If Yamauchi was still alive today running Nintendo, how differently do you think things will be going.

Probably be out of business or bought up by Sony.

Thats a fucking huge claim to make.
>>
>>4070216
Not really. You need multi media support for a modern console to be successful. Nintendo was against that or not willing to make the investment.

What's your favorite retro city builder, /vr/? I've had a hankering to play some Sim City, but I thought I'd see if anyone else had recommendations for something different, since I've played it to death.

Opinions on this game?

it would have been better without the coat of mario paint. we should have gotten the real smb2 in the west
>>
>>4069756
Great game and better then the actual SMB2. The controls are solid, the visuals are nice, four playable characters gives some replay value, and the music is incredibly catchy. Overall I think nintendo did the right move by reskinning doki doki panic to be SMB2 in the US, we got a better game we might not have actually got had they released the actual SMB2.
>>
>>4069756
Much better game than Mario Lost Levels.

Lost levels is just a continuation of SMB 1. Same controls, no other special powers.

SMB2, has much better music, better controls, more variability.

Without SMB2, SMB3 would have never happened.

Have any of you played Driver, Interstate 77 or (most likely) Twisted Metal?
I find it interesting that these games have stuck with me in playability, and fun, yet no one produces them much anymore.
Twisted Metal got slammed into the dead horse over and over again, without bringing anything new to the game. Just unbelieveability (not a word) and craziness.
I loved the original, how realistic it could be, and messed up it was.
Racing games have become mundane to me.
Anyone have suggestions?

Carmageddon of course

How accurately does this thing simulate Nintendo's MMC chips, as well as other third party expansion chips from Japan and the like? I assume it's not 100% accurate, right?

Last I checked CV3 was the only MMC5 chip game that was supported, but MMC4 (Fire Emblem) got fixed recently. There's some user-made mapper files for VRC6 and some other Famicom chip if I recall correctly. It ain't 100%, but it's getting there.
>>
>>4068669
you can check the compat list on the site listing. It should say what mappers it supports.
>>

>>4068678
My question was for games that are supported. Are there differences in how they play/look on an N8 compared to a real cartridge?

What games are actually better than Final Fantasy VI

In the same series? 3, 5, 7, 9.

Beyond that? Too many to post.
>>
>>4068364
3 and 7 are categorically worse than 6. I'll give you 5 and 9 though.
>>
>>4068369
Is categorically the new objectively? I'm seeing it everywhere.

FF6 is bad. It has a bloated cast. No meaningful customization. No meaningful choices. You could seriously set cursor memory on and mash through battles with most characters.

FF7 may not be your favorite, but it has more meaningful customization with your first 15 coloured marbles then the absolute entirety of FF6.

I'm 25 now and I look at my collection with pride, or at least I used to. Now I just look at it with disdain.

How do you cope, /vr/? Adding to the collection? I mean what's the fucking point when you have no one to share it with. All my friends couldn't care less about retro vidya. All of you people are more or less similar to myself: yeah you might have a social life but literally none of it involves retro vidya. If you don't have someone to share it with other than anonymous folk on a slow as fuck message board, then what do you do? Just accept things and find peace? Fuck. I just want to play some local Metal Slug play like the old days. Because of my age I only caught the fumes of those days and it just wasn't enough I tell you. It just wasn't. I don't want Overwatch or League of Legends, I want to play the classics with friends.

Don't let your retro hobby consume your life. So long as you treat it as just that - a hobby, and not a fucking lifestyle, it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm extremely fortunate in that I've got friends who are into this kind of shit. Sucks that you cant play local coop vidya but it's not the worst thing.

And try some of the newer games. If you start playing those with people, then you've got social contacts who are more likely to try retro gaming than the average person is. Try otger people's hobbies if you want them to try yours.
>>
I think it is time for a purge. Sell off the things you collected for the sake of having them and only keep things you actually like.

>Don't let your retro hobby consume your life. So long as you treat it as just that - a hobby, and not a fucking lifestyle, it shouldn't be a problem.

I had to give up on my "life". I was going places, shit happened, had to give up. There is no hope for me when I'm in this much debt. May as well immerse myself in my hobby.

>I'm extremely fortunate in that I've got friends who are into this kind of shit. Sucks that you cant play local coop vidya but it's not the worst thing.

Yeah, you're right about this.

I liked Warhammer Vermintide well enough, but my buds are so addicted to overwatch and league that its all they want to play. Any attempts to make new friends that game and I just end up with a group of people hyped for the new Call of Duty or Battlefield. All of you fuckers into good shit are just like me, you keep it on the DL so no one at work knows.

It is fucking suffering
