Are these any good?
No.
nope, they're awful.
God no. Input lag and inaccuracies everywhere.
Why does everyone act like this is the holy grail of gaming?
Even the NES is better
Slow ass processor LMAO
Welcome to slowdown town.
Its got a bunch of good games on it, stupid.
>>4043593
>Even the NES is better
My nigga.
SNES was the turning point for console games from being hardcore to being for soft babies.
You're underage as fuck.
Must have been weird to start with 3D games.
>>4043510
Is there any MSX love out there?
What are some good games to play that I might have missed? Also I would love to see some of your hardware setups
>>4043258
Anything from the obvious (Konami, Capcom, Compile etc.)
Borfesu
mon mon monster
Ashquine 1 - 3
Illusion City
of course you could also look yourself since there isn't that many roms
thanks! Actually not heard of those 4.
This is my current battlestation, looking to discover new gems.
Just got an MSX2 in Japan in March, picked up the games pictured with it, waiting on Salamander, Parodius and Nemesis / Gradius in the mail.
Does anyone know any good emulators?, I don't to download a different emulator for every system, Does an all in one emulator exist?
>>4042943
RetroArch
>>4042950
Installed, Tries to run a ROM file but it wasnn't even detected
Is there a single flaw?
>>4042739
piss easy
>>4042739
Tons, but it doesn't matter because what's good is *very* good.
This is true of most classics, but blindly assuming they're flawless is common practice for some reason, and that's where all these modern "overrated 2bh" meme reviews come from
Too easy and has slippery movement
this is the superior mickey game on genesis, why the fuck do people rec castle of illusion over this? its better in almost every way, graphics, sound, control, even conceptually.
>control
Just no.
>>4042882
yeah from what I played of mania the controls felt way floatier than they did on castle of illusion
Based American devs cucked Japs in their own game.
Is the Super Star Wars trilogy on SNES good?
Is Empire the best game, just like it's the best movie?
>>4042346
>Is the Super Star Wars trilogy on SNES good?
Yes
>Is Empire the best game, just like it's the best movie?
No, Star Wars is the best one, just like its the best movie.
>>4042361
That sandcrawler level fucking sucks though.
>>4042376
>slowly platform up, with many moments where patience is required or you'll fail the jump
>every jump is a precision jump on moving platforms
>fail the jump
>instead of just dying and restarting from checkpoint, you're now playing 99% of the level all over again except with less time to finish
>if your timer is low enough, you're better off committing suicide than trying to finish the whole level
>enemies and (the MANY) destroyable hazards respawn
>no save points, if you die you game over you have to play the entire game again
Yeah, fuck the Sand Crawler stage and fuck Super Star Wars. At least Super Empire has save points.
has anyone played Falcom's Legend of Heroes Gagharv trilogy?
They're only in english via the butchered PSP localizations. Assuming they'll never get retranslated, is it worth it to just play those versions, or should I skip them entirely?
>>4042179
I played the first one. It was okay, I guess.
>Assuming they'll never get retranslated, is it worth it to just play those versions, or should I skip them entirely?
Or you could learn Japanese.
>>4042206
Assume that's not an option either.
What's the best method of buffing scratches on a GBC screen?
Displex polish, buy it on Amazon. Get the kind for plastic screens obviously, not the smart phone kind they have now.
I used it on a PSP that has a similar plastic layer above the screen, and I buffed it out easily. You REALLY have to buff the shit out of it though, but it can get pretty large scratches removed.
Had no idea a product for this even existed. Thanks for starting the thread OP
still have the same gameboy advance i got when i was like 6 or 7, sometime not long after it came out, and its got some cosmetic damage on it mainly some scratches on the screen so its nice to see someone started a thread about this. itd be nice to get it looking nice after the years of use.

I wonder if this glitch in TNT map 21 was intentional, looks cool.
>end up looking at some youtube comments under an FFVII review
>a bunch of underage weeaboos with brony avatars are criticizing VII and making comparisons to "muh superior VI"
I really have to stop looking at those cancerous comment sections. But really, what is with this annoying group-think?
>>4041732
Some people have differing opinions to yours when it comes to video games. If your life really so fucking cushy, sheltered, and comfortable that THIS is what's important to you and keeps you awake at night?
Damn, I'm actually a bit jealous.
I'm overaged and I'm also in the "muh superior VI" camp.
Final Fantasy is a baby tier JRPG series anyway. Both are good games for what its worth but VI deserves a bit more praise VII has been overrated to hell and back
I'm completely entry level with retro games but I just finished Mother and absolutely loved it. Are other retro RPGs like this? Should I try Dragon's Quest or Final Fantasy from here?
Dragon Quest is closer to MOTHER, but it's a lot shorter if you know what you're doing.
In any case I say you just move on to EarthBound.
Congrats on having good taste OP, you should play the sequels now.
>>4041603
Also Dragon quest 2 would probably be the closest since its also kind of open and directionless "go find the crests" instead of "go find the melodies"
Why did gamepads overtake joysticks? Were they inherently more ergonomic for 2D games?
>>4041530
I'm just spit balling here but probably with the need for more buttons it started to become unfeasible to use a hand to support the bottom of the joystick in your hands. You have to have it placed on a table for fightsticks and that's not ideal for most games when you're chilling on the couch.
>>4041530
Fewer parts
>>4041565
Good point. Compared to earlier consoles' joysticks third-gen gamepads were cheaper AND more reliable.
Anyone here experienced with making your own NES carts ?
Share your experience.
I'm also interested in label making.
Do you mean making completely new PCBs with CPLD/FPGA implementations of mapper chips
or original carts that are rewired to work with normal EPROMs?
I've made quite a few NES and Fami repros with existing boards if that's what you mean.
If so, what exactly do you want to know?
>>4040697
I don't know much. Just some basic shit about mappers and some stuff I read online.
I'd like to make my own carts without having to destroy other carts if possible. The games I have in mind use the MMC3 mapper.
