What's the best way to play KI2 on PC?
I've a portable file but I hate having to map the buttons everytime I run it.
Also, KI2 thread.
Mame, or Retroarch Mame core if you want cool filters. The CRT filter I use makes KI's graphics look even cooler.

DON'T USE MAME!
It's full of input lag! Get retroarch or shmupmame instead.

>It's full of input lag!

>bullets don't harm it
>a hedgehog does
???
oh look its this thread again..

It's a fast hedgehog
Faster than a speeding bullet, yo.
Let's be honest, the Atari 2600 was shit.
Cool story bro.
Right now? Yes.
Back when it was first released? No.
>my attention span is too short to enjoy these games so they must be shit
Sure it's not for everyone but there are still plenty of people who like it. I didn't grow up with a 2600 and never even played Atari until about four years ago but it very quickly became one of my favorites. If late 70s/early 80s arcade games aren't your thing then the 2600 isn't going to be either.
Let's get a thread where we discuss video games and game systems from the second gen on back. This seems to be a less discussed topic here. What are your favorite games? Do you own any obscure consoles?
>>3966723
Can anyone explain in a nutshell what exactly happened to Atari? Why did they put all their stake in ET? Did they really bury the games in the desert?
>>3966726
Entire books have been written about it. But in a nutshell, cocaine and hubris.
3D Prerendered Sprites appreciation thread!
PRERENDERED BACKGROUND ART
PRERENDERED SPRITES IN A 3D ENVIRONMENT
EVERYTHING PRERENDERED!
Super underrated aesthetic. Even if the game sucked the graphics were awesome.
What are some of your favorite games that use this style, /vr/?
>>3966661
Cool Spot had the best sprites tho.
Baku Baku, also super fun puzzle game that's somewhat underrated
Did you get mad at her stealing your materia?
She made me realize how much I prefer learning abilities over just equipping them, and she reminded me just how useless your characters are without materia
same thing goes for VIII and GFs
The first time around yes, but at the time I didn't know whether it was permanent or not
fucken whore
Oh hey they released Extreme-G 2 on Steam! I remember having a fun time with that on N64, let's check it out...

Oh. Ohhhhhhhhhh noooooooo
Nintendoes what Steam don't.

>ever EVER listening to Reviewers
Why is there so much homebrew and fan games being made for Genesis and hardly any for SNES?
I don't know, I'd wager there are more people familiar with the Motorola 68000 than whatever architecture the SNES has.
Genesis, Neo Geo and Dreamcast have plenty of homebrew games. Why?
It seems that massive nostalgia faggots are obsessed with the "underdog" consoles, even though Genesis wasn't an underdog.
Most of them are latinos or yuropoors that go stuck with those consoles and developed some weird affection to them.
>>3966340
you say like it's a bad thing having games being released for those consoles, Not even talking about "original characters donut steal" but cool things like Barbarian, Wolf3D, QBert on Genesis or Gradius on SMS
>but there are already superior versions of those games, why?
why not?
Is this an actually good book or is this just fluff like that retarded book about a man's autistic journey in the Mushroom Kingdom
What was that last part?
>>3964062
He's talking about Bob Chipman's book, where he compares SMB3 to 9/11 and the Kennedy assassination (but in a "good" way) and talks about how he would lie to his family about working late just so he could play more on his gameboy.
no, it's awful. Legitimately the only good book about video games is the masters of doom.
What are some games that successfully mix two main mechanics you wouldn't expect to combine well on paper? Pic related, Macross 7 for the GBC, mix of shoot em up and a rhythm game. Boss Stages are really fun.
>>3963992
alex kidd mixed platforming and rock paper scissors
Actraiser 1 had the Simcity sections...it combines well enough, Tiny toons had that football level.
>>3963992
Not quite retro, but Fist of Mars mixes SRPG with reticle aiming and dodging combat for a surprisingly fun mix.
ALRIGHT! FIRST PLACE!
Is this the best F-Zero game?
I think it is.
>>3963396
It's pretty close. I think that GX is slightly better. X has the best music imo though.
I like X's more memorable music and comic book artstyle for the characters. GX is still amazing, but X is my pick.
This word is almost always used as one-word prepackaged criticism. What are some valid, objectively negative points about this style of game design, /vr/?
(Serious question; I'm sure there are plenty)
>>3963372
There's nothing wrong with the concept if it's used as an incentive for gameplay as opposed to padding.
Examples of incentive based collectathon:
Spyro 1
Super Mario 64
Yoshi's Island
Examples of padding based collectathon:
Banjo Kazooie
DK64
Spyro 2 and 3.
>>3963703
Mario 64 isn't a collectathon. The stars are just goalposts; they no different than the flags from SMB.
Classic 2D platformers: tight focused level design, emphasis on difficult platforming, obstacles and threatening enemies.
Collectathon 3D platformers: here's a big area for you to wade through collecting whatevers, "difficulty" is just figuring out where everything is.
What is Sega's best console? In my opinion it goes
Master System > Saturn > SC3000 > Mega Drive > Dreamcast > Game Gear
32X
>>3963093
I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as 32x, is in fact, the Mega Drive 32x, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Mega Drive plus 32x. The 32x is not a console unto itself, but rather an add on for a fully functioning Mega Drive.
>>3963087
>Master System and Game Gear at opposite ends
>Game Gear is literally a portable Master System
>no CDX
>no 32X
>>3963101
>different architecture
>different CPUs
>literally the only thing the Genesis handled was background pics and some sound effects
>same console
Classic arcade flyer and magazine ad thread?
At least post a DIFFERENT ad for the OP, poindexter. We've gotta avoid repetition, lest we turn into /v/
>>3961587
It's a good attention grabber. I might try something different next time.
>>3961614
Yeah but /vr/'s tight-knit. It's not like /v/ where you'll post a thread one day and post the same thread the day after for a whole new audience of people that didn't post in the first thread.
Don't think ive ever played a JRPG besides Pokemon. Is there any important info I should know beforehand?
Even if I end up really liking it, being that this is a big time investment it's not gonna be something I'll replay anytime soon so I wanna make sure I get the most out of it on my first playthrough.
For instance I'm pretty sure that edgy guy and shuriken girl are optional characters, do I have to take any precaution to make sure I don't miss them? Is there a specific path I should take to make sure I get some sort of true ending? Any good to know tips to avoid stupid frustrating bullshit like the infamous sonic casino zone crap? Plot relevant dialogue you can miss unless you talk to some obscure hidden npc? Items I shouldnt miss out on or that I should save for a specific boss? etc.
I feel like going in blind is too risky but I also don't want to have to rely on a walkthrough the entire time.
Help?
Come again?

What should I know before playing Final Fantasy VII to get the most out of the experience?
Wow that was quick
