Anyone else have tons of games that you've barely played but want to play? Ive been trying to fix this problem by sticking to only one game at a time and dedicating weeks to it until i beat it. Does this lead to frustration/mental illness? Professional reviewers have to play games all day and complete them, what methods do they use for motivation?

They get payed

Give up
play games you like, for fun
>>4128094
Don't know if this will work for you, but I fixed it for myself by only playing new games via real carts on real physical hardware.
Having to get up and manually switch games puts a real barrier in front of 'just play play something else' urges. Also, having to buy or trade for games added a sense of justification to play it. And if I don't like it or am unwilling to really play it, I sell or trade it away.
why is no one talking about the atari box? Will we finally get an arcade perfect version of primal rage and primal rage 2?
>>4127360
I guess that might be nice - but almost certainly not. Does this guy look like a coder to you? Or even someone who would hire coders? He probably doesn't even know Primal Rage 2 is a thing people want to play.
So...is it another Android based system?
>>4127360
Lol @ primal rage being a selling feature of anything

You're 10 years old, you're sick with a cold and you're home from school. What vidya ya playin?
Home schooled need not apply
Some of my favorite "too sick for school, but not for vidya"-core:
Quackshot
Tiny Toon Buster Busts Loose
Super Star Wars
DKC2
Sonic 3

Loved to play Pokémon Yellow or Mario Tennis on my GBC when I was sick.
Metroid for sure
why are europeans so bad at making games? this piece of shit even got an hd remaster.
Better than Americans, worse than Japs desu
Why are europeans obsessed with the same games? Those are what I call "anti-classics".
They're everywhere.

What would you consider the games that anyone worth their salt would have played on each retro console? Not just games that are good, but games that turn heads when someone says they haven't played them. Also help me choose which one to play first http://www.strawpoll.me/13452049

NES: SMB3
SNES: Super Metroid

Came here to post pretty much the same screen cap.
What do you suppose makes Metal Slug so great? The first three anyway.
I like how much more outrageous the games could get after the first one by including sci-fi and supernatural elements. I love how goofy the games can be yet still retain an exciting feeling of play.
>>4123831
I love how hyped the final levels are.
>>4123831
A really good mix of "realistic" illusionistic characters, vehicles, backgrounds and animations while still being very clear to oversee what is going on. This makes everything feel so natural and smooth on top of the controls.
Good sense of humor.
Fun to play co-op.
Noob-friendly to get into for the most part without being too easy.
Tons of setpieces, no filler.
Name a better looking sidescroller, I dare you!
You may post screenshots to back up your claim
>>4123460
Yeah, SotN is pretty. There were a lot of awful ternds in the 90's that SotN just avoided entirely. Many games were going for pre-rendered 3D to 2D sprites, and other gimmicks. Instead SotN opted for traditional sprite work and then just took it to the next level.
Look at Mega Man X4-6 for a more typical 2D game of that era. They're quite ugly.
that was easy
>>4123460
Playstation had a lot of strong 2D.
Your opinion on the two best sidescrollers for the NES?
DD is amazing. It's much more than the "Mega Man knock off" some people make it to be.
Bucky O'Hare is great but... so much trial&error with death penalty it can be irritating.
Those aren't Kickmaster though.
>>4123137
or Shatterhand.
We always have threads about SA1, but let's discuss it's sequel. How did you like it?
>>4121345
Only thing I liked about it more than 1 was the more stable frame rate, would hit 60fps more often.
I think the soundtrack is really good, albeit corny.
I do not like Knux/Rouge stages, and Tails/Robotnik stages are frighteningly boring considering they're mecha rampages.
I would put more of a focus on the Sonic/Shadow Stages, but improve the level design and some of the mechanics to make it less "on rails"
Is the PC version the definitive version or are there lots of pros and cons to consider like with SA1?
Anyone built a Raspberry Pi 3 emubox? The flat $70 or so price tag is pretty enticing considering that many of the retro games I would want to play are ridiculously expensive.
Any advice?
I was probably going to order the #1 set off Amazon (the one with the 32gig SD and the black case). I've built computers before so I'm not really worried about fucking it up during setup but I'm still wondering just how well it'll work overall before I pull the trigger.
>inb4 emulate for free on your computer
Wouldn't be comfy with my current rig and I don't have the space to rearrange shit to make it comfy.
>>4121306
It works well but only if you plan on plugging it into a TV, or taking it places, or whatever. If you sit at your computer most of the time anyway, then just play on that.
It's not THAT difficult but there are times where I find it a little inconvenient and unintuitive
>>4121306
I used the same kit, it was pretty easy to set up.
>>4121306
>inb4 emulate for free on your computer
So build a sff PC. Why cuck yourself with reddit pi input lag and shite performance?
Best Strategy RPGs from the 16 bit era?
About to start up pic related.

Langrisser 2/ Der Langrisser (Genesis and SNES)
Metal Marines / Militia (SNES)
The Shining Force games (Genesis)
Feda: The Emblem of Justice (SNES)
Im playing ogre battle but I find myself being too protective of my units. Since they gain experience.
Dunno if I should treat them as if they are explendable. Like a boss softening party or something
>>4120347
This. But Langrisser 2 > Der.
>>4120473
KoL was terrible. Battles were too long and once you get the better classes like Knight and a few magic weapons, it was easier than LUCT with bows. Plot was also retarded.
Fuck this stage so hard.
It's fine.
the only hard part about megaman 3 is doc robot
and that's only because i can never remember the boss weaknesses in 3...
after 1 and 2 they stopped making much sense
>>4119283
yeah how the fuck am I supposed to know what Top Man is weak to?
Just started Final Fantasy Tactics for the first time. Looking at all the stats and jobs, I'm not really sure where to begin--what jobs are good/bad, what not to spend the party's money on, etc. How forgiving is it for a player who doesn't know much about min-maxing? Is it possible to play it by ear or do I really need to plan everything out right from the start to avoid constant TPKs?
>>4115718
Best jobs for a casual playthrough are Ninja's. Monks are also good because they're economical.
General Tips:
Secondary Action: Item on everyone is a good
idea for your first playthrough.
Chemist: Learn Phoenix Down on everyone. Auto-Potion is a nice addition if you can get it.
Squire: Learn Gained JP Up, Move+1, and Accumulate
Knight: Knights are terrible. Get to Level 2 for Monk, learn something like Weapon Guard/Parry.
Archers: Also kind of suck. Nothing really useful besides Concentrate.
Monk: One of the best jobs. Punch Art is good and versatile. Punching is better than most weapons early on.
Priests and Black Mages are good, but they require a huge amount of JP for the different spells which makes them really lackluster unless you're using the JP trick to avoid grinding JP.
experimentation is half the fun OP, just keep two save files
math wizards are super broken but you should probably avoid them for your first time since they are a bit tricky to use
