What is the best way to experience the Might and Magic series?
>>2758350
the best way is to play it
There is a bit of an overarching story that you can appreciate the most if you play them in release order together with the Heroes of Might and Magic game.
The problem is that from 3 onward the games are extremely casual while 1 and 2 are more for experienced players.
Start with HoMM2.
Then M&M6.
Then HoMM3.
Then M&M7.
Then M&M8 if you want to.
Then, if you're sold on the concept, M&M3-5.
If you just want the roleplaying part, M&M6-8 in order.
Thoughts & opinions on Sonic CD, /vr/?
Literal 10/10
The remake sucks because it added unnecessary Sonic 2 physics, and got rid of the time reset mechanic.
Ports on PC Windows and GC/PS2 also suck, the only good version of Sonic CD is the original on Sega CD.
Also JP soundtrack is superior, but US also has a good music (Stardust Speedway is better in US ver.)
>>2758120
>time reset mechanic
What are you talking about exactly?
>>2758120
>unnecessary Sonic 2 physics
How much does that affect the actual gameplay, besides Chaos Collision not being too literal?
Do you guys know if there any retro games with half naked men? Like pic related
Dont judge me please. Theres plenty with half naked women. I just wanna know

Great thread, op.
Is there even a single worthwhile game on the Atari 2600? Not something you play just to get some historical knowledge about games but something fun you would even nowadays buy the 2600 for.
Be honest.
I have barely seen any atari game related threads on this board since creation while the next generation of video games directly after the atari gets discussed daily on here.

Berzerk is pretty cool
the sound effect are the best part of it
>>2755404
Hero is a blast
solaris is fun
berzerk is cool
Indy 500 is pretty good if you can get the paddles. Pitfall is fun.
I enjoyed the premise of the game. I enjoyed the combat system, but after getting to day 3 I just couldn't be bothered to sit through anymore of this game.
>fuck its dialogue
>fuck its forced exposition
>fuck how linear it is
>fuck how goddamn hidden item containers are
>fuck its limited inventory bullshit
The premise piqued my interest to the point where I'm considering checking out the book. Really interesting stuff.
git gud pleb
parasite eve is fucking easy
Parasite Eve is a really good game... are you underage, OP?
I also didnt finish it but only because of the final escape.
Who the hell thought putting a one touch kill escape segment AFTER the final boss, without a chance to save, was a good idea?
Having to sit through the load screens, cutscenes and both forms of the final boss to attempt a trial and error puzzle can kiss my fuckin wrist.
Times killed fighting the boss: 1
Times killed escaping the ship: 4 before I put it down and havent even opened the jewelcase in fifteen years.
Great game leading up to that point too.
A lot of people hear about why the N64 was difficult to program, but might not understand why. On paper, the system seems fairly simple, it's only got three components (CPU, GPU, one allotment of unified RAM), and no crazy parallel processing systems like Saturn or PS3.
I think a lot of people tried to look too deeply into the type of RAM (or the texture cache), but the answer is really much more simple. And it's in the location nobody speculating looked.
I found a forum post by one of the lead programmers of Burnout 3
>the problem wasn't the type of memory on the N64, but rather the fact that the memory controller was on the GPU and it gave priority to rendering for bus accesses. So the CPU was always sitting there waiting, and waiting and waiting.
http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?26634-PS2-vs-Dreamcast-Graphics&p=640528#post640528he also says in another post that the reason gamecube didn't get burnout 3 was because the console wasn't cut out for it, but that's not a /vr/ discussion
nigga do i look like a programmer to you?
>>2752470
Fuck off.
>>2752473
does he look like a programmer fam?
> If you break all blocks before beating the dragon you've got to kill yourself to retry
How did this made it to the final release?
What, do you want the game to throw more blocks into the arena if you can't beat the boss with your limited ammo? You deserve to game over.
Now I suppose if you use up all the boxes the boss could do some very hard to dodge attack where it throws boxes at you. That would punish poor play while also preventing a fail state, but, uh, n-no, it's flawless! You casual!
Lose Runner sg-1000
If you fall into a pit, the pit does not close.
you have to reset.
No passwords to save
No timer to allow yourself to die.

Mario Land and Super Hang-On coems to mind
Whatever happened to the shmup general? Seems like it's been at least two months since I saw one.
I'm playing three games right now: Gradius (X68k port by Sharp), Final Crisis, and Zanac AI. First two are great, but the last one's hitbox programming must be screwy; it seems the shield weapon has too small a hitbox compared to how it appears on-screen, which has lead me into cheap deaths time and time again. I'm considering switching to Zanac EX/FDS, but I find that version lass manipulable and AI still has its moments.
Star Force is fun, too, from what I just played.
Been playing Air Zonk lately. Absolutely outstanding game with a 15 minute long final level.
Coryoon was made by the same people and it just as fun.
Ikaruga is utter gape.
X-Com thread...go!
rocket launchers only mission.
>download Collector's Edition from abandonware site
>use a USB drive to copy it onto an old P4 box with XP Pro since this thing is apparently incompatible with W7/8
It worked, but the Battlescape is kind of too fast which is disconcerting. Also it forces the computer into 640x480 resolution which looks distorted on the monitor I was using.
Tried a test game. Got off to an ok start. One fucking Sectoid who was playing hide-and-seek in a barn killed half my squad, then the next mission I bagged a Floater Navigator with no casualties, and then came the first terror mission which cost me six dudes because I'm an idiot and bunched everyone up thus baiting grenade attacks. You're not supposed to get a Poor rating on a daytime Floater terror mission for chrissake.

I don't even know why they gave him Gradius. Everyone knows he stood no chance of beating it. The AD played more than Arino did.

Boy I love spoilers being the first thing i see when entering a thread
>>2738141
It's Gradius. Shmups are his worse genre. If you seriously thought he had a chance in hell of winning you've clearly never watched the show to begin with.

Also, this thread is a scanning guide/anything /vr/-related thread. People discuss, post pics, etc of their guides, and help each other with scanning tips.

Mods, repairs, and technical questions go here. What are you working on?

The majority of problems with cartridge-based consoles can be remedied by cleaning the cartridge slot and the contacts of your games even if they are not visibly dirty. Consult the Game and Console Cleaning guide here:
http://www.gametechwiki.com/w/index.php/Game_and_Console_Cleaning
If you have any questions about a non-/vr/ console, try posting on the forum ( http://forums.gametechwiki.com/ ) and letting us know here that you did.
Does anyone have experience fixing NeoGeo MVS controls?
My second player A button (and to a lesser extent B and C) "works" but it requires a really hard button press. I assume the connection is good, and maybe its just the contacts are worn down or something, since it does register the button press on occasion.
I figure if I'm going to do one, I may as well do the rest. I'll probably end up posting on the neogeo forums at some point regardless.
Idk where to ask this but how good are VGA to Component converters because most 480p signals look like shit on my LCD unlike VGA signals like on my DC which look great
How do I properly bend this pin back in place?
