I've recently tried to play this game on MAME, but i noticed that the sound of the drums on the select screen is too loud while the rest of the music is too low, anybody knows how can i fix this?

There are known sound issues with MAME and MK. It's not just the volume difference; the sound becomes more and more distorted the longer you play.
>>
>>4125569
It's an issue that has been known for years

Ok, i get it now, but i find odd that on a couple videos on youtube the music sounds a litle better than it does on my computer.
Btw, why does the cpu always end with an uppercut instead of a fatality every time i lose?

I beat Actraiser a few days ago. It wasn't the best Sim game, and it wasn't the best sidescroller action game either, but the combo of them was unique, as was the setting/story. Neat also seeing the combination of Greek and Christian mythology with a bit of Eastern Reincarnation as well.

Should I tackle the rest of the Quintet games?

what a completely garbage opinion from an absolute pleb

Soul Blazer is great, consider it an action puzzle game like Zelda
ActRaiser 2 is pure action sidescrolling all the way through, it's better than the first game in that regard, but lacking something without the sim elements
IoG is the weakest blazer game and is kind of bizarre with strange choices for locales and story events, but it's pretty intriguing if only because of what kind of stuff they actually put in the game, kids die, man
Robotrek is a fun game about building a team of robots and wrecking shit with them
Terranigma is the swan song of Quintet, and it's in no way underwhelming. It's not as good as say, Chrono Trigger, but the content of it somehow seems more important, like it was trying to say something instead of just being entertaining and fantastic.

I've got a fever, and the only cure is Gradius.

Problem is, I've already beaten I, II, III, Gaiden, IV and V. Which sister franchise was the best? I've already beaten all the Parodius and played a bit of Twinbee.

Play Salamander, Salamander 2, Gradius 2 68K (different game from regular Gradius 2), Nemesis 1 and 2, and Odomedius

Why no Nemesis 3?

Check out Gradius ReBirth for Wii, it's better than V but not as good as the arcade Gradiuses.

Someone needs to make a 6-button hack for this game that maps your 4 weapons to X, Y, A and B, getting rid of the ring system, and puts the switching from fixed/free shot to the Mode button instead of down+shot.
15 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>4125370
I agree. the ability ring is a little clunky to use in this otherwise fast-paced game
>>
>>4125370
>>4125403

switching weapons is supposed to make you vulnerable. You're not intended to be able to quick switch. If they wanted you to quick switch they would have made A just cycle weapons when you press it instead of stopping your movement and opening the ring. Stopping to switch weapons is a commitment and is part of the game design.

> and puts the switching from fixed/free shot to the Mode button instead of down+shot.

that would be nice, but I don't think down+A is that troublesome to use.

Looking for good games for the genesis. Finally got my wii to run the latest version of homebrew (after letterbomb fucking up my bootup ten fuckin times). Looking through the genesis library seems kind of underwhelming, but maybe Im just missing something and these titles are just less known. Any suggestions and or recommendations are appreciated.

Mega Drive and Mastersystem too, secondarily.

What kind of games do you like?

Beyond Oasis
Ranger X
Comics Zone
Herzog Zwei
Gaiares

What made these games special for you? Im always interested because its such a polarizing fanbase with so many different meanings to people. Which is the best and why is it Mother 3?
69 posts and 8 images submitted.
>>
I couldn't get into mother 3 at all, it felt way too much like a fan game and the graphics put me off. I was a huge earthbound fan but the whole fandom is really exhausting.

What made it special to me was the psi animations and just the overall environments
>>
>>4124683
Earthbound was my first in the series and I loved it. Hadnt played a game that resonated quite as strongly. After playing Mother 3 though, Earthbound just seems like it lacks substance outside of its satire.
>>

I agree, I liked 2 but mother 3 is pretty shitty.

We are a group of people (env designers, modelers and programmers) who love Duke Nukem 3D. We are sad seeing how many of the classic fps get a nice treatment these days, like Doom, Wolfenstein, Quake or Shadow Warrior except Duke Nukem so we decided to remake at least 1 level and make it playable.
We dont want this to become another "a group of fans is remaking dn3d again, gearbox is shutting them off" so we prefer to work at our own rhythm without showing too much for the moment. We've been working for 5 months already. Would you answer a few questions?

>Do you like Duke? Which other name should we give him to avoid copyright problems?
>Which level from duke3d do you like to be remaded? We are using Unreal Engine 4
>Anything you consider it has to be inside this project? monsters, secrets, weapons, items, soft porn, interaction..

>First half is riddled with bad puzzles, tedious as fuck backtracking and running in circles and waiting around for certain times of the day, with a bit of platforming here and there
>Second half is pure platforming and bossfights and it's actually fun

Why did they do this? No wonder so many people hate this game, they probably didn't bother making it past the tedium hell that was the nitro and mandragora level.
Also I just beat the game on Hard mode and it rewarded me with absolutely nothing, though it wasn't THAT much harder.

Why did Donkey Kong 64's reputation do a complete 180 since 1999? The game recieved excellent reviews and was popular with gamers back then.

These days it's basically the butt of all jokes and considered to be as good as Daikatana. Even the pejorative term "collectathon" is directly associated with the game - DK64 is basically used to smear the entire platforming genre through association alone.

Why do people act like you have to collect every single thing in the game when you can reach the final boss with substantially less than half?

Youtube.
>>
Collectathon isn't a pejorative term.
>>
I remember even back then that DK64, despite its positive reception, was criticized for focusing too much on collecting widgets.

Keep in mind the game came out at the tail end of the Mario 64-like 3D platformer's heyday. I think people were mostly burned out on the formula by then.

>80% strategy and management sim games, 10% Doom / Build / Quake engine-based shooters, 5% flying combat sims

Was PC gaming really that bad back then?
27 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
PCs weren't better than consoles for gaming pre-2000, they were only ideal for management games because of keyboards and mice allowing for complex UIs. There were still good games in other genres but they all really paled in comparison to console equivalents.

All you need is Diablo anyway. Earlier multiplayer RPGs like Neverwinter Nights and stuff were good too, though dated by modern standards.

What games were the early examples of in-depth character customization? I was really impressed by Smackdown 2: Know Your Role for the PS1. It has as much flexibility as the newer games. I know Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 had some of this but not nearly as much. Anyone know of some games or want to show off their funny characters they made?

Wrestlemania 2000 on N64 had one. It was so fucking broken lol. You could set every single grapple input to a ridiculous powerful move, like every one of your moves would be as strong as the powerbomb etc. You could even set the strong moves to your weak grapple.

WWF Attitude on the Sega Dreamcast. The CAW was still better there than Smackdown 2 at the time. I was able to create characters such as Jason Voorhees or musicians I hated at the time such as ICP, Kid Rock, Fred Durst & Eminem, so that way my wrestler can beat the crap out of them.

Sonic Jam is the way I play Sonic games nowadays.
It does have some issues, particularly in Sonic 2 with some extra slowdown, but I can excuse that since these weren't emulated but actual ports to the Saturn hardware, Sonic 1 and 3&K play flawelessly, and my favorite thing about it is the time trial modes. I've played the Sonic games too much as a kid I know them by heart, so picking any act from any zone I want to play in any order and try to beat my old time score is always a fun way to play some Sonic for 30 minutes or an hour every now and then.
