Its time
oh, mega-drive!
>DOOMGUY GETS A GOAL ALREADY
KICK AND TEAR
OH BABY ITS IN
FF6 was released in 94, RS3 came one year later, and despite being pretty different mechanics wise it kinda gives this vibe of a really advanced FF6 romhack.
Since both games were devolped by Square it stands to reason that there might some overlap in the teams, the lead designer did work on the first two FF games after all, but Im finding it hard to find more information on the subject.
what do you think anons?

you didn't play romancing saga did you
>>4153014
you know, after checking some screenshots they do look similar to each other too, I did not think about that since I only played the GBA version of FF4 and that has its own look
Why did the best Golden Axe game never come to home consoles? None of the other games come remotely close to Revenge of the Death Adder.
Because porting games is expensive and there was never much of an audience for Golden Axe in the late 90s anyway so it was probably not worth the investment.
>>4152710
>never much of an audience for Golden Axe in the late 90s
Revenge of Death Adder came out in '92. Would have loved to of seen a Saturn port.
>>4152738
That's cool, really didn't know it was that early.
WHAT
THE
FUCK
WERE
THEY
THINKING
>>4152687
Ummm idk anon what exactly are you thinking? Did you even make it up to the Sylx tower or did you just grab some random picture of it? Did you even go through The maze dungeon that isn't much of a maze, did you even make it to forbidden land Eureka?
I replay FF3 every year around christmas time when work lightens up in the Winter and I always look forward to this fold of dungeons. I'm so confused, what exactly are you thinking that they were thinking about? Theres nothing wrong here, as I see it. Or you just suck at the game and thought you could get here on 4 thieves?? I have no idea whats got you so perplexed about their perplexity that may have or may not have existed at the time of development.
Elaborate anon, don't just bait :/
>>4152687
>tons of elixers and endgame equipment available in chests
>four ribbons in plain sight guarded by an easier version of a boss you've already proven you can beat
>enemies give tons of experience so you'll gain multiple levels along the way
>final boss has a very simple pattern, and you can even make yourself invincible to it within a few turns by stacking protect spells
WOW WTF SO HARD HOW IS IT EVEN POSSIBLE???
>>4152697
FF isn't supposed to be hard. You're supposed to break all the systems, make your super party and steamroll the end boss in 2 rounds. Have you never even played one before!
>ah, some light-hearted fun
>NO CONTINUES
Three lives?? No continues?! What were they THINKING???
But seriously what are some games that do this? It's my favorite bad design choice meme. I honestly do wonder what the hell they were thinking.
>>4152574
A lot of earlier arcade games were like that, back before devs knew people would empty their pockets to credit feed through a game.
>>4152580
It makes sense for arcades, but I'm thinking more home console games. Why be so hard on the player?
>first is a really good clone of Virtua Fighter with tons of secrets
>second is literally a best version of VF2, with high resolution graphic and 60 fps (suck it Saturn)
Why this series is dead?
Oh fuck yeah I love robots!
IIRC it was broken as shit while VF is an infinitely balanced, deep nuanced fighting game series.I had literally forgotten Zero Divide and never had any idea there was a Zero Divide 2

and a 3
So far I completed FF1, FF4, FF6 and FF7, the first and fourth games on the GBA, FF7 I played on hardware. What are the optimal or at least most convenient way to play the others?
If I play FF2 I plan to play the GBA release, people say you should patch it, but I dont know, I kinda like th SaGa games and FF2 was a bit of a precursor to that.
FF3 has ports on the PSP and DS, I was considering the DS relase, just because I already have the memory on my PSP full with other games.
FFV seems to be good enough on the GBA, dont know if the music took a hit on the porting like FF6, I could just emulate the famicom one with a translation patch.
FF 9 is on steam, that seems tempting enough if the battles get sped up a bit, but given the horrible FF6 android hackjob steam got I fear there might be some catch to that.
The thing is that the FF3 remakes are completely different games from the original due to the fact it can only show 3 enemies on screen at the same time. Due to this fact the battle system had to be totally redesigned. But other than that you ain't missing much, any version is fine. Just avoid the IOS port of FFV.
>>4152272
There are patches for GBA releases to restore the audio. FF7-10 are fine on Steam if you don't mind reading a few guides and installing mods, as most have community patches to restore / correct things that might be missing from those versions.
>>4152272
If you played FFI on GBA you didn't play FFI
FF2 is fine on GBA though
>it's a "western-made platformer with weird, vague, difficult to determine hitboxes for both characters and platforms, coupled with a graphical style that makes it hard to distinguish actual usable platforms from the background or general level decoration" episode
>It's a shit thread.
>>4151893
virgin aladdin > capcom aladdin
deal with it weeb
You mean, like, Aladdin, The Lion King, Earthworm Jim, Cold Shadow, Garfield Caught in the Act and Pitfall The Mayan Adventure?
West can't into hitboxes.
Where is my 30th Anniversary remake?
it's on PS2 and it SUCKS
>>4151759
Fine then. Where's my IV remake
>>4151770
Might as well remake Chrono Trigger.
Havent been here in a several months. Hows the raspberry pi? Is it still a meme?
It's great for what it is. It's no replacement for a proper PC of course, but it's a fun project.
Calling it a meme is a meme.
The input lag is real, that part isn't a meme and it's something the developers are at least working towards eliminating. Right now the Wii shits on it as far as getting close to a lagless emulation experience, especially on a CRT.
That being said, it's still incredibly useful for what it is. If you've got some games where pinpoint timing isn't essential it's as good as anything else, and it handles a number of systems the Wii can't even touch like the PS1 excellently. The big advantage is has is people are still interested in and developing for it so it has a chance to outmaneuver the rest in time.
>>4151467
>le input lag maymay
here-a we go
Should I play this
Leading experts prefer the third game for better overworld, music and less retarded dragon designs.
But it's a good game, yeah.
>>4151116
Yeah, one of my favorite games ever made. Great combat system, good story and caste, beautiful art, and a unique soundtrack. My only complaints is it can be too easy for the first 75% of the game and there is some fluff near the end but those shouldn't stop you from playing this great game.
>>4151119
>less retarded dragon designs
What? The dragons in IV are so much cooler then III, they're incredibly unique and not just "giant lizard with wings".
>"Ryu grits his teeth and gets back up"
Historians, I have need of your collective knowledge.
Why is it that the term "Guts" is so universal across video games? Breath of Fire is the oldest example I can think of, but surely some other game came out that used the term first, right? Where did the term Guts for a character getting back up originate and how did it get so widespread?
>>4151071
What other games use it? Maybe it's just me but only Earthbound is coming to mind.
Wait there's a mechanic that lets you mulligan in a JRPG?
>>4151073
One current example is Fate/ Grand Order's Guts ability where if you drop to 0 HP you instead stand up with a few HPs. Another one would be the later pokemon games.
Dragon Slayer II: Xanadu (1985)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcQpec98nCA
Faxanadu (1987)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HutD8ZXZucY
Though PCs were still much stronger overall than home consoles, home consoles were more specialized to handle gaming better. Xanadu looks downright primitive compared to Super Mario Bros and Faxanadu. Simple sprites, very few colors, very choppy scrolling. Faxanadu interestingly, uses a "room" system rather than smooth scrolling. Keep in mind also that the Famicom is still 1983 hardware.
It was not until 1990 when Commander Keen released for the PC that a side scroller could achieve scrolling as smooth as the Famicom.
>>4150962
>Compares a console game to a PC game that came out two years prior
>"Woah, it looks so primitive compared to the newer game!"
I look forward to you discovering that games on the SNES tended to have better graphics than games on the NES.
>>4150978
The Famicom is 1983 tech midn you. The comparison between Xanadu and Faxanadu is interesting since Faxanadu is the spin off of Xanadu.
If you want same year comparison, Super Mario Bros came out in 1985 as well. But that's so obvious I didn't bother mentioning it.

Post and rate your comfy /vr/ battlestations!
Here's mine. I rotate between NTSC and PAL Playstations and NTSC and PAL Super Nintendos.
I have that same DB poster.
>>4150936
Noice. Where are you from? The German/Scandinavian versions of the Dragon Ball manga are probably the best out there, and they come with posters. That's were I got mine at least.
>>4150945
Argentina, but I used to buy the DB manga imported from Spain, many years before they started editing the DB manga here.
I got that poster from the last issue of the Red series (for some reason, the editors released the manga in 2 "series": white and red. White is from the beginning until the end of Freeza saga, and red is from Androids/Cell saga to the end. The issues were american comic book-sized, and they had only 30 or so pages.
211 issues in total. I didn't own them all but a good portion. Eventually I started buying the tankoubon. Not really the best though, it's mirrored, and doesn't have the nice spine picture, but that's all I had access to back in the 90s.
Can this thing be emulated? What emulator, and how?
Would love to play full color Donkey Kong 94 with Daisy's digitized "HELP HELP!" but I don't own a SNES anymore
>owned a SGB
>sell it
>buy dk'94, but can only play it on my GB pocket
>sell it along with my GB collection some time after
>get a SGB again
Now I'm on the hunt for DK'94 again.
I was dumb when I was a kid, didn't sold all of my games, but many of them, regretted almost immediately.
I thought most emulators have a setting for it. At least to get the boarders to run.
Some Gameboy/GBC emulators also have an SGB mode. Off the top of my head I know BGB does.
I think you can also do it with bsnes but I don't know how.
