I just imported Super Famicom all the way from Japan, and it's fully working. Any games I should buy for it? I'm thinking of getting the Shin Megami Tensei games on here, along with the spin-offs.

Why are you not stocking up on sealed and rare videogames, when they will be worth millions. think of it. by the end of this century people who own mint condition sealed games will be incredibly rare.

The most weeb game would be some date sim game where the player has to know Japanese in order to play or enjoy.

I cant think of a really weeb game thats retro. I started getting into weeb stuff at a older age.

Why is it that some NES games look like shit with cringeworthy palette choices , while others look nearly 16-bit?

It takes skill and experience to get the most out of old systems. That's a big reason why I love retro hardware so much.

For instance, the NES could only display in an 8x8 pixel block 4 colors, and the first one was always transparent. If you look at Mega Man's face in that picture, you'll see it has white, black, blue, and light blue; 4 colors, but really 5 colors because the transparent color must be present. To achieve this, the devs simply layered a few sprites on top of each other. This seems obvious now, but when you sit down and try to come up with trickery to get the most out of your system, these kinds of things are innovations.
>>
-The system had a long lifespan, so advancements were made in terms of NES game technology (like new mappers... I'm not knowledgeable about NES development so hopefully someone else can go into detail) and those interested in bettering their craft studied the works of others and improved.

-Game artists had different levels of skill. Some were probably good artists in general, game or otherwise, others were not as skilled. Some knew how to take advantage of a limited palette by making good color choices within the limits and how to make clear graphics out of pixels, others had no clue.

-Some probably cared about their work, others probably put in the bare minimum effort to get a (mostly) playable game out the door as quickly as possible.

Why do pro-PC posters perpetrate the myth that PC games during the 5th generation were smooth while 3D games on consoles at the same time (Playstation, N64, Saturn) were laggy 20 FPS affairs?

Here is a benchmark showing Quake's framerate on contemporary 1996 hardware. The Pentium 200 was the latest, greatest and most expensive CPU available at the time, and it can't even crack 45 FPS. Most people weren't using something like this. Pentium 75 (Quake's minimum specification) and in particular, the Pentium 90 were far more common.

It's pretty clear that PC weren't signifcantly better off than consoles unless you had absolutely the best hardware. And even then you were nowhere near 60fps.

And this is running at 320x200 (lower than console resolution). With sound disabled.

It ran pretty terribly on every accelerator except Voodoo though.

And the graphics were somewhat downgraded.

Because you're comparing entirely software renderers done on the CPU? The 3dfx voodoo was released in 1996 and finally brought good 3D graphics to the PC platform. In Feb 1997 GLQuake was released which ran on voodoo.

2016 and this dumb fucking parrot shit is still going. Amazing.

Seen a few screenshots posted in another thread a few days ago and really want to do a replay now. Does war of the lions add anything? Are the mobile versions shit? Should I just stick with the original and emulator?

Wait? What? I thought war of the lions was just a new skin with maybe a few extras tossed in, not really a zelda clone.

Asking because I'm wondering if I should drop the $20 on it for mobile or just emulate the original.

Hi /vr/, I have been looking at component cable switches for my CRT setup and was wondering:
Without modding my consoles, what is the best quality output on each system?
Here's what I know so far
>Component: Wii, PS2, Xbox, DREAMCAST and GC
>S-Video: N64, PS1
But I don't know about the Saturn, Genesis, or SNES... Can you guys help? Not eurotrash so I can't use SCART without modding

>>
>PS1
>S-video
anything under 6th gen should be capable of RGB trough scart, so that's the best you can go for.
>>
>>3080757
Gamecube component cables are crazy expensive, just share the n64s s video cable.

NTSC scart>scarf switch>audio breakout>yuv transceiver>TV for the rest you're unsure of.. Model 1 or model 2 genni?
>>
>>3080767
Why don't you try actually reading his post.

>>3080757
>Not eurotrash so I can't use SCART without modding
SCART cables don't require any modding, just an adapter, but it wouldn't even matter unless you had a set capable of RGB, which you likely do not. (Just to clarify "SCART" is just a type of cable. The actual signal being transmitted is "RGB". The only sets you're going to come across that can process RGB are professional video production monitors.)

I'm pretty sure SNES and Saturn have S-video built in. With Genesis, it's Composite or RGB. It might be worth doing this >>3080776 and transcoding the RGB signal into Component, but the only component transcoder I ever found was trash. Introduced a ton of signal decay, looked like crap.

Hello gents, what is the best -->arcade game focused<-- portable emulator machine out there?

Bear in mind I'm going to want them stgs and such, and some of them might be modern.

I want something out of the ordinary, if I have to save for lots of time, I will.

>>

Honestly, a decent tablet with a bluetooth/usb controller. Nothing else will run SNES games or Mame satisfactorily if you're looking for arcade action.
>>
>>3080307
I like the way that thing looks, the only problem is the joystick would have to be unscrewed or something in order to close it which is shit functionality.

I'm one of the filthy people everyone hates who has always liked steampunk though. Not OP btw.
