Okay, I know Wiley showed the blueprints for Zero to Protoman, but we never actually saw Protoman and Zero both on-screen at the same time. Their color schemes are pretty similar, Zero has the long blond hair where Protoman had the long yellow scarf, and they even gave Zero the Break Punch in a few games. Also the name "zero" has similar connotations as "proto" in reference to being the predecessor.
We know that Dr. Light used Megaman to build X, was it ever confirmed or denied that Wiley used Protoman to build Zero?
>>4030073
>was it ever confirmed or denied that Wiley used Protoman to build Zero?
Nope. Most of whatever happened in between the classic and X series has been purely left up to speculation for years.
The great thing is that Zero proves that Willy DID eventually surpass Dr Light's creations.
>>4030114
Considering Dr Wily represents Albert Einstein along with the manhattan project and the allied forces in ww2 and Dr Light represents Japan i find it a fitting analogy. They were surpassed and now the weapon that was made to destroy them now protects/keepaneye out for them
So I was pretty much always a RPG player (Chrono Trigger was pretty much the first game I ever finished). But now I kinda want to get into some action/platformers games, especially on the Mega Drive since I pretty much never touched the console except for Sonic games.
I don't like to ask for recommendations or anything, but I was looking for games with infinite continues. I personally like my games balanced around the stages and not around restarting the game from the beginning, pretty much like pic related (except for the final boss obviously, fuck him)
Castlevania has infinite continues until you turn the game off.
I'm actually having a hard time thinking of anything on the Genesis/MD that has infinite continues and falls under this category.
Ecco maybe? Valis III?
Shinobi III has limited continues but you probably won't need them.
Gunstar Heroes
Alien Soldier on baby mode
Ghouls n Ghosts of you want to start off "easy"
Chakan, though that doesn't stop it from being impossible
ITT: retro characters you'd be friends with
You all wish you had friends
What is the best version of virtual on?
The saturn version is pretty good.
Especially with the twin sticks.
There's only 2 good Virtual On games
the first one Operation Moongate, the best port is the PS2 sega ages one
and the second one Oratorio Tangram with only two ports (one for the dreamcast and one for xbox 360 live which I don't know if it still works)
virtual on marz and force are shit

Are retro vidyas on the same level of high art as film and literature
>>4029613
Vidya is a reddit meme taken from 08/09 /v/.
Video games on the other hand have a large impact on culture. As pop culture they are very important. That impact is mostly from the non retro side though. While the roots are on the retro side. The majority of retro games are still out of the mass public's eye.

Videogames are toys, you're literally a grown ass man playing with yourself in a dark room. Grow up.
31st of may, 1999 was the day they released the first game in the US.
>>4029318
Finally, I can fuck spikeI'm sorry for saying that. This game is great and is a reminder of when Sony was once great
>>4029358The AE boys are underrated, even the other girls besides Yumi are underrated too. I hope someday this changes
What do you guys think of the slingshot moon jump glitch?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGNNZbiKbJI
Is it worth my money? I've emulated the game and I don't find it anything special after a couple of hours.
I also remember the mixed reviews when the game came out.
>>4029180
>I've emulated the game and I don't find it anything special after a couple of hours.
Sounds like you've already made your decision, then. Thread over.
Resident Evil clone done in full 3D environments and with multiple endings. If you're into that sort of thing it's pretty good.
Legendary atmosphere.

Serious question to the users of /vr/, why the hate for rpgs?
As time haa went on I have noticed that rpgs, and especially jrpgs, seem to be look down upon by quite a lot of users here. I see quite a lot of users here scorn them, often saying they're the "lowest form" of game and other such things. I believe it may have to do with elitism of playing "hardcore" games here but I'm interested what you guys think. Has anyone noticed this on /vr/?
It's just a few /v/ kids pushing a meme, ignore.
If it's not just what >>4028914 said, then I'd guess it's probably due to the rise of RPG elements and narrative-driven gameplay in modern gaming. If someone has turned to retro gaming because they were sick of that stuff, then they would probably hate JRPGs more than anything.
i like rpgs they're fun
if you're happy to underpay people for their old vidya then you're a hypocrite and are no different to ebay scalpers
who says I'm a hypocrite?
>>4028746
There's nothing wrong with paying little for a game, the same way there's nothing wrong with charging a lot for one. A free market is a wonderful thing.
We're all just trying to get ours, OP.

How come no one ever bothered to make an english patch for Super Star Stacker?
Who cares about story in a puzzle game
Who cares about story in a video game
Who can't read Japanese?
This game got too many remakes. Which one is the best one to play through for a first-timer?
>>4027798
But my dude, you posted Lunar 2, that one never received many remakes other than the Sega CD and SAT/PS1 versions.
>>4027840
>never received many remakes other than these three remakes
It's really up to your personal taste.
Sega CD has pixel art backgrounds, Playstation had painted ones.
Sega CD has labyrinthine dungeons, Playstation had straightforward corridors and Lost Woods-ish rooms with multiple exits you have to memorize to get through.
Sega CD has magic exp system and you have to expend magic exp to save. Playstation didn't.
Sega CD had running and random encounters, Playstation has a rather cumbersome dashing and enemies can be seen and avoided on the map field, although it is quite hard to pull off.
Both had fewer FMV animations than the first game.
Hey /vr/ I'm thinking about getting a used vita as a portable ps1 machine. Is that a good idea? Also any recommendations?
Get a used PSP instead; its far cheaper. easier to hack and PS1 games run flawlessly on it.
>>4027361
>its far cheaper
Sure
>easier to hack
Not really. The only issue is having the right firmware.
>and PS1 games run flawlessly on it.
Same as a vita
OP, get a vita if you want to play vita games. Get a PSP just for PS1 games.
>>4027361
Flawlessly.. Minus the missing joystick and l2/r2.
Vita is easier to hack, if you get it below 3.60.
Hey, /vr/ Can somebody redGill me on the different Street Fighter III versions?
I just got the Third Strike DC port, but I hear the first two ones are worth playing as well. What are the pros and cons of each version?
just different variations of shit
If anyone talks about how amazing and "godlike" 3rd strike was, I can guarantee that they are full of shit. NO ONE was playing 3 stateside back in the day. It was all about marvel.
>huge gorgeous sprites
>1v1 neutral game controlled by stamina management
>that rainbow flash when you kill an enemy with the uppercut
>planting seeds in the middle of a boss battle and watching them grow in real time to net you more healing fruit
>turning enemies into bricks of gold and chunking coins off them with your attacks
>eating cooked food to increase your max hp
>unlockable gaiden books with characters that actually play differently from gradriel
I'm really amazed at how much Kamitani already accomplished with this game 10 years before Odin Sphere. It really deserves to be a cult classic but nobody played it because there's no translation patch.
I think with a lot of these untranslated games you can figure them out by just throwing your head against them long enough. That, or just watching someone else play it who knows what they are doing is good too. It makes them very accessible in the end.
>>4026898
But you miss much of the plot and any clever dialogue that way. Although I guess it depends on what really interests you.
can someone explain to me why there's still no way to hook text from saturn games and translate them automatically pls. it's done very easily with virtual novels and pc-98 emulators
