Retro game collections that are on the PS1, PS2, and PS3.
Like:
- Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection (PS3)
- Namco Museum 50th Anniversary (PS2)
- Intellivision Lives! (PS2)
- Williams Arcade's Greatest Hits (PS1) [I plan on getting this one]
Neo Geo Online Collection.
Bretty fuckin expensive too
Namco museum on ps1 is great. There are two of them, one of them includes 32 bit remakes of some of the games.
Sega did the same remake idea with SEGA AGES collection on ps2, although the results were kind of all over the place quality-wise they are still worth a look.

Pic related is the only one for the PS1 I really cared for. If you like Centipede, the arcade version of it is included in Centipede 3D for PS1. Centipede 3D is pretty enjoyable, so I'd rather keep that around than another Atari compilation that I may not actually play.
Gauntlet II is one of the more difficult games to come across. I didn't see any emulated ports until it was included with one of the Midway Treasure compilations for PS2, Xbox and GC.
Got a Vectrex today at a garage sale with Berzerk and 1 controller for 100 bucks. Did I do good? Also, I tried to use the player 2 slot to play Mine storm with my 1 controller and it didn't work. Is my player 2 controller port broken? It otherwise works great played berzerk for a good 20 mins earlier and mine storm for like 10 mins.
Aren't Vectrexes rare as fuck?
>>3059668
I think they're more so uncommon.
>>3059659
Yeah that's a good deal. Pretty pricey for a yard sale but since you were obviously able to test it, yeah worth twice that pretty easy. I also only have one controller for mine and I haven't tried swapping but it's quite possible it needs to be plugged in when the machine comes on to register. Remember it's analog. Now you just have to decide if you want to be like me, invest in a multicart and be endlessly frustrated by no overlays or if you want to slowly accumulate the ever-appreciating originals with overlays.
>>3059668
Yes, quite. They haven't been completely discovered by the collecting community at large either so they're set to blow up pretty soon.
Hey /vr
Today I found an interesting glitch or easter egg in Blood.
If you use the "noclip" cheat and try to pass through some walls of the Rest for the Wicked (E2M3) level, you can see a message that says "REPLACE WITH TILE #2500 THANK YOU, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Besides, some sprites can be seen depending on the wall you try to pass through

Will Action Replay work on a Japanese Saturn?
>>3059513
thanks m8
My Action Replay 4M Plus has a serial port on top. Is that relevant?
>>3060141
That's the old version. It was used to connect to your computer and upload new cheat codes. You have to manually enter them into the new models.
What is /v/'s opinion on Clint Basinger, aka LGR?
uh, /vr/ I mean
he's ok
>>3059461
It seems like his channel was made for me. I enjoyed marathoning a lot of his reviews I had on my backlog after Mark from CGR kind of dropped the ball. He's legitimately funny and one of the few reviewers to question his own judgement, takes on games rarely featured elsewhere, and does so on real hardware since he's for collecting stuff.
His Duke impression is dead on and it's no wonder we think alike since we love Duke Nukem 3D to death, that's always the mark of a great personality along with having a patrician childhood like I did (PC/DOS). Even though he's into the patreon craplock he's always 100% honest and far from any clickbaiting. Plenty of informative content too.
So, I was wondering if you guys could recommend your favorite single player games that you think are just fun to turn on and play?
I just started emulating games recently and played through all the old Sonic titles as well as Donkey Kong Country and want some more specifically for SNES and Genesis, don't worry about recommending games that seem like obvious answers because I haven't really played these consoles since my youth (I was actually just going to find a Mario rom but I don't even remember which ones I liked, so I figured I'd just ask for general recommendations)
No fighting games.
#thewayitsmeanttobeplayed
>>3059486
You are just in every fucking thread aren't you. Suck at fighters much?
>>3059495
He sucks at them and is eternally pissed that he'll never be good enough to really play them. It's funny and sad at the same time.
>>3059223
I take it by turn on and play, you're looking for something action oriented where you don't have to learn much before starting? Most retro games are just turn on and play.
A few random recommendations
>Space Harrier
Fast paced, very fun rail shooter. Simple but challenging.
>Ranger-X
Really fun arcadey action game where you fly around in a mech.
>Metal Slug (any of them really)
Great for run and gun action, just start shooting and keep moving
>Earthworm Jim
Another straight action-platformer, very well made a ton of fun and goofy.
These are a bit of a stab in the dark, but are all excellent games in my opinion.
what great games did /vr/ make you discover? for me it was bulk slash and popful mail.
>>3059108
/vr/ in general renewed my interest in getting a saturn, it had been on my want list for years but life got in the way/just generally wasn't on my mind.
Bulk slash is definitely one I picked up because of /vr/ though, Maken X (dreamcast) is one I'm about to try as well that was recommended to me.
/vr/ got my interest on the PC Engine, Saturn, DC, C64, Amiga, and MSX up. Bulk Slash is an impressive saturn game you can adjust to it very quickly. RIP Hudson Soft they made/published so many quality titles
Maybe I'm a huge nerd, but /vr/ didn't make me discover any game I didn't know already.
Except for that Garage game or whatever that I honestly don't care that much about.
Jesus christ, what went wrong with the audio?
Did Capcom hand over the sound programming to the casual intern?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2yg5fQwEhI
It was perfectly fine in the non-Super version too...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylhlnrvrOII
The megadrive version of CE was done by capcom and I think by the time super came out for Gen capcom was breaking its relationship with sega and might have gotten another company to do it.
That's some pretty sweat cover art
>>3059025
>capcom was breaking its relationship with sega
>proceeds to give massive support for the saturn and dreamcast
If anything they were STARTING their fruitful relationship with SEGA
hey guys
just finished policenauts and snatcher, it was so great. what should i play next? are there any decent detective\cyberpunk-ish visual novels out there?
>>3058917
Three sisters? No, I'm not kidding.
Illusion City (Gen'ei Toshi). Mostly even translated.
SD snatcher might be a hoot
Praise this game. Now. Praise it.
I praise thee, O Grand Head

yyES!
I've played a lot of the metroidvania games, wanted to try a classicvania. But the controls are just so shitty and unsatisfying.
>go up stairs by pressing up
>difficult to even get on stairs
>can't change direction while attacking in the air
>attacking on the ground stops all motion
I tried using a gcc as well as keyboard and mouse but they're both shit. How did people put up with this?
We were gayer back in the day.
>>3058736
I can only imagine how you'd feel about the other Classicvanias.
I just got this today. Is it really that bad? So far, the only problem I have with it is the camera controls and the lock on.
>>3058713
Decent 3D platformer. It's fucking horrible compared to literally any 2D Castlevania though.
>>3058719
>horrible
Why, though? I can understand if it doesn't follow the usual Castlevania formula, but is it good on its own? Also, how's the sequel?
That is pretty much it. It is a good game but the problem is that you have to get accustomed to the controls and that there are certain parts that the camera will fight you or make you die such as obscuring a platform you want to jump on and end up dying due to that.
So no, it isn't really that bad.
Honestly is it fair to consider Amiga and Atari ST American computers? They never made anything of value for them so I think it's time for them to admit we Europeans are their rightful owners. Plus Tramiel was born in Poland, Europe.
MSX stays japanese because we only provided shitty spectrum ports.
>>3057984
well I suppose by that logic they arent american... but does it honestly fucking matter?
>>3057984
Atari is as American as apple pie, sorry yuro-friend.
>Plus Tramiel was born in Poland, Europe.
Yes, and most of the engineers were probably American.
How good is the wii at emulating ps1?
Well, it's about emulating PS1 on a Wii, so, it's half retro(?).
>>3057924
not well. orignal xbox can, a cheap laptop will do much better
>>3057924
Get a PS2 or PS3 instead. Those consoles play PS1 games. Or you could get an actual PS1. A PS1 is pretty easy to find and it's dirt cheap too.
i always die at the second part of the ski level :(
git good
>>3057724
that was not my question. i already play with infinite lives cheat. question is what do you have to do to jump over the second part? i dont know. i'm stuck
>>3057724
>git good
Says the person who never played it. The stage floor is glitched. If the stage was only difficult, I would see your point. But having to deal with glitches is bullshit.
