CRT is niche
>>3963650
I appreciate this post
I don't think normal fags have ever been into retro gaming.
They've been into "retro gaming" when it's a convenience to them like with the NES mini or even emulating popular NES, SNES, and genesis games to stream... But all in all they don't even play old games much, it seems, even though emulation's so convenient and close to them.
If we're getting into CRTs and physical consoles, then of course it's niche!
Hi i'm Billy Mitchell and i'm better than you.
>>3963261
Well...he is isn't he ?
>>3963268
Yes, yes i am.
To be fair he really is better than me.
Based on my collection, can /vr/ recommend me any more games?
Left is games I like and right is games I don't like/regret buying/don't care to play.
Don't lynch me please
>>3963163
>almost half are sports games
>doesn't like mario bros
wow cool taste in vidya bro
what are you even doing with a NES?
get a master system or a genesis, plenty of sports crap.
>>3963182
Sorry, I just couldn't ever get into Mario. 1, 2, 3, and Dr. Mario came with my system. I like the simplicity of NES sports games.

If you liked zelda, maybe try startropics?
Other suggestions: skate or die, wrecking crew, zelda 2, castlevania 2, metroid, kid icarus.
Any other anons here who posted in the Osamu Sato threads from 2014? I'm trying to rebuild my collection and I lost the LSD promotional book (pictured here).
I'm not a Sato cultist, I've played LSD and I found it quirky but didn't "get it".
Anyway, I've found this CD with music from Sato's games for download, thought some of you might enjoy it:

that's his latest album. if you actually want to support him you can buy it from Amazon US for only about $25
Is there really noone here who can help? It's not in any torrents and the original Mediafire link is long dead. I believe the filename is lsdpromo.pdf
It could've been amazing.
I don't know, I like that N64 games don't have loading times.
>>3962779
didnt want to end up like sega
>>3962779
>It could've been amazing
No, it's a piece of shit nintendshit proprietary ZIP disk, literally the worst possible media format you could ever implement in to a children's toy
Hacked vita is the best portable emulator. It can do anything the psp can do (minus ps1, maybe soon thanks to The_Fag)
Screen is dark in psp mode with horizontal and vertical scanlions.
>I never even use it to play vita games anymore, just gbc rpgs with ff and savestates
>>3962715
the Vita can already do PS1 now, get Adrenaline 3.1
it's a shame about the memory cards hut the OLED screen makes it a worthy PSP replacement for best retro emulating handheld
How is the memory capacity? Is it limited to in board memory or can a card get inserted? I have a psp but debating on changing up to the vita so I can emulate plus play the vita games

Thinking about buying some more Sega consoles. I've already got a Dreamcast, so I'm heavily leaning towards a Saturn since I never owned one. What're some good Saturn games?
Also, are any of the Genesis add-ons worth buying?
The Sega CD is worth buying. A lot of improved ports and a few decent exclusives.
Do you like fighters?
Do you like shmups?
use the fucking catalog, faggot

Pretty good read.
https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/the-story-of-nesticle-the-ambitious-emulator-that-redefined-retro-gaming
>>3962486
Nice long read, I really enjoyed that.
I remember digging through archive.org trying to find info on the developers of nesticle and stuff. so this was right up my alley.
Is "icer addis" his real name? shits sick.
Actual OP here.
I couldn't think of anything more autistic to sit around and argue about, personally.

>proceeds to post thread about a emulator with a pair of hairy nuts as an icon
ITT: Critically acclaimed games, or games loved by /vr/ that you just can't get into.
I want to like baldurs gate, because I love strategy games and tactics games. But there's no real variation to gameplay. You put on your 100 hundred buffs, locust the casters and send your melee dudes while pausing every 2 seconds to cast magic missles. Then you sleep and do it again.
>>3962381
i HATE jrpgs, but nice try.
>>3962379
Banjo and Kazooie does it for me. It's offensively bland and feels like it should be in a creepy pasta for the atmosphere alone. It just feels weird and uncomfortable with bland gameplay but people love it to the point of trying to remake it with shitty new animals.
>>3962410
Halt! What be these yonder games thou speaketh of? I doth knoweth only of the Torments on the Yonder Planes, and that of Zelda short of Fitzgerald. What be this... singular Furie, and those Spaces Twice Deceesed?
Y'all know anything about these? Found them in my closet from years ago. I was able to find a decent bit of information, just wondering if there was any valuable info I missed.
That looks pretty cool, have a bump
are these comics? post more pics. i'm interested.
I never knew they made a compilation book. Noice. I have the Mario/Zelda Sticker Book, with I think the Zelda side complete. One box of stickers was only enough to complete the book once. By which I mean, of the 200 Mario/Zelda stickers, one of the stickers (for each IIRC) only appears once. So if you wanted to complete it, you had to keep buying packs and hope you got the lucky one. Nintendo America has had scummy business practices since the late 80's.
So What have you been playing? Why is this genre so comfy? Just started Phantasmagoria. Do you think we will ever get a 3rd sequel?
People should try Azrael's Tear very good point & click
Journeyman Project is pretty good. Recommended you get the original or Turbo version, not Pegasus Prime. Sure, the remake does make it graphically closer to the other two games, but it also adds in a bunch of bullshit that is just annoying. Instead of being treated to a video when you travel from area to area in the underwater level, now you have to do a trial-and-error navigation, the "non-violent" solution to the underwater level no longer works(and leads to your death now), and probably some other assorted crap I can't remember.
Just stick with the original or the Turbo version. Best looking graphical adventure prior to Myst, did the whole pre-rendered thing before the Miller's ever decided to make a game.
Better on Sega CD
Really don't like it. It's more linear than most, and group-turn-based combat turns my stomach sour.
>>3962120
Why?
ITT: Rare instances where the Western release is superior to the Japanese original
>>3961667
Mario USA
>slightly better graphics
>better music (listen to the stage 1 theme)
>additional run button
>not necessary to beat the game with all 4 characters
Resodent evil
Better sifduculty and less censorship
>>3961680
Did you know that was another game called donkey kong picnic in Japan?
What game makes you genuinely happy to play?
Not like "Oh this reminds me of X time in my life" but "yea, this is really good. I'm glad I found this"
>>3961105
I feel that way about Ecco every time I play it.
Nothing
Spyro the Dragon. Stewart Copeland's soundtrack and the art direction of the game make me genuinely happy.
Same with Suuper Mario 64. Again, the music and the odd surrealness the game's environments had are top comfy for me.
